  1. Haven’t heard anything for ages on the Mirage III. Is there still a plan for the MIII from Razbam. The original plan was for perhaps a multi version module iirc. This is not a “when will it be out?” question, but rather a “Is this going to be a thing?” question. Or have Razbam changed their mind on this and I missed the announcement? pngflyer
  2. What about Australia? Specifically the North (Darwin, Tindal, Weipa, Cape York) WW2 - Significant allied (Australia, US) airbases located in these areas. Also suffered Japanese air raids, with RAAF fighters launched against the raiders. Bombers also flew from these areas, as well as Beaufighters, P-40’s, Spitfires and many other types. Modern - Current RAAF bases at Tindal and Darwin, both of which get super busy for operations like Pitch Black. Exercises in the area make use of the huge Delamere range/air space. This would be great for the Hornet (75 sqn based here), and for the Mirage iii (the RAAF operated the iiio) when that comes. The area regularly hosts F-16’s, C-130’s, B-52’s, Hornets, Harriers and many others. Even Mirage 2000’s... A new map in this area would also bring a variety of landscapes and a tropical environment which would be new to DCS. There is a huge amount of interesting coastline, without many major population centres to drag down frame rates. Tropical coast, dessert, lush rainforest and plenty of water for carrier ops. How about huge tropical storms as the DCS weather engine matures over time... What do we think? pngflyer
  3. Here's another interesting fact. A side stick could be considered a liability in combat. When the Israelis were designing the Lavi, they decided to go with a center stick so that the pilot could still control the aircraft even with a damaged right arm... Sure, the odds are pretty low, but in certain instances a center stick could make the difference between an injured pilot getting the aircraft home or not.
  4. Here’s a great article for you fans of the 27. Enjoy. https://hushkit.net/2018/08/15/flying-and-fighting-in-the-mig-27-interview-with-a-mig-pilot/ pngflyer
  5. Yeah ok. I meant to write in one engine intake and not the other. Obviously it’s a single engine aircraft. pngflyer
  6. Hi, I’m reading Red Eagles at the moment. A great read. The Mig 23 was a pig to fly if those reports are to be believed. US pilots who flew it felt like the aircraft wanted to kill them, and was disliked by all those in the Red Eagles who flew it. It has some bizarre aerodynamic “quirks” which proved very dangerous. For example “air intake buzz” was a compressor stall in one engine intake and not the other which caused a yaw and a secondary roll at speed. This was very difficult to recover from under certain circumstances. Also, the 23 had a throttle interlock which physically prevented the pilot from retarding the throttle too fast at high Mach speeds. This was to prevent the engine from literally ripping out of the engine mounts and separating from the aircraft if the throttle was pulled back at high speeds. Only when the speed had decayed to below 1.5 Mach was the pilot able to select idle power. This meant that they were stuck at higher Mach numbers irrespective of what else the aircraft was doing, while the pilot just sat and watched the airspeed slowly come down. If the aircraft developed a PIO for example the pilots just had to ride it out till their speed came down and the interlock allowed them to throttle back. A narrow tricycle undercarriage meant that it could ground loop easily. The wing carry through box had problems with cracking. The engines were extremely short lived, and the aircraft just wouldn’t turn. But it was ridiculously fast... Pilots said that it would easily speed through placard limits as the engine just had so much raw power. Are we sure we want this as a module for DCS:). Maybe all this didn’t apply to later models, but I’m not sure. pngflyer
  7. I just wanted to say thanks to ED for providing an offline mode. This means that I can enjoy all my modules/maps even if I can't get online, which is often for us. As someone who lives in a remote area this is really important. Thanks ED for listening to customer concerns, and for a very workable solution. pngflyer
  8. Thanks for the answers and the help guys. pngflyer
  9. Quick question for you guys. Is there a way to do a quick and dirty return to base? Prep 00 can only be edited on the ground as you say jojo, but if you want to return to base (ie to Prep 00) once you are past waypoint 1, how do you do that? pngflyer
  10. Great news, thank you very much for this. This is really needed. Thanks Wags for taking the time to answer. pngflyer
  11. Thanks for the reply. I sure hope they work out something. I spend much of the year without internet. Pretty and all Caucasus looks now, I would only be able to enjoy it with the TF-51 or Su-25T, and no NTTR or future maps. pngflyer
  12. Quick question for the devs... Why no offline play in 2.5? I really need to be able to use DCS in offline mode, and be able to access the content I’ve purchased, as I am regularly without internet access. When I try to run DCS offline since upgrading to 2.5, I just get a message saying that I none of my modules are authorised (they are) and then informs me that they have been disabled. Surely I don’t need to go back to 1.5 just to use DCS offline? Could you guys please do something about this? Thanks for listening pngflyer
  13. Hi Baltic_Dragon, Just wanted to say a big “thank you” for porting these lessons to NTTR. I have no idea how you find time to do this stuff, but we really enjoy everything you make. Really looking forward to flying these. pngflyer
  14. Hi, I fly DCS exclusively on a laptop as I’m usually on solar power. Plenty of people have lots to say about laptops being not suitable for DCS. It’s true that a desktop for the same money will out perform a laptop, but you can run DCS perfectly well on a laptop if you’re happy to accept some compromise. You will just have to experiment a little to see what settings work, as there is less headroom with performance. It seems even the guys running the specced up, overclocked desktops are having to make compromises too, just not as many... My budget only stretched to a 1060 with a Core i7-7700HQ, and I’ve been running DCS on VR perfectly adequately on a borrowed Vive. I personally keep an eye on laptop reviews which rate laptops on performance. It’s incredible how 2 identically specced laptops can differ in performance by so much. I’d check out the ASUS RoG Strix GL502VS-GZ233T. It punches well above it’s price point and runs a 1070. If the budget allows, check out the Aorus X7 DT v7. Even better with a 1080 onboard. The Omen’s are punching above their price point too, but there is a great variety on spec, so choose carefully. I notice the MSI’s don’t quite perform as well as their spec suggests for some reason... I notice the same thing with the Alienware laptops too for what it’s worth... One last thing, if you can, go with a bigger chassis as they use more modular components, some of which can be upgraded. The bigger chassis allow for better cooling and let the GPU boost up to higher speeds and sit there more happily. Because I’m a little limited on budget I often buy the “no name” brands with the better spec. You won’t get the build quality, but you’ll often be able to customise for a better spec on the internals. Good luck, and I hope this helps. pngflyer
  15. Hi, I’ve been flying with a borrowed G930 and there are definitely 3 columns in 2.5. I made no attempt to import those assignments from 1.5 when I installed 2.5, so I’m not sure if that’s possible, and I re-assignd everything when I installed 2.5. I am using the drivers from Logitech’s web page. pngflyer
  16. OK, understood. Thanks for the help. Steam downloaded and installed, as is SteamVR. Thanks for the tip on the Lab. pngflyer
  17. Thanks DigitalEngine. I don't seem to be able to find a working link anywhere for Steamvr. Some posts indicate that SteamVR is locked to Steam and cannot be downloaded by itself. Some posts suggest that I would require Openvr? Does this sound right? Is Openvr reliable for DCS World? Thanks for your help. pngflyer
  18. Hi guys, Do I require Steam and SteamVR to use a Vive in DCS World standalone? A friend just lent me a Vive to try. I just want to use it in DCS and P3D alone, and would prefer to avoid Steam if I possibly can. Lots of searching has provided ambiguous answers, so I'm none the wiser. I would like to just plug the Vive in and fly, without downloading anything (updating drivers aside). Is this possible? pngflyer
  19. Hi, Any plans for a twist mechanism? pngflyer

    New update

I understand now. Thanks for that Cats. I really appreciate that clear explanation.

    New update

I understand that but I’m not clear how long that takes. I don’t usually get the beta updates, but rather I wait till it comes through on the updater. Basically I’m confused about how the beta process works. If you can enlighten me I’d appreciate it...

    New update

Hi guys, When does this beta branch update become part of the main updates that comes through the regular path?

    Mirage F1

The Mirage F-1 just became a whole lot more interesting prospect for enjoying in DCS. ATAC USA has just purchased 63 F-1's plus 150 engines from France. I could imagine some challenging Agressor type DLC campaigns based on F-1's vs Hornets. http://www.atacusa.com/press_releases/press_release_53.html Was also just reading that Draken International had also recently purchased 22 upgraded F-1M's & B's from Spain. pngflyer
  24. Thanks for your hard work guys. Really looking forward to flying her with the updated FM. pngflyer.
  25. Honestly, I love a twist axis on a stick, and am looking closely at the MCG. I have neither the room nor the money for pedals, and for me at least this is a great solution. A discreet throttle slider would make this the perfect stick for me... Just my 5c... pngflyer
