I second this one. I have it mapped to a button, but would still be nice to be able to edit to default view.

Well, I usually play with heat blur off. It would get pretty strong sometimes, but just taking off and flying for a bit there was no real heat blur. I guess you have to be going for a while. What I will do is keep playing with it on, and the first time I see a good sample I will screenshot it and post it here. It does get pretty wavy/blurry.

A good sign to be wary!:music_whistling:

There is a heat blur for sure. I will post a shot in a minute!

What's the best thing to do in this case. I have noticed after combat (okay, target practice, but I'm pretending...) and I close everything down, reset weapons, etc., that as I am flying home there is no speed listed. I have switched back to "Navigation" mode, and it was working earlier, all weapons are closed, but no speed. How do I get it back at that point? Ps- If you (or anyone who knows) could PM me with a solution that would be great! Thanks!!! (I sometimes forget which thread I put a question in, and sometimes the threads float off to bye-bye land [usually page 3 or higher], so I have such a pain finding the one I was interested in)

Me, too!!! :joystick::joystick::D:joystick::joystick: :megalol: :joystick::joystick::pilotfly::joystick::joystick::)

I wondered which to go for too, but I bought am X-52Pro at GoGamer.com for only $130. Lowest I could find it anywhere else was $165, so I was so happy to find the $130, only $40 more than the regular X-52 and from what I've read, I think that it is worth it. For the plunger guy, I'm glad you like it. I went with the Pro mostly because I've read the MFD is better and the "strength" (i.e., Longeviety) of the stick works better. I could not tell you because I have not tried the X-52 to compare it, but I know I love all these buttons!

Yes, it works quite nicely. I had this one for years, but have used gamepads a lot lately. When Black Shark came out I used this one (and yes, you can map all axes for whatever you would like), but then decided to go Saitek X-52Pro. I have never had a HOTAS (Hands-on-Throttle-and-Steering) setup before, and I am really enoying this one. If you fly for a while and like it, consider going HOTAS. I found that there were just not enough commands on the ExtremePro3D. Not that it is bad, but the other one has 3 Hat-switches (mine are 4-way, but you can program 8-function if you want to do so), 16 buttons, mouse-emulation (which works fairly well), a mouse wheel, a slider, a mouse-wheel-button, one of the 16 buttons is a two-stage trigger and it has an MFD which displays commands. Very cool. Then, it has a dial, you can program 3 completely different sets of commands from the list above by just switching the dial. I have "combat," "flight" and "Takeoff/Landing" as my 3 different sets. (Then, if you want to go sick-o [like this isn't already?], you can program the pinky-switch and the clutch from the 16 buttons to be a mode switcher, so you can have the dial represent 6 instead of 3 different modes, each with ALL commands above at your fingertips...actually, I suppose you could use both the pinky and clutch buttons and get 9 sets from the dial...ahhh, the possiblities) I enjoyed it with my ExtremePro3d...I LOVE it with my Saitek X-52Pro!

Is that why that happens? THANK YOU!!! As I started to read this thread, I thought, "Wow, I have to find out why those Auto-Pilot lights start blinking at takeoff!" For the original poster, I've found that it makes a world of difference to "re-trim" my helicopter right before take off. I read it was 7*, but I kind of feel like about 1/5-to-1/4 of the way is good. While on ground, after "Watch EKRAN" message, I press trim, push forward as stated (just so the helicopter does not roll forward yet), let trim go. This sets you up for a nice, clean takeoff. I usually "hover" take off, but if you put enough forward while doing the "re-trim," you will also have forward flight as you takeoff. That, and now knowing the reason for the blinking AP lights (sometimes they work perfectly, sometimes they blink and don't work), make for a good take off.

I would absolutely agree, save for one point. The beauty of "in-game" Black Shark footage is superior. I was trying to watch my landing, and would much rather see that from "in-game footage" than the tactical rendering of TacView. (Not sure if it is right, but my helicopter actually lands 10 feet BELOW the runway with TacView; might be how it is for everybody, but it makes it hard to learn from things like landings; for combat, flight, etc., it is great, but I still wish I could do things like watch [ONLY] my landing from "in-game footage".)

Given the choice, I actually like the first one much better. It would be cool to get the brighter yellow in there from the second, but I'd go with the first one.
-
Well, thank you then. It is advice I do not think I will follow, though. As I said, I was asking for how to set "default" trim (or if it is even possible), not "should I use trim-reset?"

Personally, I would say I qualify as a "Severe Disliker" of multiplayer. I come to the forums to learn and hear opinions, but I have yet to ever play a game that is multiplayer that I enjoy. From my standpoint, it is MMO's, not piracy, that has done the most to kill PC gaming. It is not dead yet, but when the CEO of EA says he will never again authorize a game that does not have an MMO component, that spells doom for the fun games, in my opinion. Thank goodness for Bethesda!

I would agree that you should be fine. I ended up buying a killer joystick (Saitek X-52Pro) simply because I am enjoying it so much, and so far the joystick is better than I thought it would be. I would also agree with most of what was said in the previous posts, but I highlighted Airway's because this community has been helpful. When I read that one, I just thought, "Yup, and they will help, too!" so I thought that was a good one to quote. Personally, even if it takes a while, I would suggest going 100% sim if you want to get good at it (and you enjoy sims vs. arcade games, even if you are just beginning). As another poster in another thread stated, "Using [game not sim] settings just sets you up with bad habits that you have to unlearn later, or the program just stays at an "arcade video-game" level. Totally your choice, but I always think it is better to play harder level (100% sim) and the time you spend learning & practicing WILL pay-off later. Either way (or 3 actually; 1. sim; 2. arcade; or 3. mixture), I would say this is the best $50 I have ever spent on a flight simulator. Excellent program!!!

Yeah, but there are some who have already said to me, "You shouldn't use outside views," to which I would respond, "It's not my fault you're willing to give up the wonder of this game's scenic beauty!" I would actually rather have a reset trimmer, but trimmed to the 7* or whatever it is. I like things customized to how I'd use it, and that would be a boon for me. I will keep an eye out to see if I can figure out, or hear something about how to do it. It might have been in the FAQ that I read that about sitting on the runway being default pitched differently than level flight (or taking off). I know that for a while, that nose-pitch-back-thing was driving me crazy when I first took off. By the way, , what are you talking about? We are all new to this game. It has been available for only a month or so (or only a couple if you went Russian). I think we are all still learning a lot. Well, maybe not the beta-testers, but I tend to think everyone else is still pretty new!

Okay, I know the "reset Trimmer" is really a type of cheat, they don't have it in the real Ka-50, but hey, we have it so I'm using it. My question is; can we "set" what it resets to when we use it? I read somewhere (a thread or the manual, can't remember) that the Ka-50 is trimmed differently when it is on the ground. Since I found that out, I have begun re-trimming it right before take off. First I press the trimmer button, then I push forward on the stick (but not enough to give it forward momentum, about 1/3 of the way forward), release the trimmer, and the helicopter still stays on the ground, but you can tell it is itching to "go forward." Then when I lift off, I don't have that ridiculous arching-back-with-nose-pointing-upward-nonsense. It has really made a world of difference for me, that little nugget of information. Now, my problem is when I am flying and hit reset trim for whatever reason, I get the same pitch-back-nose-way-up-in-the-air-thing. I have a feeling it is resetting to the default, what it was on the gorund before I "retrimmed" it for takeoff (really does make level and forward flight much easier, too). That is why I would love to establish the "take-off trim" setting as the baseline. So when I am coming to a stop in the air, and want the trim to reset, it won't go back to "runway" setting, but to my "take-off" trim setting. I know, it is not in the real chopper, but I haven't seen anything in the (beast of a) manual about it. Is it possible? Can I tell it what is the default "reset trimmer?" Thanks for any help. Ps- by the way, for those who are loving this sim, but still hate take-offs because of the wild-pitching, try this re-trimmer thing right before take off. You go straight up, or up and forward (depending on how much you pushed forward on the "re-trimming"), and I have found it makes a world of difference... ...so glad someone shared that information (I think it WAS a post, but I am not positive)

Hmm, okay. Maybe it isn't what I thought. As long as I get the last 10-15 minutes in viewable form, though, I'll be happy. I really want to study how I landed (did sort of an airplane landing, with helicopter cheating). The TacView is a great program, but it doesn't do it justice for something like this. TacView is great to see a tactical replay of your flight/combat, but I want a "real-{virtual}world" taping of my landing. I just can't learn what I need to from TacView on this.
-
I think this is going to be good. I told it to show me the last 15 minutes of an hour and 20 minute flight. It is in the "please wait" loading screen with the blue background and helicopter. I can hear all the sounds, I think it is going through (at a largely accelerated rate) to get to the point I told it I want to watch. Hopefully, really soon it'll be up!
-
You are awesome, thank you so much. I am going in now to try and find it. Yee-haw, now I can watch my landing!
-
Whoa, I didn't know that existed. Can you tell me where exactly I need to go to find it? That is exactly (or very, very close to exactly) what I was looking for.
-
Excellent! Now that is something I can really use. I did follow one of the posters' hint about the hydraulic system reading about 1/2 power, but I like this better. Would you know exactly what the rest of that indicator shows. I got the "B" for brake now, and I think I understand the y-axis, I'm a little unsure of the throttle but I think I get it. Does anyone have a diagram of what that "Controls Indicator" shows (or a really good written explanation)! Thanks again!
-
I've been trying to get used to clicking in the cockpit, but the wheel-brake is something I haven't found out yet where to control it. I know it is "w" and "L-Shift + w" to control it in keystrokes, but I can't find it in the cockpit. Basically, I am wanting to know if the brake is on before taking off and hovering. The hydraulics readout seems to indicate power is going to the brakes, but I cannot find some where that says (or shows or anything) "brake is on" "brake is off." Does anyone know how to tell if it is set or not?

Does anyone else find the tracks very hard to use? There is no interface at all except for speed up/down time. I just played a mission in which I very much wanted to watch my landing. I had to sit through the entire 20 minute mission to get to it. So instead, I just told it to accelarate time to about 7x. Problem was, as I was finishing up killing guys I tried to reset the time so I could watch the landing. NOPE! It just stayed at that accelerated time even though I pressed slow down and normal about 100 times. A bar at the bottom allowing to choose where to place the replay would help so much. I don't think anyone who wants to see the end of the mission (landing, shot from unknown, whatever) would really want to have to sit through the whole mission. Obviously, speeding up time is not an answer. I was screaming at my computer to stop and it sped through the landing at about 7x normal speed. It was pointless even watching it. (Don't get me wrong, I still love the game, but I just find the replay system "user UN-friendly." That TacView is great, but you don't see the in-game beauty of Black Shark.)

Not really sure I understand. The *.bmp files are there for a lot of helicopter skins (I definitely saw "Black Shark," "Werewolf," "Black with yellow stripes {my personal favorite}," in there. They weren't named, though, so maybe "Desert3 = Werewolf." That is the connection I am not seeing anywhere, to prove or disprove this theory. Who knows? I have 30 I can use now, would love more, and hope there is a "Dragon" skin and a "Night Mission" skin. The more the better I always say!
