  1. What are the differences between these two birds? Is it purely that the 33 is carrier capable? (also 33 has the PFM but 27 doesn't, correct?)
  2. There are other servers that do it. The one I play the most is the Through the Inferno servers (one on 2.1, one on 1.5.7). I think a PVE focus would work real well with Mirknir's setup especially because he provides lat/long coordinates which many of the aircraft can use in their navs, whereas TTI uses military grid. Perhaps some of the NAV systems can use military grid coords, but I'm not aware of it. Anyway this is Mirknir's work and I'm only suggesting this as an option to resolve the airquake and loadout concerns, and maybe help get back to the casual, cooperative training aspect (if that's still the vision for the server). Either way I appreciate his time and effort and I'll continue to enjoy playing on his server!
  3. Perhaps making it a PVE only server would be an option. Then loadouts etc don't need to be restricted.
  4. Yeah it's rough flying a heli into enemy territory to attack. I love flying my Ka50 but I stick to the PVE areas with it, too many instances of death from above, no warning, after a long flight. It's frustrating, but I don't know what can be done about it.
  5. Is PFM for the F15 on deck at some point or is it already in place?
  6. I should be clear I'm talking about it mainly from the perspective of usability in multiplayer, where you don't have the option to create a mission plan which might populate PVI waypoints before you load into the game. In multiplayer I use the Abris to create a waypoint to the target ... used to create actual flightplans with multiple waypoints to and from the target area, but after I realized that saving them to the "hard drive" per the manual's instructions wasn't persistent - ie if I respawned or left server and came back they were gone - it just didn't seem worth the time and effort. So I create a waypoint to target area, usually by looking up the name of the town that's referenced in the mission briefing, so that I have the heading to follow and then I'll determine on the way if I want to modify the flight path to come in from another direction. But this means that in reality I hardly ever use the PVI-800 for managing or following waypoints, and I never use the autopilot that is linked to it (forget the name - you flip the switch on the left up to activate it). I basically use flight director on/off exclusively in MP.
  7. Some other servers I've tried forgo PVP altogether and just create more missions for players to team up on. I'm not saying that should be done for OC, but it could be an option. If there's no good way to balance PVP, then maybe bypass it altogether.
  8. I'm quite curious about this, as I was looking through the manual I did see an entry about a feature when you can depress the trimmer button and it will capture the deflection of the stick and trim flaps/rudder there, so you can let go of the stick and the aircraft will be trimmed. Similar to how the trimmer works on the KA-50. And being a big Ka-50 driver I found this to be quite interesting and something I want to bind to my hotas. I haven't tested it yet but will see if I can figure it out soon. Or maybe I'm completely misunderstanding what I read in the manual - entirely possible!
  9. Question ... are you guys using hte emergency afterburner thrust when taking off from carrier? I haven't tried this myself but I noticed mention of it when going thru the manual.
  10. I was going to hop on the 2.1 server but after reading the new briefing it seems like it's taking a turn to a bit more dedicated, hardcore players. Are you planning to host a server with a similar newbie-friendly approach as the 1.5 server, for NTTR?
  11. If I recall there's little switch on the left side of the cockpit that changes the autopilot mode, one is for heading, one for pitch, one for pitch & heading
  12. If we have the open beta do we automatically get the updated su-33?
  13. If you guys have a ground radar, then the F15E sounds like a good option to me! We need a hi-fi version of that bird anyway and why not add the Strike part of Strike Eagle?
  14. Is it possible for you to add the S-80 OM rockets as a selectable option for the Ka-50s. Those are the illuminating rockets for night missions. Otherwise the heli becomes very limited in options in the latter part of the server run time.
  15. They can be recalled within the same flight session by following the save procedures in the manual, but if you respawn, or go to another server and come back later, the saved flightplan is gone.
  16. TrackIR is a complete game-changer - highly recommended even over the latest fancy HOTAS.
  17. Was there a version of the KA where the Abris and the PVI-800 were linked? In other words, inputs on one were recognized by the other? Because in my opinion that's the main thing holding this heli's nav system back from A-10 level of awesomeness. (that and being able to persistently save flight plans on the hard drive...)
  18. I'm using a Saitek X-55, with the lightest spring I have, and I definitely follow the "hold the trimmer" school of flying. This has been an informative thread, now all the various advice I've seen makes sense. And it makes me want to try flying with a FFB stick some day! So I guess the short version is: 1. If you have a stick w/ spring, hold the trimmer! 2. If you have a FFB stick, tap the trimmer! Do I have it right?
  19. Given current world events I wonder, has there been any talk of a Korea map? Think of the modern scenarios ... not to mention some Mig Alley action!
  20. a general question for the multiplayer community and especially server admins. Is it possible for Abris routes to be stored on the servers so that ka-50 pilots can select from a list of routes in Abris setup? In the manual it's made clear that routes can be saved to the "hard disk" - presumably on the heli itself is what they're referring to - but I've observed that if I die or otherwise respawn I can no longer load the route. So I wonder then if this is something that can be done as part of the mission itself and stored on the server. Forgive my lack of correct terminology, I"m pretty much a noob at understanding how the server side of multiplayer works. My understanding may be completely wrong. I ask this because, as you may know, it's a total PIA to set up routes on the Abris and to have to do it every time ... it's soul crushing!
  21. What are some of the best practices that you guys are using for Datalink in multiplayer? Do you change freq from your takeoff airfield to a custom one just for datalink? Does the "squad leader" (ID:1) assign targets to rest of the flight? Do you use Datalink for mapping routes? (ingress points, etc) I have only just started to dip into this feature and am curious how people are using it, and if there are any best practices emerging in the community. The manual itself is fairly light on description and use cases for datalink.
  22. So far so good on the 1.5 server. There's a bit much friendly-fire for my liking, especially from fixed wing against helis. Not sure what can be done about that. I don't know if it's possible but having heli slots at multiple airports would be great because there are some instances where the ground spawns are quite a distance away at least for the 200km/hr helis. So what has happened more than once is fast movers get there well before I can and despite attempts to communicate they'll clear the area out before I've gotten even halfway there. Finally, unless my eyes deceive me I *think* that the f10 map on the nevada server shows blue-shaded areas where known enemy spawns are, similar to what the ABRIS on the ka50 shows. Is that possible on the 1.5.6 version? Would add a great deal to SA without giving away the farm as showing the actual units did. I might also suggest that you see what the Open Conflict server is doing - instead of just providing grid details it gives a heading and estimated distance. Prevents having to swap to f10 map so often, pan around, zoom in and out, etc. Just a thought.
  23. Just a quick note that it happened again this evening, US Eastern Time
  24. Twice now on the NEvada server, since the last changes, when I go to f10 map and then find the grid location of where the ground targets should be, I try to put a marker in that area so I can get heading etc and keep a reference, the server disconnects me and it appears that the server crashes.
