  1. Me too. Ilya/Luthier seems to be almost impossibly scattershot and unreliable. For someone who's already tainted by questionable credibility, he's not exactly helping his case.

  3. Maybe. Maybe not. The problem is that many people are extremely passionate about this particular hobby. When promises are seen to be made (or, at least, expectations are set), it generates an understandable level of excitement. When those promises or expectations are not subsequently met, it generates disappointment. You can't really have one without the other. I suspect that the developers like it when people are excited and enthusiastic about their products and potential announcements and updates. Setting expectations about a cadence of updates, however, is walking dangerous ground as you're feeding your fans' emotional investment. All in all, I would say the current levels of disappointment in this thread are very mild and well-mannered compared to what they could be. People seem amused rather than angry. No harm, no foul.

  5. For what it's worth, I use different techniques for the Huey versus the Black Shark: HUEY - I just MANEUVER and then TRIM. BLACK SHARK - I HOLD TRIM then MANEUVER and then RELEASE TRIM The reason for the difference is the Black Shark's auto-stabilization modes. If you DON'T hold the trimmer before maneuvering, you'll find the helicopter fighting you a lot. Holding the trimmer down temporarily disables the auto-stabilization which gives you full control of the helicopter. This is obviously not a problem with the Huey since it doesn't have any auto-stabilization. It took me a while to figure out flying the Shark, but once I got it I found it incredibly easy to control. The Huey, however, remains a massive challenge. I've played around with the Mi-8 and really like it, but I've put it on hold until it's a little further along in terms of its implementation.
  6. I suspect that everyone's going to give you a different answer, but my take is: 1. I don't use any curves at all. (TM Warthog - same as you). 2. You DO need to move your joystick back to center pretty quickly, but you also need to ensure that you're using "Central Trimmer Position Mode" in the Special -> UH-1H part of the option menu. Deselecting this is primarily useful for those people that have Force Feedback sticks. Again, you'll probably find a range of different opinions as this thread expands, but the above is my advice. The Huey is a tricky bird to master, but you'll get there with time and perseverance. Good luck with it! :thumbup:

  9. Then there is no such thing as a "real sim" in the entire world. That's a probably a good thing, though, as it means we can finally stop all of the tiresome, futile and ultimately pointless arguments about "arcade" versus "sim-lite" versus "sim", right? Right? Oh, well. I can dream. :joystick:

  12. The whole point of the DCS series is that the aircraft are simulated in as much detail as is humanly possible. For what it's worth, the DCS: Ka-50 is probably my favourite simulated aircraft of all time (and I've playing flight sims right from the earliest days).   13. I have the same feeling. I'm not out to be a negative whiner, but I've been really underwhelmed by everything I've seen of Edge to date. I'm really interested to get my hands on it and see it in action, though. Maybe it'll surprise me. :)
  14. I can see how this affects the multiplayer community, but I have no problem with such gifts if they're single player only.
  15. You'll get it when DCS: WWII is released unless you chose an option where the DCS: World version was explicitly called out as an extra.

  17. I'd love to see a DCS-level Tempest at some point, but I'm more than happy with the current plane set for the time being.
  18. Agreed on this. The new matrix is a really excellent addition to the Kickstarter and has got me strongly considering significantly increasingly my pledge. Definitely a really good step in the right direction, albeit a little late in the day.
  19. The Fw-190 is due before the DCS:F/A-18, but the Su-27 and F-15 AFMs should be out before both of them. I think that's the current running order, anyway.

  22. I tend to agree. As it stands I see several obstacles, most of which are pretty much insurmountable at this stage: 1. There have been a few high profile Kickstarter debacles in the news recently which may have shaken people's confidence in this whole business model: Clang! Many people in the community still feel burnt by the Cliffs of Dover experience. The rights, wrongs and details of what actually occurred are unimportant compared to people's individual perceptions of what happened. Some people (like myself) are willing to give you another shot. Many others are not. This may be unfair and frustrating, but it's an unavoidable truth. 3. Many people that are on the fence (especially those that are distrustful after the issues around Cliffs of Dover) aren't going to commit until they see something tangible that they can buy into. As it stands, you have little more than words and good intentions to offer. This isn't going to be enough to move those that are sitting on the fence. 4. The frequent changes of focus (first you were going for a brand new audience, then you shifted to the hardcore), the increasingly complex/confusing pledge rewards, the indecisiveness over stretch goals, the rather amateurish videos and the general lack of communication with the community make the whole endeavour seem rather unprofessional and poorly thought out. I don't mean any of this to sound nasty or personal (I really, really don't), but it's very pertinent to the issue at hand. Whatever the rights and wrongs of it, there are concerns around your ability to deliver what you promise and the execution of the Kickstarter to date has arguably done more to reinforce those worries than address them. I don't see these "trust issues" as something that can easily be addressed in the near future. Your best bet from my perspective is to focus on "right sizing" the project and then executing on it to a very high degree of quality. If you can do this in addition to having a coherent, workable long term financial strategy, you'll begin to win the doubters back and make money in the process. I would absolutely start by giving just ONE free aircraft with the initial launch of DCS: WII. You're looking to entice people into your world, not give the whole thing away for free. Regardless - best of luck with the endeavour. I really hope you can make it work in terms of both quality and revenue. :thumbup:
  23. The thing I find weird about that is that Luthier has also stated that the Kickstarter funding is just to cover an extended Beta period and polishing. If that's actually true (and I assume it must be since $100k is a very small sum in games development), then why start the Kickstarter so early? I'm not suggesting that there's anything sinister about it - it just doesn't seem to line up with the statement.
