AN/ALQ-131 effectiveness agains A2A missiles
The_Tau replied to SuperKermit's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
imo vs other fighters, especially in cold war fox 1 scenario, Jammer is pointless as max range of those early/mid fox 1s are well within jammer burnthrough range. Also some Fox1s have home on jam capability and you make yourself more vulnerable, turning enemy fox1s into silent fox3s I mostly use jammer vs SAMs or very long range modern missile shots. But if they use very long range missiles then you are already outclassed anyway in F4- 1 reply

Try to get a lock first before you fire, way more reliable

Awesome for toss bombing

Jester is just radar interface for the pilot. You still have to "babysit" Jester and tell where to look, setting (telling Jester to set) radar azimuth and elevations, like you would with F-18/16 radars 1 man aircraft

F-14A/B has sometimes a locked, wired up ACM when starting mid air.

How to accelerate to Mach 2? Is there a recommand method?
The_Tau replied to YATEIFEI's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Why would the game crash on empty mission? Anyway, thanks for the numbers, its very interesting. But yeah, i think there is something wrong with F15C drag model, especially when you take missiles on stations 1,3 and 9, 11 Anyway, in combat, I would say acceleration is way more important. With Rutkowski profile, F-14B in dive can accelerate to 1.2 mach - over the transonic drag, in 30s. And with F110s it can easily climb to 40k with just dry power with 4/2/2 loadout -
Yep, each Uzi are a different flight if its mission called ReforgerII_m5_chlorine, so Fighter to fighter will not work between them One way to spot in game then is to watch unit callsigns If callsigns are Uzi 2-1, Uzi 4-1, Uzi 5-1, where all of them end on "1" then it means that every plane is seperate flight Same flight airframes have callsign with last number going from 1 to 4 Uzi 5 -1, Uzi 5-2, Uzi 5-3, Uzi 5-4

well my screenshot literally shows what datalink option I had in the middle of the Jester wheel. And I could only see wingman, not any other targets and I know they were there, its my wingman nr 2 as I made them hold position so its easier to see its him and not me So yes I am sure its Fighter 2 Fighter datalink with my AI wingman Maybe tell me in which campaign it doesnt work? Again it only works when wingman is in the same flight, set in Mission Editor. In campaign Mission designer might use some tricks making wingman follow you but actually he is part of different flight. Then i think F2F would not work as Group address is different Do you see wingmen on datalink? Like in my screenshot You should be able to see them. If not, then its not working And you can only share 4 tracks in TWS. Radar in any other mode will not transmit tracks over the LINK 4C Maybe AI just doesnt use TWS. And i dont think you can make them use it. But at least you get info where are your wingmen. Which is something, better than nothing, considered you get it "for free"
-
It seem to work for me. Instant action BVR vs Jeff - Marianas I just asked jester to switch to F2F and freq 300 by Jester wheel. I didnt played in back seat and I didnt changed address to anything else
-
Ask Jester to do it, he knows all the frequencies null Frequencies are set under the Red circle, if you want to do it yourself Green circle is address and for 4C to work, all planes must be from same group (for AI must be in same flight set in Mission Editor, or in the kneeboard on the ground, but i dont thing AI knows how to switch it, so its just for multiplayer i think), but have different number (70-flight lead, 71 - wingman 2, 72- wingman 3, 73 - wingman 4
-
IIRC there is AI dataling frequency you have tune into - 300 MHz

R-27 has Home on jam so you should disable jammer when you get closer than 29 nm (burnthrough range) as jammer turns Fox 1 R27 into stealthy (no RWR indication) Fox3 However at distances more than 29nm jammer is very useful, especially vs soviet jets as they prevent locks, effectively making you invulnerable for shots at distances longer than 29nm. Did I mentioned that F-14 so far has longest stick in game? Also you can jam AND employ AA missiles (unlike F16/F18)? So jammer in F14 is actually very effective if used right. Just remember to switch it off. Also its great vs older sams, as long you are outside burn through range

Why does Jester 2.0 doesnt call out own airspeeds while in dogfight like Jester in F14? Also maybe new feature of calling also altitude we are fighting on? Thanks

To counter that I always press "Open Jester Menu" (button A on keyboard for me) twice, so Jester wheel "homepage" opens up. So while you have to add one or two presses more to combination to get what you want from jester, the Macro is constant in any situation. I use that with my Voice attack and I talk to jester, even if I want AA when in AG mode or opposite, and I have no trouble with "WVR" menu
-
switch off Jester, maybe second solution, tell him explicitly to use TWS auto before you switch seats
-
hmm but wasnt it like the R20 controlled both R10+R20 when LAU 138 was installed?
-
huh now thats interesting and i guess it makes sense. So even when you dont load in LAU 138 in mission editor and set flares to 60 by radio you still only get 50 flares?
-
very interesting. I think you can easily increase PK by 10% of you fire from 40k alt. 5k ft actually makes quite a difference in my experience
-
That would be a problem. On ACM panel you can see white squares under stations which are ready to fire (checked square is the station which will fire next). black squares = missile is not ready/not loaded/empty

@TomcatFan1976those targets in 6 on 6 test were not maneuvering. They just were flying straight and I believe our 54 in DCS also be able to more less recreate same effectiveness. They will hit at 0.8 mach but they will hit. Did real life test told you at what speeds those 54s hit their 4 targets? Second I believe our 54 in game is very much effective vs the fighter threat they could possibly face namely MiG21/23/25/29/31 or Su-22/24/27 with regular R27R/T missiles. The reason is simply that F14 is only aircraft with Fox3 missile in period until 1991 and thats when Soviet Union dissolved and stopped being a threat. Issues in DCS are a) People fight it vs NATO 2005 F-15E/16/18 set up with JHMCS equipped, AIM120C(introduced in 2000)/AIM9X missile loaded aircraft, with simplified RWR simulation while flying at best 1987 F14B with 1986 54C. So yea you are outdated in this scenario. Bring jets to 1987 with their 1987 loadout and you will see how OP the F14 is. and b) AI in DCS is all seeing and knowing OP entity that can magically detect 54 or even aim7 exactly when missile is exactly 10nm from them, just based on 4 puny lights in their SPO-10 RWR. So fighting BVR against them is very gamey when you can see how AI is blatantly cheating
-
AIM 54 is thin air missile. You are not using AIM120, you have to learn completely differently the optimal employment, similar to how to use AIM7 on F-4E with its Pulse only radar. Except to radar limitations you also add very sensitive optimal firing parameters, and then on top of those two, optimal target selection. Not everything can be shot at 50nm away. For some things you have to change tactics and close in for ACM shot (ACM shots in F14 are everything below 15 nm )
-
I would say its more a thin air missile. If bandit is high and most importantly you are high (40k feet launch alt) then 54 is indeed very dangerous missile to even fighters at 70nm out. Thing is that AI cheats with its RWR and always detect missile at 10nm no matter what and no matter how <profanity>ty RWR it has
-
No offence but i would not fire phoenix at anything more distance than 15 nm from 25k feet. Personally if i want to hit anything BVR wise (in F14 more than 15nm) i would climb to at least 40k, In F14 Alt beats speed to use 54 in BVR. And in closer ranges vs su27, just fox 3 at 15nm and go cold, bandit has to go cold or he will die.
-
Remember that AWG9 limitations still apply. Notching or cold targets are hard to lock in Pulse Doppler STT and Jester doesnt know how to lock in Pulse STT
