  1. That was my first reaction, too. It's an excellent video in terms of selling the scope of DCS: World, but it's extremely misleading to frame it as the "Official FC3 Trailer". I would be very disappointed as a consumer if I bought FC3 based on that video and discovered that the A-10C, Ka-50, Huey and CA vehicles and cockpits were actually not part of the deal.

Wess24m posted it in the Huey section. I think it's now in the "Peter Pilot" tutorial sub-forum.
  3. Sign me up. I'm definitely very appreciative of the Friday updates and would love to see them continue. I'd also argue that the impassioned discussions in the other thread are very valuable. They're generally being conducted in a mature fashion and there's value in ED hearing the feedback early in the process as opposed to a year or two into development. Regardless, the updates are hugely appreciated (at least by me). Long may they continue.
  4. What did you base this assumption on? ED never promised to deliver AFM after the beta, so why did you buy it with that expectation? In fairness, they are now adding the AFM after the beta. It's just that those that are interested will have to pay some as-yet-unspecified fee to support that effort. Ultimately it's a value proposition: Do you feel that the Su-27 and F-15 be meaningfully improved by the addition of AFM? If YES - Go to next stage If NO - Don't buy [*]Is the improvement worth X dollars (where X is yet to be defined)? If YES - Buy If NO - Don't buy
  5. ...because the 35 page thread about this is clearly not enough.
  6. Heh! Meanwhile, all of the console developers saying "maybe we should be making mobile games, since mobile games seems to be where it's at these days". ;)
  7. I'm perfectly happy to pay for the ongoing, gradual evolution of existing aircraft as long as the price is reasonable.
  8. That's an excellent clarification. Thanks, Cichlidfan.
  9. I was playing with this last night and had the same issue. What I eventually discovered is that you need to turn the LOOP dial away from its central point (left or right, doesn't seem to matter) in order to hear the morse code. However, the ADF needle will NOT track the NDB when the dial is set away from the central position. Having made this discovery, I did a long cross-country flight where I was alternating between having the LOOP dial away from centre in order to correctly identify the station and then switching back to centre to actually track the NDB. These are just my discoveries from experimenting, though. I have no way of explaining why what I've discovered works the way it does. :)
  10. The Saturation options allow you to adjust how far the IN GAME controls can move. This gives your REAL controller more resolution and precision. By adjusting the Saturation, you're effectively trading off your range of movement in order to gain more precision. This, of course, means that you CANNOT reach the edges of the Huey's flight envelope because your REAL controller can no longer deliver as great a range of input as the IN GAME controller. This isn't a much of a problem, though, as you're not flying a fighter and will rarely need the full range of movement. You'll want to adjust the Y Saturation Axis for your pitch and roll axes. I've got mine set to 75 and it feels pretty good to me.
  11. No, this is incorrect. HOLDING K will show the keyboard for as long as you hold the key. PRESSING Shift+K will toggle it on or off unti you press SHIFT+K again.
  12. I disagree. It's a really useful feature and you can rationalise it away as "The co-pilot's been paying attention to our location and updates me when I check in with him". It's not like you have to press the update key... In terms of wishlist items, I'm gonna go with: Cockpit glass. It currently looks like Bell forgot to install the canopy. It'd be nice to get a sense of reflection and sun glare on the surface. Female Co-Pilot. Might as well have something pretty to look at on those long cross-country flights. :)
  13. Weird. Haven't had this problem with previous versions. Hmm...
  14. Hey guys, I have a few of a noob questions about translating my tracks into Youtube-friendly formats and wondered if anyone here could help. Short version - I'm looking to figure out how best to encode the tracks and find the best balance between resolution and file size. I did a short 7 minute flight and encoded it to uncompressed AVI at the original resolution of 1920 x1200 at 75% quality and 25 fps, but it generated a 68Gb AVI. Obviously not what I need. :D I tried using the PNG option, but ended up with 10,000+ image files (which I really should have anticipated. Finally, I tried the Theora + Vorbis encoding, but it was taking ~2 seconds per frame which would have taken several days to complete. All of that being said, could anyone step me through the simplest way to create a reasonable sized AVI for uploading? Thanks in advance!
  15. It seems as though the ability to Alt+Tab out of the sim is broken in 1.2.4. It's possible to Alt+Tab out of the UI menus, but not once you're in the sim. When I attempt to do so, I can see the desired program flickering on the Taskbar, but the DCS simulation always retains focus. This is a fairly significant annoyance for me since I often like to "tab out" so that I can adjust music, check forums or tweak controllers.
  16. Hi Brad, You should take a look at in the Third Party/ Belsimtek/ DCS Huey forum. There are already LOTS of interesting discussions about control sensitivity in there. http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=263
  17. And me, too. Thanks Matt!
  18. Actually, this seems to be an issue that affects all modules. I had the same problem while flying the Su-27 in FC3. Could someone please move this to the DCS: World Bugs and Problems forum, please? Thanks!
  19. How do you go about acknowledging the Master Caution light? It always comes on during my startup procedure, but I can't find a click zone or keyboard shortcut to acknowledge the warning.
  20. It appears that the ability to Alt+Tab is broken. This is a bit of a problem for me because I like to listen to music via iTunes or Media Player while I'm flying and often need to jump out of the sim to tweak the volume. A fix for this would be really appreciated.
  21. It's worth noting that the excellence of DCS: Huey means that third party doesn't necessarily equal lower quality.
  22. I must confess that I'm a little disappointed that the F-15C is likely to arrive ahead of F/A-18C. I can see the logic since there are way more implementation challenges to handle with the Hornet (e.g. ground attack, carrier ops), but the F-15C doesn't really interest me. It's just too limited in its role. Having said that, I'll definitely be buying it on day one, anyway. DCS:Anything is always going to be a Day One purchase for me. :D Perversely, I do still like the idea of the Su-27 even though it suffers many of the same limitations as the F-15C (I think). Does the Su-27 actually have ground attack capabilities and will they be reflected in the DCS version? Beyond that, I wonder if the goal is to release the two aircraft simultaneously? It would seem to make logical sense, but I don't know if the production constraints and financial requirements of a small developer preclude this approach. All very exciting, though, anyway.
  23. Go into Options -> Controls -> UH-1 (Sim) -> Axes and use the Axis Tune option on each of your cyclic axes. This allows you to adjust the response curves and or saturation for each axis. Response curves are often adjusted to REDUCE stick sensitivity around the centre, but bear in mind that this means you'll get INCREASED sensitivity as you move the stick towards its extremes. Saturation allows you to reduce the amount of input when the stick is at its maximum deflection. This gives your stick greater precision, but it means that you'll be unable to fly the Huey to the edges of its envelope. This isn't a problem in most situations, but trading maximum stick travel for precision seems like a questionable trade off.
  24. Unless, of course, there's an unforeseen bug with the message that requires an additional QA pass, pushing the update back to next week... Sorry. Couldn't resist. :D
  25. Yes, it’s a feature. It’s existed in the sim since DCS Black Shark. My understanding (and I’m not a real pilot) is that the trim button in a real helicopter simply sets the current stick position as the new centre. In practical terms, this just removes the requirement for the pilot to keep pressure on the stick in order to hold it in the desired position. When it comes to the sim, this functionality works fine for a force-feedback (FFB) stick where pressing the trim button can cancel out all of the stick’s resistance. It’s less useful for a “normal” stick, because pressing the trim button obviously doesn’t release the mechanical forces (i.e. springs) that are trying to re-centre the stick. This means that players with a normal stick need to re-centre their stick after hitting the trim button in order to get the desired effect (i.e. reducing the pressure required to hold the stick in the desired position). The problem with this approach is that it used to result in a “bump” where the movement of the stick back to centre was registered as a desired controller input - resulting in momentary undesired movement of the helicopter. The way that Eagle worked around this was by adding the “Central Trimmer Mode”. This locks out all controller inputs until the stick has been centred. This allows smooth, bump-free trimming for those of us with non-FFB sticks. However, it does require that every use of trim button be followed immediately by returning the stick to the central position. Hope this helps a little.
