  1. They define whether or not you can see the ground target(s) you're tasked with attacking. They allow you (or your enemy) to escape from a dogfight, or turn a disadvantageous position to their example. They impact various aircraft sensors. They affect your ability to keep formation with your flight. They dictate your waypoint routing to and from the target. They dictate your available altitude to and from the target. They dictate whether certain aircraft or helicopters can even take off. I'm sure there are many other tactical implications, too, but those are the ones that spring immediately to mind.
  2. There seems to be an issue with the creation of Strike missions that results in all of the target waypoints being at 0 feet/meters (versus at ground level). This is a problem when slaving the Hornet TGP to the TGT if the target is above sea level (as most are). It's easy enough to fix in the Hornet by using the UFC to enter the correct elevation for each waypoint. However, I've noticed that the allied AI flights seem to have problems hitting their assigned targets, and I'm not sure if this is a symptom of the same issue. This has probably already been noted as an issue somewhere in this thread, but I couldn't find it after running a search. Apologies if this is known and redundant.
  3. I'm about 7 missions into the "Invasion from Turkey" campaign, flying the Hornet off the Roosevelt, and I'm absolutely LOVING Liberation. It makes such an incredible difference to see a map that's unpredictable and full of life, with multiple flights of aircraft on both sides going about their respective objectives. It's also great to know (and feel) that every single opposition plane, SAM site, or unit that you take out is one less thing for them to throw at you in your future missions. It brings the maps to life in a way that DCS has needed for so, so long. Way more engaging and immersive than even the very best of the handcrafted campaigns. It takes me right back to the good old days of EF2000, Total Air War, and Falcon 4.0, and makes me genuinely excited about DCS's future. Amazing work, Khopa, and hugely appreciated. :thumbup:
  4. The Syria map is a work of art. Just flew my first mission from the DCS Liberation "Invasion from Turkey" campaign, and it was amazing. The detail at Incirlik airbase is a brand new standard for DCS, and the uneven taxiways and runways add way more realism and immersion than I'd ever have guessed. Taking off over the city and then turning East over the bay and over the mountains into Syria was just stunning. Great work, and massively appreciated. :thumbup:

  6. Yeah, I'm having the same issue, unfortunately. It's just about playable for me, but only just. Seems like there's a LOT going on in the missions, and DCS isn't well optimised for these kinds of massive battles. That said, what I have seen of Liberation so far is HUGELY impressive. Definitely the most immersive and enjoyable DCS campaign I've ever experienced. I cannot wait for ED to do a slick, optimised dynamic campaign. Huge kudos and thanks to the creators of Liberation in the meantime, though. :thumbup:
  7. F12 will always allow you to exit the Radio Menu. I've mapped it to a toggle switch on my Warthog so that I can instantly switch from open (RAlt+\) to closed (F12). I know that doesn't solve your issue, but it's a workaround that works really well (for me).

  9. Is there a revision list for the June 5th update to the Hornet guide? It appears to have increased from 311 pages to 356 since I last grabbed a version. I've looked through this thread a couple of times all the way back to early May, but I can only see the references to the updates of the Mirage and Tomcat guides, and the release of the F-16 and P-47 guides. Apologies I'm being dense/blind, and missing something really obvious. Thanks, as ever, for the amazing guides, and the immense volumes of research and work they so clearly involve. :thumbup:

  11. I was trying to use the Missile in Zone condition to detect an Igla being fired in a specific area. When I scrolled through the drop-down list of missile types, however, I couldn't find the Igla. I tried looking for Igla, Igla-S, 9K38, and SA-24 Grinch, but I couldn't see it anywhere. Is it missing from the list of missiles, or am I looking for the wrong thing?
  12. I'd love to see (hear) this is DCS, too. It would be a really nice expansion to the overall immersion. In a perfect world, ED wouldn't even necessarily need to organise and pay for the VO and recordings. If they provided the code hooks, we could crowdsource the actual VO from the DCS community.
  13. Hey guys, I'd like to start getting a more authentic flavour into the radio comms in my missions. Does anyone have any links to good resources or videos that give a good sense of how military pilots communicate with ATC (and within their flight) during taxi, takeoff and recovery? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey guys, I was having some trouble getting the AI to employ SLAMS effectively, so I created a super-simple mission - 1 F/A-18 with a pair of SLAMS versus an SA-10 site that's set to the GREEN state (i.e. not ready). The Hornet fires both SLAMS at the target group (using the SEAD tasking and the Attack Group action), which is great. Unfortunately, it then decides to follow up with multiple strafing attacks with the cannon, which is decidedly less great. :( I've tried setting the Attack Group parameters to: WPN: -ASM REL QTY: All MAX ATTACK QTY: 1 (with the Check Box ticked) Nothing seems to work, though. The AI always follows in after the SLAMS and goes gunzo against the SAM site. :doh: Any ideas on how to get the AI to stick to guided missile attacks, or is this a legitimate bug?
