I found this page, which also lists several missles as Air-to-Air for the Ka-50. The Kamov Ka-50 Why are so many things listed as Air-to-Air if it never uses it, and why is there a "mode" for the helicopter to act under Air-to-Air in the weapons selection modes? What IS used for Air-to-Air? Did they just make the mode in the helicopter and waste time/space/etc.? I don't want spoilers, but someone had a thread about Air-to-Air that said possible spoiler, so I skipped reading it, but I wonder what it was about now. I seem to remember a few Air-to-Air on the wingtips of my old Gunship game, was that completely "Arcade"-ed up for fun? I can remember a few times blasting away other choppers in flight while vacating areas and they blocked my path. I thought I remembered it being an actual simulation...the manual was a beast! Me confused!?!

Yeah, I think it was saying, "Hey, Stupid, look at your gas situation!" I was just sitting in a hover same as I'd been for about 1/2 hour whilst shooting those nasty, evil trucks and stuff.

To be honest, I kind of have (had) no clue. That's why I asked:music_whistling::thumbup::megalol::cry::huh::joystick::smartass: Thanks! I like NOT dying at the end of missions. I don't know why, I just feel that much more accomplished when it turns out that way!:smilewink::smilewink::smilewink::smilewink:

He Finally does it!!! He took off, followed waypoints (for the most part, zig-zags can be nice to study later), hovered the 'copter, shot many, many evil bad vehicles and bunkers infesting the nice field with their vile rottenness, destroying most of the ones he shot at, got a 'Watch EKRAN' warning which he thinks was saying "Gas is low, dude, go home!", struggled with the route auto-pilot function but finally made course and destination line up with the airport; he even radioed in saying, "I'm on my way, be there in five!" and "May I land now?", he even ALMOST landed from where he took off. SO WHAT IF THE COMPANY COMMANDER FLIPPED FROM ONE SILLY LITTLE BLOWN TIRE on the landing, and the THREE OUTER-ROTOR BLADES SMACKED OFF WHILE HITTING THE GROUND from a tiny, little, accidental, or course, tipping while trying to account for the popped-tire. Geesh, they have to make such a big deal out of every little detail! THEY SHOULD'VE GIVEN ME BETTER RUBBER THAT WOULDN'T BLOW SO EASILY! Anyway, I took off, flew my route (well, I got there and pretty much touched all the waypoints at some point during flight-time), shot many targets (did well with VIKHR and Guns, but rockets I don't have yet!), and returned home without crashing & dying on the landing. IT'S A FIRST!!! I think my engines were just about to fumes when I was about 30 feet (9-10 meters, or there about), and I could not get a hover without some kind of 1, 2 or 3 mph skew in one-direction-or-another. I had planned to just hover and sink, but I just can't seem to hover over the landing field. Ugh! How long, generally speaking, should you be in the air with a full tank of gas (both)? My mission was 1:45 hours long, and almost all was airborne. Lot of hovering over the target field, but is that about right? To be out of gas at only 1:45 minutes? Hey, flat-tire and rotor blades vs. death? I think I won, this time! Ps- Skypat...I forgive you

When I get to the point of being told to point to the DCS Root Folder, a list of folders on my desktop comes up. There are no SHORTCUTS on this list, there is no address box to type anything into. It is a list of FOLDERS on my desktop, and it will let me choose nothing else. No option anywhere. It is like this -Desktop +Generic Folder on Desktop Another Generic Folder -Opened Generic Folder -Generic Sub Folder art folder +save folder xyz folder zzz folder Yet another Generic folder -Another opened folder Another Generic Sub folder I really don't like being frustrated.

Easier ways to remember start-up procedure?
Sunjah replied to Wags94's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I look forward to tyring your checklist. As for now, I have an idea of the procedure, but I just mapped the "Auto-Start" to my space bar and press it each time. Until something better comes along, like hopefully your checklist, I'm sticking with the space bar! -
I thought I had installed the Mitch skins correctly. Last night, I got frustrated at not seeing what options I had for skins, so I copied the "Shooting Range" mission and made one for each skin. I tested some and was shocked to find that a few of them show up invisible. The cockpit, pilot, rotor blades, engines, guns and a few other things all show up, but no outer helicopter skin (much akin to Wonder Woman's jet). The BOLD ones I tested and worked, the RED ones showed up invisible and the OTHERS still have to be tested. This leads me to 2 questions: 1) Does anyone know what are the skins INCLUDED in the game by default, and which ones are from "Mitch-Skins?" I've already had to reinstall this thing twice and really don't want to do it just for this information. 2) Any idea of why at least 2 helicopters are not showing up at all, but are invisible instead? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Default (fine) 2- Default faded (not tested) 3- "22" Black Shark (NICE!) 4- "24" (not tested) 5- Desert (not tested) 6- Digital Camouflage (not tested) 7- DOSAFF (not tested) 8- Euro Desert (not tested) 9- Euro Camouflage 1 (not tested) 10- Euro Camouflage 2 (not tested) 11- Euro Gray (not tested) 12- Euro Gray- old (not tested) 13- Euro Green (not tested) 14- Euro Green and Gray (not tested) 15- Euro Green and Gray- old (not tested) 16- Euro Winter (not there/invisible) 17- Olive Green (not tested) 18- Snow Splatter (fine) 19- Standard (Nice) 20- Tropical Green (NICE...I love this one!) 21- Sweedish Green (not there/invisible) 22- Werewolf (fine)

I play on a 3.2 processer (Intel 4-dual, but from what I've read this game does not take advantage of that), 2 GB RAM and a nVIDIA 8800 GTX. Mine is fairly smooth, but as the others so far have said, your system could turn out to be quite choppy with this game. My CPU is just about exactly 2x of yours, and I'm happy with the play, but at 1/2 of what I have now...I would definitely upgrade the main CPU before buying this. Great game, and well worth an upgrade, though!:smilewink:

I liked the world much more when it wasn't THIS acronym happy. I'll be reading a post on something, say the game "Knights of the Old Republic," and there will be so many acronyms that those who post there often obviously know them. For me, it is like trying to decipher another language. If people use acronyms, I wish they would initially say what they're talking about, and then switch to the acronym. It would give that person reading the knowledge they need if they did not already have it. IIRC for "if I remember correctly?" What is wrong with actually typing (at least once, then switch to the acronym if it must be). The Internet has not only made people demand instantaneous fulfillment of their needs, it has also made them incredibly lazy (ergo, the overuse [extreme, unparalled, daunting and quite scary overuse] of acronyms). I just had to vent and say it!

Although it still won't pan, as in F2 (which is what I want as well), the "Left SHIFT + F4" (arcade chase) gives you an exact chase view. If you don't move the view it stays at your tail looking forward, moving and turning keeping the helicopter exactly centered from tail-forward. If you do change the views, they move from a fixed point from behind the aircraft, virtually the reverse pan that I think both of us want. It doesn't slew & slide like the L_Ctrl + F4 (chase) behind the plane, but rather it is as if the camera is mounted on a point just behind the tail-fin. You can pan your head left, right, up and down, and if you press reset view (Numberpad 5) you are right back behind the tail by a few feet again. So far this is my favorite view outside the helicopter! If I could get L_SHIFT + F4 view, and F2's pan ability at the same time, I would be happy. Give the L_SHIFT + F4 a shot, best for "chase" view that I've found.

First fighter to be added to DCS: Black Shark?
Sunjah replied to Alexrey's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I am with you on this one, brother!!! Could not have said it better myself! Only difference would be F/A-18 (Super) Hornet would be my choice over the A-6...not too familiar with that plane, though I'd still use it for carrier ops! (I use to like flying the F-22 Raptor from a carrier in JetFighter III, not an official sim; but boy were those carrier ops awesome!) (Actually, while thinking about it, there was a game put out by EA those many years ago, I don't remember the exact name, but it might have been F/A-18. I played it for hours and hours on my Commodore Amiga, that was my first experience with any type of fighter game...then moved on to simulations in the 90's, but those Amiga days still bring back fond memories with that game) -
>>> TRACK IR at the rescue <<<
Sunjah replied to Francous's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok, just out of curioustity, how come NaturalPoint is selling TrackIR 4 for about $130, NaturalPoint = $130? and the same thing on Amazon is over $300 Amazon ^$300?? Are these different products? Am I seeing this wrong? -
Cool, thanks for the information! I know what you mean, I think I am going to like this game a real lot. The last few days I had kind of been getting frustrated by it (so touchy on the controls, she is!), but today I did the target range mission. I felt pretty good afterwards. Aside from crashing on landing, other things went pretty well. It was fun to take the airport camera (F11), and move it all the way to the target field. When I was out of VIKHR's, I went to the gun and started watching vehicles get blown up. I would arrange the vehicle on the SKHVAL targeting system, then go to F11, which I positioned right next to the vehicle. Then I would fire from my helicopter, so I saw all of this from standing right next to the trucks, and watched them BLOWED UP! real good!!! Then I got a beeping and I think I was being warned I was close to running out of gas. So I headed for home, with bad consequences. It was a fun misson for the most part. First time I flew it and actually felt like I accomplished something. Maybe my frustration is gone now. I just don't get why I couldn't hover above the airport at the end. I crashed...and died! I guess the answer with the rockets is to use them mostly from a slow-moving pitch, or be quite far away so they line up with targets. Thanks for the answers so far, guys, I will have to give these things a try.

Like many others here, I am slowly getting a (slight) handle on this beast whilst airborne. I am having trouble with some of the weapons commands/systems/functions. 1) How do you "Untarget" something that has been locked up and has a "C" meaning ready to fire? From what I've seen, hitting ESCAPE resets everything, but I'm having a hard time with thinking that I have to reset EVERYTHING simply to change my target. With the VIKHR missles, I got to the point where I did just reset, or caged then uncaged the SHKVAL again. 2) With guns, it was a bit more of a pain, unless it is so simple I am missing it. It kept saying "C," and when I pressed "Lock-up-Target," it didn't seem to really care or differentiate, except where the "q"-"auto hover to target" mode was engaged. The it usually did rotate to the target. I'm looking for a "lose-the-current-target-lock-reset-do-over-try-again" command (whew! that was a long one), but not the one that simply resets ALL SYSTEMS over again. Just "unlock-the-locked-target" one. 3) The one time I tried using the "unguided missles" (sorry, forgot their code), I was firing everything way over the head of the enemy. From where I was, if these things are completely unguided, then I would have had to dip my nose severely (and we all remember what happened to that beast on Enok 7). If I dipped my nose severely to line-up a shot, I will go forward very fast, not be able to shoot again because my hover is gone, fly very fast, spin side-to-side, go into out of control slides, apparently over-pitch or over-torque or something to where the blades have their outer halves pop-off (that is not fun to watch knowing you're still inside that dang! helicopter), then you crash, roll, explode, burn and die (one or all of the above). How can you shoot these rockets while hovering, but not dipping your nose to gain forward momentum (which, as illustrated above, can kind of lead to a life-shortening damper on the party)? Anyway, any help/ideas/comments/death threa..um, no; strike that one/useful tips or other colorful (but helpful, mind you!) statements will be well appreciated. By the way, does anyone else have a problem with F8 (enemy) view? Mine simply will not work. Fly safe!

I have to jump in and agree, these settings are fantastic compared to anything I've ever seen. They get much more clearer as you move in your view, where as normally they stay the same so the closer you get, they actually look a lot worse. I'm running 1440x900, and this cockpit looks incredible.

What would you have to edit of the *.lua files? Which file, I mean. Where is it located (I ask this because I would LOVE (love, love, love...all you need is love, everybody now:music_whistling:) to change the default F2 to a position where the SHIFT + F4 camera is by default (the arcade chase view, but using F2 spin around helicopter instead of camera moving). Also, is anyone having trouble with the F8 "enemy view." Mine simply will not work. I can watch missles go to them, but before I fire if I press F8, nothing happens.
-
Glad to see that someone else was able to share this before I could to help people out. After watching the 2nd training video, I jumped in and "Took Control." That is when I had the mouse view + mouse click active at the same time. It was awesome. As soon as I left the F1 view, it was gone (only had mouse click). After a bunch of trial and error, I found that the above formula works perfectly. Each time you go to F1 view, hit ESCAPE, then cancel, you have both working together, view + clicking. If anyone of the makers working on the game read this, please make this the default (or at least an optional) view. Hitting ESC everytime I jump back in to the F1 view is getting to be a real pain-in-the-neck. It would be so nice to have it so you can use MOUSE VIEW + MOUSE CLICK at the same time (without having to redo it each time). I know the upcoming patch is to FIX things, but if you ask me, this is a fix for something not working properly. Game is SO MUCH SMOOTHER when you can mouse view + mouse click the cockpit at the same time (for my Keyboard/Logitech Exteme 3D-PRO setup, anyway [ohh, how I want one of those $150 HOTAS controller pairs; no, be strong, can't affort right now; be strong!]). Thanks for this awesome game!!! Hmm, I wonder if there is a *.lua file that contains the default for this...someone put in a thread how to turn the pilot on as default (which I would prefer; it was getting annoying having to materialize him each time, too). I wonder if there is anything about "mouse view" "mouse click" and you can combine them both. I'm going in to give it a try...

Is there a way to see them ahead of time? I don't do multiplayer, so that's not a problem, but as of now I am guessing what they will look like. I have begun to change them via mission editor, but would love to know what each looks like beforehand.

Well said! -
I thought I was a stable hoverer, too, but lately I keep crashing. The nose of this things pitches up in a heartbeat! Congrats, though, I was there last Tuesday and was clapping aloud at my computer!

First fighter to be added to DCS: Black Shark?
Sunjah replied to Alexrey's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Absolutely understood, just future-talk. Glad to hear about the 9-10 month thing was real and I didn't imagine reading it (or read it for some other game I was planning on getting in the future). I was just reading reviews of Lock-On and Flaming Cliffs. I own Lock-On, but for some reason, never played that much. I am wondering if I skipped over a good game. I like Black Shark a lot, but I must admit I am getting a bit frustrated by the "twitchy-ness" and "extreme sensitivity" of the helicopter. I keep crashing, and I don't like that. Hopefully more practice will solve the problem. I am happy to see there will be more flyable aircrafts down the line, I just want to stand up and say F/A-18 is first on my list (though I'll take it at any given number). -

Ohhh, sweet! I love the AH-64! I understand this can't be known for sure, but I think I remember reading somewhere that it is hoped to be something like a 9-10 month cycle for each new add-on. Do you know if there is anything to that, close to that, or is there really no time-table at this point? -
No, this was not common knowledge to me! Thanks, I was really getting annoyed having to turn him on EVERY time I played. You are awesome!:)

Personally, I am very depressed that the F/A-18 Super Hornet is not present. I like that plane more than any other (carrier-landings are a blast!), and although F-15 Eagle is there, I still wish F/A- 18 Super Hornet was included. I also like the F-16 Falcon, and got somewhat of an appreciation for the MiG-29A Fulcrum. One I haven't played yet, but from the sounds of it I think I would like it, is the A-10A Thunderbolt. I suppose it's a good thing that is the first one, but I hope and pray that the F/A-18 joins the F-15 at some point (and me, being a carrier landing junkie, would love the F-14 Tomcat as well; love those retractable wings!). AH-64A Apache should be great, too!
