fixed Damage Issue - Tail shot off but tail rotor works
JimmyWA replied to FalcoGer's topic in Bugs and Problems

I thought I had the same problem. I'd bought a new modem, and was blaming that. I didn't get the update message when I started DCS. I checked for an update, did the update, and problem solved. It would appear that in the hour between unplugging the old modem and putting the new modem in place, the update had occurred - Murphy's Law.

Great job, The only addition would be to change the throttle detente from off to idle before trying to start the engines.

I've been searching to see if this topic has already been discussed, but could not find it anywhere - the search words return at least 40 pages, and I stop after around the 5th page - but I wanted to share this. I have a top of the wazza PC with an older RTX2080ti video card, which I overclock. However, even by setting all the DCS video settings to low and no shadows, my FPS could be as low as 8. I then stumbled across a couple of articles, and in SteamVR went to settings, and changed the Render Resolution from Auto to 48%. This sets it much closer to what the actual resolution of my HP G2 is. This means in the Per App setting, I leave DCS at 100%. The results are startling. I am now getting around 60fps on both single and MP. I then added shadows, and even MSAA, and I was still getting nearly 60 fps. I can fly in DCS using VR again!

I’ve found my performance has gone downhill since the beginning of the year. From my testing DCS only uses around 12GB and the Windows system will always access the pagefile no matter how much RAM you have. That is why I have an NVME as my C: drive and DCS sitting on an SSD. Last year I resolved all my DCS performance issues by buying an RTX 2080ti, but after some DCS updates this year it feels like the CPU has a lot more to deal with, and that might be the bottleneck? I use process lasso but even that doesnt help these days. As a result, I’ve stopped flying DCS for now.

Thanks!

I've placed some Nazi boats heading into Dover harbour but they aren't showing up. Also, I have the P-47 as a client, along with a Huey. If I crash the P-47 and press ESC and select the P-47 nothing happens. If I select the Huey I go into the Huey. I can then press ESC and go into the P-47. Am attaching the mission. Confused: Control bindings
JimmyWA replied to squirrelmeister's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
Did some testing and it appears to be the Gazelle and this map. Taking off from Dover Castle my frames dropped to 1! I turned off both shadow settings and they went up to 5-10. I changed to the Huey, and was getting around 30 FPS. In the other maps I get a variable 35-40 FPS. Before DCS updated earlier this year I used to get a rock solid 35 FPS (which equals 70 FPS). That was with all graphics settings on high and with shadows. Would get no stutters and it was as smooth as. Now I have to reduce my graphics settings and turn off shadows for lesser performance. -
Confused: Control bindings
JimmyWA replied to squirrelmeister's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
I just had a strange problem too. Created a mission on the Channel Map and put an SA342L in the castle on Dover. When I went to take off it went nuts. I went into the options and reset the axis assignments but it was like it was sticking. I'd just been flying the Jug fine, so I knew the controls are actually OK. But once in the Gazelle if I pulled the joystick back and then recentred, the indication would show it being pulled back but being held. The same would go for roll. It would have a mind of its own. I changed the Gazelle to a Hue and suddenly the problem was fixed. I've uploaded my DCS.LOG file but had to delete some of the repeating error messages to bring it under 3MB and then had to rename the extension to txt. I love your products, but you don't make it easy to provide you with the log files. BTW - the Channel map is stunning. And I love the detail around Dover. Makes it very enjoyable to fly a helicopter around there in VR. dcs - Copy.txt -
Yep. I had to stop flying in Dec. since coming back, the performance is woeful and DCS keeps crashing. It feels like I’m spending most of my time filling in the crash reports now.
-
I stopped flying in December due to a family member becoming ill. Then DCS was flying beautifully. Since starting flying in May 2020 DCS is crashing in MP - it is unusable - and even when setting my graphics settings to low (they were high in Dec) the performance sucks. I deleted my shader files, and had kept updating DCS regularly in anticipation of getting back to it.

Hi Gonvise - thanks for that information. What FPS do you get in multiplayer?
-
That is so strange that we get a different result! And again, thanks for all the testing. And once again I didn’t enter in LASTE last night, and was missing. When I put in Wind data I noticed the vertical ccrp line moved over more to one side and I hit the target. The only other thought is that I’m flying on a 2.5 Open Beta server?

Your PC specs are a bit low for VR - I have had to OC mine to 4Ghz to get decent performance, put DCS on an SSD, and my C driver onto an M2NE SSD Drive. My single player is OK, but if I don't set the CPU affinity to all before connecting to multiplayer, I get around 15fps instead of the rock steady 35 FPS and no stutters. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243170

Hi Nineline, I discovered what I was "doing wrong" in not being able to unlock a target. Hopefully if others report this, you will know what they are doing. I would lock up a target in the radar, then switch to the SA to check the altitude of other bandits. That was why I couldn't unlock - the radar screen was no longer the SOI.

Thanks for going to all the trouble of testing that, and creating a video - and yes, I was too lazy to go and watch it :) As Tippis has pointed out, there is most likely a difference between static and dynamic weather. Other threads have also made mention that the automatic update of the LASTE in the A10 is probably not modeled. I've never had a problem with bomb delivery until flying in Multiplayer with dynamic weather - with strong winds. It was because of this thread that I thought I was wasting my time, and stopped entering in the data, and then started missing. Once I inputed the data again, I was hitting the targets. So it looks like you don't need to enter the LASTE wind data when you have calm or static weather. There might even be a difference between single player and MP?
-
What was the wind doing in your mission?
-
After reading this thread about not needing it, I thought I’d been wasting my time. But without LASTE My GBUs were missing by quite a distance. I certainly wouldn’t enter it if I didn’t have to. I fly on a MP server with random weather. From reading other threads it appears the consensus is that LASTE entry is only needed in bad weather when deploying from high altitude - which I normally do to avoid AAA.

Tried not entering in wind tonight, with wind speed varying from 3kts at zero feet to 17kts at 5000 feet. GBU12 would miss or land near the target. Entered in winds, and GBU hit targets.

Solved: New Computer, Horrible Performance
JimmyWA replied to StrongHarm's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Yes, Once I found this I checked Prepare3d, Xplane and even SteamVR - they always load up using All cores. Since a DCS OpenBeta update in June, DCS now randomly starts on my PC only using either 1 core, or ALL cores. No idea why it is random, and I wonder if this is what is making it so hard for them to work out their VR issues? It would make it difficult to get consistent results on some PCs. -

That’s good - because I asked ED to put it as a sticky but heard nothing, and I’m trying to make sure that anyone else suffering from this issue finds the solution. I struggled for six months until I finally found this what the problem was, which has now been complicated by DCS randomly starting on 1 core. Hence me posting again. A lot of people don’t hang around the forum but are sent to to one thread when they google. Just because it isn’t a problem for you doesn’t mean it isn’t a huge problem for others. I’m glad Ive gotten this information out there so well!
-
Hi Imacken, You have to make sure DCS is running on more than one core. Since the second last Beta update, on my PC it now randomly defaults to run on 1 (and I get 15 FPS in VR with stutters) or ALL (and I get up to 45 FPS with no stutters). https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243170
-
Since the second last OpenBeta patch DCS is now randomly defaulting to running on either one or all my cores. On All cores I get a steady 35-40 FPS on Multiplayer in VR and it is as smooth as. On 1 core I get half and stuttering. Considering I’m probably not the only one affected by this, it’s going to make EDs job very hard in working out system performance. I also posted the following in another thread: I would check to see what difference you see when changing graphics to high instead of ultra. Shadows are the biggest hit - try lowering them. For best performance your System drive should be a SSD NVM M.2 (even with 32 gab RAM DCS, or probably the Windows system, still writes to continuously to the page file.) Your DCS Drive should be an SSD as DCS writes (only a small amount) to this drive - and turn off the track file). And if I run DCS at anything below 4ghz, my frame rates are almost halved, but as long as I have All cores enabled, there is no stuttering. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243170
