Long Time Flight Simmer's Review of DCS: A10C
element1108 replied to Greb's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I often forget it's in beta form, I'm reminded whenever I watch a training video on youtube users post. THey are quite helpful, Tyger's steps on the maverick have made me an expert marksman with them and there's another guy out there who did the trim/multi target jdam vids who's also great. Anyway back on topic I guess... Nice post Greb, I too had taken quite a few years off from simming (1999-2006) simply because I went mac for work and flight sim titles were spares. Since intel joined the picture I was able to come back...at a no better time mind you with the pending release of Black Shark. I got Black Shark, LOMAC and IL-2 inside of 2 weeks, new HOTAS and tracker IR as well. Needless to say I spent the next couple of months "catching up" from my Janes days ;). Surprised how much i retained. -
Looks like a cleaner and pretty version of novalogic Commache Actually looks like pick up and play fun though. First time hearing of it that's for sure.

The key is to offer housework, do your chores, help out as much as possible and there is a very high chance of a) "cuddles" and b) undisturbed flight sim time. Either that or get up super early before she does and play play play until 9am, then make breakfast for her and coffee so she doesn't have to do anything. She will pave the golden path to your computer and bring you lunch/chocolate milk/milk shakes/beer/meat whatever. ;) Okay I may be living in a dream world, but there's an ounce of truth in that.

Probably won't get any such statement from ED, the only limit they seemed to have set for themselves is we won't see F22's and such in a dcs module anytime soon (understandably so). Two seaters is probably something that is very well possible. MI-24, Apache, F-15E. -
You've just earned +1's for life dude, this is great, thanks SO much!

The avionics upgrade can also be used at lower alt's and minimize blue on blue incidents. Higher rez and updated avionics will help with target ident that's for sure. The ability to link with other aircraft and mark ground positions on a tad is also invaluable. The C can still perform the tasks of the A, but THEN some. Going from 25,000 dropping jdams on targets then being called in to support ground troops in a danger close position is possible. They say to effectively fly an F-16 into combat you would require a Ph.D worth of knowledge. There is nothing simple about modern day fighter/bomber pilots. Offtopic: Rumors circulating TOP GUN 2, director Ridly Scott, starring Tom Cruise with Jerry Bruckheimer producting. Back on topic: A-10C YEAH! ;)

I can't wait to hear users thoughts on the TM! I have to hold off unfortunately, I'm headed to London for 3 months in Nov for work (Toronto now)...currently framing and reno'ing the basement...one of it's greatest features, a PROPER, PROFESSIONAL EDIT suit...being DISGUISED AS A FLIGHT DECK. New computer, new monitors designed around "editing" but made for flying...;) DCS A-10C (not a sim pit...I'm not clever or handy enough to design myself one of those). The TM warthog will be the crowning achievment.

I loved the clean graphics of A-10 Cuba. No textures, but that didn't seem to matter to me then, the clean lines and high frame rates crushed my desire for early bitmap texturing hehe.

No scripted landings, jet thunder if it ever gets releases will probably be a fun sim survey sim. Who doesn't want to fly the harrier? They do need to take that pointy arrow thing off the HUD though. Even in "simple mode", get it off the heads up display, critical information there. Edit: sim hq article says jet thunder has a publisher and a 2010 release date planned. Aerosoft....publisher. Full startup on harrier modeled.

Cool vid, you did alright for not really being in the situation that much. I personally find it easier to leave the schval out of it and use standard WWII type attacks. Place the pipper on the target, keeping in mind deflection and nice short bursts. If your on his six, just get in as close as you can and a quick burst without moving the schval and locking into position is much easier for me. Not sure if that helps any, in the vid you just had to worry about too many things to really be an efficient attack/defender (hence almost dying rotor wash).

Great pics man, thanks for sharing!

That's a good point...stop worrying and enjoy! We're always looking 50 steps ahead and never on the what we have now. I never thought I'd have the chance to fly DCS A-10C before Christmas, I also NEVER thought DCS Black Shark would be made compatible with LOCKON. We've been given loads of "surprises" that have really gone above expectations for many and I think we just ride out that wave and enjoy what we have now. Sitting here speculating on the distant future of this series is pointless (IMO). But if you all enjoy doing that more than playing, that's cool! :)

I "probably" am considering I fly in Win XP 32 through bootcamp on a mac heheh. I haven't really had a CTD problem though even in populated servers. Maybe they're not populated enough or I just switch back and forth between BS and LOMAC before that time runs out...not sure. That's a pain though no doubt. Update to 64bit fix?
-
But there will always be the need for patches you see. Especially I they keep upgrading old code, new code breaks old code rules and you require patches. Those take time, cost money and are in an infiniteloop. I'd rather they concentrate on future elements. I am an bid player of lomac and bs, but at some point a line must be drawn so we can move forward. If they patch and continue to fix, bonus, but it's a little radical to ask for all series to be compatible (lockon and dcs). Land the a10a in lomac and the c in dcs and that's enough reason right there to end dev on lomac. Hhehe. Maverick is another good example. Legal issues as well with ubi, I'd refer the work of a small indy company vs a mega corporation. That's my two cents anyway :)
-
Now we wait for final a10 release then wait for dcs bs comparability and the next module announcement. Doesn't make sense to try to keep lomac in the loop, it has a lot of planes and one helo, that should suffice. For the time and headache it will be to retrofit not only black shark, but lomac into dcs standards will not be easy and will delay the future of dcs. Be satisfied with bs and lomac upgrade, it will always be there. A10 is complicated so I would say most are enjoying the steep learning curve, once familiar bs will pick up again no doubt. There are dedicated rotor heads among us.

I don't think I can fully go through the manual until I can get a hard cover so I can read it before bed. I retain everything when I read before bed, plus having it on my lap whilst flying is also ideal. If it takes too long to come out, I'll eventually get through it digitally.

Looks like a photoshop mix of FSX with scenery software and some combat SFX. The missiles I think were fudged in, but I really have no idea. I don't think it's a "new sim" that's for sure.

You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..

Guilty as charged. -
Remembr as well it's not just a new airframe, there are major improvments to a10 that make it a entirly new entity . Call of duty changes the skins around and recycles maps from cod UO and cod 2 and charge $59 a pop for xbox. This is more than a skin change. On top of the fact they have highly specialized staff to deal with the engineering and aeronautical challenges doing a high fidelity flight sim, they're not getting paid 30k a year like the programmers on ea sports franchise. Games have always been in and around $60 (in Canada anyway). In 1994 snes and sega games were $69-$89 a pop. There is no backward conspiracy here to rob us, it's more expensive because that's most likely how the math adds up. I'm sure the national guard paid a lot more for their product no doubt, and ours is better. This is the reason people don't talk about how much they make or who they're going to vote for. If you complain about price, it will be rebutted and in the end the ones that can afford the product get it. It shouldn't be concluded that because a10 went up in price compared to black shark that the next module will go up as well.

I can't see for myself yet, but 32 bit tracker ir, is there a natural point update for dcs A10 beta? Or simply use bs profile?

Digital combat simulation; no room for a 172 ;). Besides no one will buy it and therefore no funds will be made available to build this very expensive brand new engine and weather generator you ask for. Time isn't nearly important as money. Money wins.
