It's too bad they messed up some useful controls and made things more cumbersome. All could be fixed if they just allowed us to assign functions as we need to. That way those who want the controls to be exactly as they are IRL could have them, and those who are ok with some compromises which make the sim more workable could have theirs. Even though they removed the simple method to select TGP to Steerpoint, I noticed that you can China Hat Aft Short (LSS Toggle) then China Hat Aft Long to get TGP to Steerpoint in addition to the other methods mentioned.

Tried Kutaisi and Senaki and they both work now.

Also, if you switch to Alt F1 view the HUD becomes even more dim and washed out no matter if you increased intensity to maximum in the cockpit.

Thanks, it would have taken me forever to realize that.

ILS is still broken. Tried several airfields and even tried the ILS training mission. Nothing works. Yes, ILS power is on, volume turned up, correct freq entered (how many years will it take them to fix the freq info on the CDU Divert page?), ILS mode selected, correct course set, within range, etc.

Understood, but you still have to save the file after you've pasted and it tells me I'm not allowed to save.

Guide to transfer keybinds from old A-10
dporter22 replied to TacticalError's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
It's great that they try to make this sim realistic, and that's what we generally want, but given that it's a sim there are tradeoffs that should be made to compensate for the fact that we're not sitting in a cockpit and therefore have limited interaction options. It takes a quarter second for a real A-10 pilot to reach up and boresight the TGP with an OSB without disrupting whatever he's doing. But we now have to stop what we're doing, pan down to the cockpit, grab the mouse, click on the Standby OSB, then click back, then get back to what we were doing. That's cumbersome, impacts situational awareness, takes your eyes off the fight, detracts from the immersion of the sim, and isn't user friendly. So in the previous A-10 they smartly mapped an often-used function to a simple switch movement on the HOTAS. Simple, easy, and useful. I understand that the devs can't make everything perfect for every user, that's why allowing the user to map the controls as they need to depending on their setup would be very beneficial. For example, my throttle does not have a boat switch so I have to assign boat switch functions to other switches, but I can't assign the China Hat to other functions, and I can't assign a long press to anything. Or why am I able to assign autopilot functions to one of my 4-way throttle switches, but I can't assign functions to the 4-way DMS switch on the stick? If they're not going to allow us to assign the boresight function to the China Hat, why not at least allow us to assign it to a keystroke? Not as good as the China Hat, but much simpler and faster than the current workarounds. -

That's too bad. I guess I just never realized you could assign functions to some HOTAS switches but not others. For example, I changed the functions of my CMS switch and Boat switch just fine, but it won't let me do anything with the China Hat, or TMS/DMS, etc. If they won't let users map important HOTAS functions, it would be nice if they at least allowed you to map them to a keystroke as a secondary method. -

Sorry, very dumb question which is probably covered somewhere that I can't find: How do I assign functions to HOTAS controls if the function is not listed in the control list? I just installed the A-10C II and it changed several HOTAS functions which I want to change back to how they are with my original A-10. For example, CHINA HAT AFT SHORT boresights the TGP on the original and it's LSS TOGGLE on the A-10C II. How do I make CHINA HAT AFT SHORT boresight the TGP on the A-10CII when all I can do in Adjust Controls is assign CHINA HAT AFT to a switch on my throttle and there is no Boresight TGP operation to assign? Then, of course, how do I assign LSS TOGGLE back to DMS RIGHT LONG? Etc., etc. And where's Boresight TGP on the A-10C II anyway? I don't see it on the new HOTAS Commands references. -

Regarding the manual, there are a lot of spelling/punctuation/grammar errors in the updated pages (and there are still errors in the original manual after all these years). As in the orginal manual, the additional errors now in the updated version are unprofessional and can make it confusing to learn the systems and employ them properly. The reader can generally figure out what to do despite the errors, but for a commercial product that they are charging up to $80 for the manual should have been proofread before release. I'm happy to volunteer.

There's no question that the DCS A-10 HUD washes out more than the real HUD. This video and several others prove it. Also notice that the real A-10 pulls over 4g just fine and without going uncontrollable, unlike the DCS A-10. But that issue has already been beaten to death in other threads. Some posts say the new flight model gives a little more g, some posts say there's no change. Either way there's still not the correct amount of engine thrust though.

So unfortunately it appears that they didn't add the bomb release sound to the new release.

This mission is impossible. It fails me for a different reason every time no matter what I do. Either Chevy gets hit, or it says I exited without permission even though Uzi gave permission, or this time it says I entered the gunship altitude block but it never told me the gunship had an altitude block or how to stay out of it, and it's never failed me for that reason any other time even though I didn't do anything different.

How to map cockpit snap views?
dporter22 replied to dporter22's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I was just trying to map the left and right panel snap views to the forward and aft trim button positions, but it can't be done since those positions are already mapped. -
How to map cockpit snap views?
dporter22 replied to dporter22's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Disregard. Can't be done. -
Can someone explain how to map panel snap views to my stick? I have view commands (left/right/up/down) mapped to my trim switch to pan around the cockpit. When I press Rt Ctrl Num0 to activate cockpit panel view, moving the the trim switch selects the left MFD, right MFD, an upward view above the canopy, or part of the right panel by default. Pressing Lt Win and any of the numpad keys shows a snap view of various panels, but the view disappears when I release the keys. How do I map Lt Win Num3 (right panel view) to pressing aft on the trim switch, or Lt Win Num1 (left panel view) to pressing forward instead of the views it currently selects which aren't useful? Also, when I activate cockpit panel view and use my trim switch, whichever view is selected stays on that view. If nobody knows how to change the default panel views mapped to the trim switch, at least how do I get the panel views to stay rather than reverting to the normal cockpit view once I release the keys? In summary, right now if I press Rt Ctrl Num0, then left trim switch, it brings up a fullscreen view of my left MFD and stays there, same with the right trim switch which brings up the right MFD and stays there. How do I get the right panel view to show up and stay there when I press aft trim switch, and the left panel view to show up and stay there when I press forward trim switch?

You say there are improvements all over the aircraft, and that's what I was asking about. Are there any comparison pics to see what's been done? I don't see any direct comparisons on youtube. $10 isn't a big deal, and it's great that they put effort into the Hog, but if someone doesn't need the new weapons, and doesn't have a VR setup in order to use the HMCS effectively, and if all the cockpit and flight model improvements have already been incorporated into the previous A-10C, and if the A-10C II may or may not work with current DLC, and if they won't say when it will work on the stable version, and if you have to remap your HOTAS, then the only feature that might be worthwhile for that person would be if the exterior looked amazingly better. If they just added some bumps and removed a pod it doesn't seem like much. If there actually is an extensively improved model, I'd like to see the difference. That's all I was asking.
-
Yes, the additional systems are nice. So just some more details on the nose? You'd think "Updated and improved external model" would be more extensive.
-
Does anyone have some A-10C vs A-10C II external model comparison pictures? I'd just like to see how much of a difference there is (i.e., worth upgrading, or can you barely tell what's changed?). It's difficult to compare just by watching the youtube videos.

So the fire missions don't sanitize the area. I have to direct both fire missions and also clear the area myself? Where is the pilot located?
-
Could you explain what's supposed to happen regarding Chevy? Like I said, both targets are destroyed, I get the "Member down" call, both fire missions are successful, then Uzi tells me to RTB. When is Chevy supposed to be protected and is there a call or tasking for it?
-
I destroyed both targets and completed both fire missions successfully. Nothing was ever said about Chevy and there were no other taskings. On the ground Uzi said everything was successful, then said I didn't protect Chevy and the mission was a failure. Very frustrating.
-
So it finally let me exit the area. I landed, Uzi said great job on everything and I thought I was about to finish the campaign, then he failed me for not protecting Chevy. I never saw a tasking regarding Chevy and neither Uzi nor Chevy ever requested assistance.
