  1. Medium Range and Long Range SAM. Did not really care too much about what exactly goes in the specific categories and where you would draw the line between those two. I think an SA-15 is an example for a MR SAM and an SA-11 and 10 are good examples for LR SAM. SR SAM is typically something that uses heatseaking missiles like an SA-13.
  2. Interested as well. Unfortunately the invitation link is not valid anymore. Could you please provide it once again?
  3. I think the key word is "during this process I apply more and more aft cyclic". You are not supposed to do that. Try to keep your aft cyclic constant and have a constant declarative attitude. By applying more and more aft cyclic you increase the deceleration. Compare it to a car: you can either apply some force on the brake pedal and keep it constant until you stop and maybe even release it slightly at very slow speeds to prevent the head nod... Or you can apply more and more force on the pedal the slower you go. What will happen in the latter case? The declaration is getting stronger the slower you go. Generally speaking your aerodynamics change once you drop below approx 30 kts. and all sorts of things happen. Luckily the transverse flow is not simulated, because that would mean a pretty noticeable tendency to drift to the right (additional to the simulated translating tendency to the right). I was told that your perceived speed looking out of your side window should be as fast as a brisk walk all the way through your approach. I have to admit that it is quite hard to estimate that without using VR though This procedure here describes perfectly how you would learn it in a flight school: /index.php?/topic/296437-AH-64D-Flight-School-(w/-Track-Files)#entry4941039
  4. What I am doing for ages now and what works pretty ok is: Create a copy of your default.lua file and rename it to the specific name of your hardware. Sounds crazy, but it works. An example of all sorts of possible names can be found in the KA50 input folder if you own the module. Basically for the Thrustmaster Warthog you will have to change the name to: Throttle - HOTAS Warthog.lua DCS then recognizes the specific file name in the controls setup. That way your changes will stay after an update, because this file will not get overwritten.
  5. Thanks horus, it worked perfectly that way. Unfortunately we can't bind the LRFD button as it is not a clickable switch in the cockpit. But now I am finally able to see something on the TADS video feed in the back.
  6. I tried it and it didn't work. Basically you would have to copy the corresponding lines from the cpg to the pilot input lua file. I copied the FLIR/TV switches, the FOV 4-way hat and the LRFD trigger. Unfortunately it didn't work that way. So we will have to work for George becoming slightly more competent
  7. I don't have any stick time in the apache, but some hours in another helicopter and from my experience helos do not necessarily crab. That is primarily depending on the wind conditions. With calm winds our ground track indicator (kind of a 2D FPV) was ALWAYS aligned with the heading bug which is basically the AC nose. Also very noticeable on an approach where you keep the AC aerodynamically in trim above 50 ft AGL and align with the rwy direction below 50ft. In no wind situation you end up being aligned with the runwayin aerodynamic trim. With a 20 kt crosswind (or higher) you might end with a huge difference between those two. I had approaches with roughly 30 degrees differece between aerodynamic trim and rwy alignment... DCS does not simulate all the effects of helicopter aerodynamics and that might be a reason why it seems a bit off (I am looking at you, transverse flow effect) TLDR: In general: Zero wind: aerodynamic trim and nose-tail trim should be roughly the same, may vary slightly at higher speeds, but that depends on the specific AC High crosswind: Deviations between those two may be rather large left or right, depending on the wind direction
  8. There is no such thing as a "correct time frame" for DCS aircraft. The range goes from WW2 planes over Korea, Cold War up to relatively modern planes. There are several types in each category and in my opinion by no means the F18 is more capable than a F16 for example. They both have their strengths in similar but different areas. And by the way the most modern Plane in DCS is the JF17... Maybe you can try the cold war server or ddcs cold war. It sounds like you would probably enjoy it there a bit more. I for my part love all the tools you have at your disposal. The DL Contacts in the JHMCS are nice but the system has its limits. It displays only up to 7 contacts simultaneously and by default prioritizes the friendly contacts over hostile ones. Additionally it is lacking in precision due to the DL update rate... I love the Hornet as it is and it is by no means an "OP" plane not fitting in the DCS eco system.
  9. It would probably be helpful if you mention which version of liberation you are using.
  10. Make sure that ALL hostile ground units guarding the corresponding base are dead. Only then your forces will automatically capture the base within the turn. If you have CA you can also additionally command a unit directly to the center of the base in order to make sure your units will capture it.
  11. It is also possible that the right parking spot size does not exist on the corresponding airfield. I had the problem once with Fujairah. This airfield has only parking spots labeled as "small" and by that planes like the A10 are not able to start from this airfield. You might want to set the starttype to "Runway" and see if it solves the problem
  12. I had a similar problem once. I guess it is related to the hangar size. If the F-14 are set to starttype "warm" they start with extended wings. Their extended wingspan is larger than the hangar width. Unfortunately you can't change the start type of AI aircraft. You could change the starting position manually in the ME prior to starting the mission. If you want to create client controlled F-14 you can set the starttype to "Runway" or "cold" as a workaround.
  13. Soon a year since the last HB statement for this topic... Has a realignment or fix option for Jester been discussed? Is it something worth waiting for?
  14. AI usually does a horrible job using fuel economically. I guess your wingman was an F-18? In the F-18 you have to set your Bingo Fuel margin manually, otherwise it will stay set to 0. It seems that the AI is not setting a Bingo Fuel and thus they fly until their fuel level reaches 0, call out bingo and then have to punch out immediately. The biggest problem is that they are trying to catch up with you in full Afterburner, so helping them by flying slow until they are in formation usually helps a bit. Had the same experience with F-18 wingmen several times in a variety of different missions. Not a liberation problem as far as I can tell.
  15. Hey guys, the mission is unavailable right now. Is there a possibility, that it gets reuploaded by the OP or by anyone else? Thanks in advance
  16. Try deleting old save files in your saved games\dcs(.openbeta) directory. As far as I remember, the path to the DCS saved games was hard-coded in older versions... RC4 seems quite old. I would recommend the current RC9. It has a lot improvements compared to older releases, for example defining custom "saved games\dcs" locations.
  17. Make sure that the tracking window is focused in the first place. Then Alt+F4 close the window. Just make sure not to click on "accept results"
  18. Sure. Interesting marketing stuff... Like the missile ranges you can get from Wikipedia. I can just recommend you to look up "ILA 2018 F-35 Radar"... In short: No high intensity battlefield and nothing fancy... A German passive radar was able to track the leaving F-35. For every system sooner or later a counter system will be developed.
  19. Very much appreciated. I have some commits ready for your Dev build (some minor stuff that created errors when you want to proceed to the next turn). I have played the mission from the current Dev build with some friends and it seems that in the night missions you will be started in the air even if you select "Runway" in the settings. Otherwise they run fine. A few suggestions though: - The amount of airplanes you have to fight of in the first rounds is huge. It may be possible to reduce the ai start resources? - I know you do not like the idea of ground starting ai airplanes, but at least for the enemy it would be essential in my opinion. There were situations where we cleared the sky and a few seconds later some enemy migs spawned right on our 6 and shot us down. The problem with stuck ai during taxing can be handled with some Moose scripts. - Adding Moose I think mainly about the following functions : *Airboss script for the carriers *Intercept mission that are triggered when airplanes get close to an airfield *Handling ATC and ground traffic (in order to respawn stuck airplanes) *Repairing destroyed Sam sites, factory and base defenses via CTLD and some Moose magic *Some Warehouse and logistic functions (described as an additional point) *Easily spawning airplanes and groups via Moose - Further down the road I would absolutely love to see the possibility to buy loadouts and fuel. They would be delivered by supply planes during the next mission and could be intercepted I would like to help where I can, even if my time at my computer is very limited (family and real life stuff).
  20. I would go the other way and only edit the unit type in the ME. You have to be careful with the static units on the deck though. You have to first unlink them from the old carrier, then switch the carrier unit type and link all the statics to the new carrier. It is quite easy to do all within 5-10 minutes. I have done this for the DCE type missions (also Moose based and way more complex than this mission) and it worked pretty well. Usually all scripts are tied to unit or group names and less to specific unit types. As long as you don't touch names, you should be fine.
  21. Dear Kate, I have a suggestion regarding the Mission preparation and set up cards: Would it be an option to store those settings in an xml file (or any other format that is easy to read/edit) for example under the user files? They could be easily read inside the plane by pressing a "load" button. I think that is the way the future Kiowa module will handle the files. This would have huge benefits: * You would create a compatibility for external mission planning tools like "combat flight" * You could edit the mission card while still being in a mission and switch tasks without having to reconnect * It would be easy to share reccon results between different flights without having to reconnect/restart the mission * A benefit for the team: This is a low hanging fruit. By enabling this option, your team can take some time developing a polished solution within DCS, while we can already take advantage of this functionality using external tools. Win-Win... Less pressure or more time to develop more important stuff for your team. Great opportunity and a huge variety of options for the user as he will get this feature way earlier than planned and would allow great interoperability with different modules. This could set a standard for all data cartridge equipped aircraft. Thank you for your effort Best regards
  22. It was the first Airbase you get in the Emirates campaign. I think Farujah Intl.
  23. That is ceverd by the tutorial. Had the same problem the first time. You have to set your own flights start time to T +0 in order to start directly. Btw: I have tried the Persian gulf (emirates) campaign and noticed, that the option "start from Runway" creates an airstart instead. Can anyone confirm this?
  24. It has been discussed a ton of times here and there in defferent threads. This topic pops up every few months. As per some Hornet pilots this line should NOT obstruct anything if no warning or advisery message is present. If I am not totally wrong it was also mentioned somewhere in the Fighter Pilot Podcast Q&A (but I am not sure on this one, cause I am working with my faulty memory here)... There are some mods out there that do not even break the IC that can be used for this purpose.
  25. I will have to check, but I think I have installed it in mid April. My version number is v20. 31-22
