  1. As far as multi player goes, its going to come down to online squads with password protected multi player sessions for an enjoyable mp session. Remember, noobs are a double edged sword. I mean you want to encourage new players because that generates interest for the game and revenue for DCS, which equates to more games for us. Lets just remember to keep our composure. I'm sure there are going to be BS drivers that you finally get joined up to a session after an hour of trouble shooting and realize they just can't fly. I remember being in an F4 online squad and this "trainer" going through all this stuff prior to take off. We had the comms and everything else up and running. It was cool until he got super pissed that I couldn't hold formation as good as he liked. I guess we were trying out for the damn Thunderbirds or something. Anyway, it just really discouraged me from playing because he was such a dick. Lets try and show the other sims how professional our DCS community is. We are rotor heads, a different breed. A better breed. I can't wait for this sim to be released. Great job ED. And that goes for the beta guys too.
  2. I'm leaning towards this "out of the box" collective. I think it looks great. Sort of wishing it bolted directly on the throttle though. But with that X52 adapter, the velcro wrap should hold pretty good I'm imagining. How do you map the keys? Software? Also, where is everyone getting those platforms that bold directly to chair? I would love to have that for both the cyclic and collective. I would hate to sue DCS for my carpal tunnel :)
  3. So per CAT we can have the shval on another monitor. Does anyone know if the ABRIS can be put on another monitor as well? I'm flirting with building a pit myself.
  4. I dont think i did a good job of describing what i meant. Ok, imagine holding the throttle like you would in a fighter, it slides fwd and back. Ok still holding the throttle, pick it up and rotate it with your hand like you are holding a gun. Now postition it near your left thigh so you can slide it up and down like a collective. And i have to think that is has some resistance built in. If it doesn't then I guess this is just a waste of disk space on a server somewhere. :) SunDown
  5. Great vid. I know it's pretty late in the development game, but I would love it if the Shkval TV screen would black out after a heavy duty explosion.....
  6. Well I've been getting my hardware list together to make purchases for my DCS sim rig. As you guys know, the collective market is pretty thin out there. I have an idea though, and thought I would run it by you guys... Can you take a CH Pro Throttle and turn the base 90 degrees to the left and use it like a collective....?? Now bear with me....if you notice the CH Throttle is pretty symetrically laid out as far as the buttons on the face. If you turn the entire unit over 90 degrees and look down on it, it should look like a combat helicopter's collective. You may have to angle it to get the natural up and down slide so it doesn't put your hand in an uncomfortable position. It will have to be positioned near your left thigh to feel right. If you have a CH Throttle, let me know what you think. SunDown
  7. I was part of TF Phoenix. Worked in Kabul, Kunar, Zormont, Kapisa, etc. Basically the Eastern Zone. I was an ETT for the ANA and ANCOP. It's hard to watch the news these days because AFG is really going downhill. We need to either bring the hammer or get out. I got tired of spoon feeding those Afghans. Glad you made it back.
  8. Ok, I know we go around and around about specs...but hear me out. I'm one the brink of buying a new machine. I've been out of the loop on hardware for a couple years (deployed to Afghanistan). I know I can do my homework blah blah blah...but you guys see the sim everyday versus your hardware. Spec a machine for me...what is it going to take to run DCS.BS. Nothing official and nothing anyone is going to hold you too...I want the bells and whistles. I want smooth frames and decent resolution. Processor? RAM,Type? VidCard, Type? I just read a great idea in an earlier post about spending my time waiting for BS to release by flying X-plane. I haven't flown a helicopter sim since Janes LB2. If I can go ahead and get comfortable flying again, then I can concentrate on learning the systems instead of having to do both when the sim is released. Any help would be great. SunDown
  9. I would love FFB but who even makes those anymore? Microsoft? I wish one of the the big three, Saitek, Thurstmaster, or CH would come out with a FFB version of there high end sim sticks.....
  10. Well, I've been a Gunner on a M2 Bradley for a long time. I can tell you that 25mm AP rounds are a yellow white, and the HE rounds are orange. The 7.62 coax is of course 4 to 1 mix with an orange tracer. I'm sure you guys have the Soviet hardware covered already.
  11. Very Nice Yeah, I started with all the Top Gun callsigns...Iceman, Slider, Hollywood, Wolfman, Maverick, Goose, Jester, Viper, Cougar, etc...but the only one I could register with was SunDown. He was a punk anyway, but I'll try and bring some honor back to the callsign...lol
  12. Of all the information I've seen, it looks like the start up procedure is nailed down pretty frim. Besides the Producers Note #1, will we see any systems training material prior to release? I.e. ramp start, ABRIS, etc wrapped in a java app or in a document. Just wondering if it was being considered. SunDown
  13. Here is a little movie trivia.... "SunDown" was a backseater (under tough circumstances) for this well know Hollywood pilot.....
  14. Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I've been watching this sim develop for a long time. Waiting just over the ridgeline if you will. I think the producers have done a great job putting out information. I try to watch the videos again and again, hoping to pick up something new. Releasing the 3rd party plug-ins will insure DCS:BS for years, even as new editions to DCS are released. Personally I'm waiting for the AH-64 to be released. I'm a rotor-head. I'm already starting to budget for a new rig with HOTAS, IR Tracker, pedals, and anything else that will help me put lead on target. I'm hoping to get some good feedback on pc specs. I'll have my pre-order in as soon as they start taking orders. I'm sure there are alot of simmers out there that are waiting like me. We dont mind the wait, because I know you guys are making forward progress and working hard at releasing a quality sim. Will there be bugs? of course, but we as a community will get them identified and you guys will get them fixed. Eventually I would like to join a virutal squadron and learn this beast together with like minded pilots that are interested in being top notch Ka-50 drivers. Not "shoot-em up" kamakazis. Well again, nice to meet everyone and its nice to get up on these boards. We are close gentlemen, lets stay positive and not start getting crazy here near the end. SunDown
  15. Gentlemen, calling all graphic designers here. We are looking to create a patch for the GTATC. If anyone has any ideas or would like to submit a design, feel free to do so here or PM me. Just ask that it look professional and military in nature. Thanks SunDown
  16. Well the English flight manual is out. I'll create an exam on the first chapter and post it. If anyone else wants to create exams for following chapters, please post it here.
  17. We can work through the chapters of this book http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aircraft/media/faa-h-8083-21.pdf What do you think?
