Turning off irritating zoom out at start?
smallberries replied to imacken's topic in DCS Core Wish List
If you hit zoom in the instant it starts....it stops. Hitting slow zoom in and then enter are just a part of my startup sequences :P Would be nice if it just died in a fire, though. -
Honestly, if you're looking for smooth, the WH isn't the upgrade you are looking for, although (long) extensions can hide it's failings in that regard. I had a short 3" or so extension and it wasn't enough to hide the stiction for me, and I polished and lubed my base 2x. I eventually stuck my WH grip on top of a VKB base and the difference is quite noticeable, and I no longer use an extension. Also, the VKB can be adjusted with the different cams and springs available (an assortment comes with it) so you can adjust how much center detent and how much return force the stick has. If you have the itch to upgrade, I would strongly suggest considering either it or the Virpil, instead of the WH. Sure, the WH grip is nice for A-10C, but if you fly other modules then you'd be just as well off with the MCG grip that comes with VKB, or with whatever Virpil has.

So my updater installed 2.5 just fine, but wants to re-download 36G of modules....including my 2.2 terrains....is this correct behaviour? I thought it would just be copying 2.2 material over.... And yes, afaik my 2.2 was utd

Weird, the forum is formatting out my returns o.0

I think you'll need to manually edit your drive:\USERS\username\SAVEDGAMES\DCS\CONFIG\options.lua, and change the monitor back to another file for the moment. You will perhaps have to edit a .lua to reflect your particular situation, OR you need to adjust your screen size at the same time as using the lua that corresponds to your setup. In any case, if you don't already know, to edit a lua you shouldn't use notepad, it can bung up the file. Grab Notepad++, a free download, and a superior program anyways. In the options.lua there will be a setting for "multimonitorsetup" that indicates the name of the .lua, such as "camera+LMFCD", and you can change that back to the stock camera lua until you get yourself sorted. I have been there myself a couple of times. You'll have to play around until you figure it out. P.S. The height and width values in the same section of the options.lua set your overall screen size, which should be the total of your monitor and mfd. For instance, for me, with a 2560x1440 monitor, and 2 800x600 MFDs below it, my setting for width is 2560 still (both MFDs exist within the overall width of 2560, as they total 1600), but my height is 2040, as they add to it.

They weren't assumptions with regards to the crash from the main menu settings. They were facts that I sadly repeated several times, and also had confirmation from another user(s?) in the forums. It's hard to *mistake* a CTD. But anyhoo...

2 quirks are that DCS likes controls to be bound in a mission rather than from the main menu settings....and I have found that binding a lot of keybinds all at once can be dicey, or at least I think I solved it by binding only a few at once. Or it was spitting over my shoulder, not sure.

DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!

So, I can has? -
Since Nvidia decided to be dicks and insist on an internet login to use GeForce Experience, I have stopped using it and shadowplay. With an upgrade to Win10, I started using Windows game-thingy to do my recording and it seems to do a fine job, although the screenshots get saved in a weird format. But the video seems just fine. No gotchas, except it might not have recognized DCS as a game until I included it iirc. I am not sure if it recognized DCS as a game first time, and I might have had to include it.

Mission 10 DCS CTD when landing at outpost
smallberries replied to smallberries's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I am on 1.5.8 fwiw. And got the same crash just prior to landing at the outpost, seems to happen at around 50-100' AGL. -
I should have mentioned it's the UN campaign...Just wondering if this is a known bug, I ran the mission 3 times and after picking up the General the client crashes when I try to land at the first outpost. I'll try to replicate again tonight.

Building a new rig, any advice?
smallberries replied to gabgio's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you aren't going SLI, and I don't know why anyone would, you will be fine with an 850W PSU...and as for GPU with your monitor you would be fine to get your 60 frames with a 900 series...I wouldn't get anything better if it means spending more money. I'd also suggest to wait for the new Ryzens coming this quarter before you make up your mind, both to gauge their performance and see Intel's response. I'm gettin 4Ghz out of my 1700x and I'm a noob overclocker, I expect it won't be hard to get some pretty competitive performance out of AMD's Ryzen 2s. I have the Kraken X62 and not sure I would get it again, if only because it required me to purchase a USB splitter to put in my case. There are other perfectly good coolers out there. -
Thanks everyone for the responses. My main concern was being able to view the map, so being able to put that on one of the DDIs is pretty good info. Maybe later I'll get a 3rd lilli and stick the MPCD somewhere on my desk. Fun fact, I already have the extra Cougars, because Amazon didn't warn me that they come 2 to a package ^^

Hi everyone, I have 2 external MFDs but would have to do some serious surgery on my setup to accommodate a 3rd. I was wondering if any of you are in the same boat, and maybe have a better understanding of how important use of the 3rd MFD in the Hornet will be? Can we get by working with only 2, or will we really want the 3rd?

Yeah, when I did have 2 groups flying with each other they had almost identical waypoints throughout. As I developed the mission I tested it several dozens of times, tweaking it for various reasons, and the bombers worked perfectly. Ran it on my buddies server so we could mp it, and there were these glitches. Second group did 20 minutes of circles around the airfield it took off from. So I scrapped the whole mission, and tried rebuilding it from scratch only simpler, 1 bomber group of 3. One of the hallmarks of the mission is a solid cloud layer the attackers fly through, most of the dogfighting happens just above the cloud layer, and then the bombers descend to drop their ordinance, and RTB. But the bombers weren't ascending. Checked their weight, eased the flight path, but they wouldn't climb past 750m ASL. I would see them pitch up to climb, and immediately nose down and level off at the waypoints. Scrubbed the group to 1 bbr and it followed the route. 2 bbrs, no problem. But 3? Something is up with the AI...

I just was practicing Mavs, used em and went guns-guns. Dove in at a ridiculous angle while I was still trying to remember how to switch to AG guns, finally got it, by which time I had to steepen the dive, and pulled up viffing and pegging 8G, clearing a hangar by probably less than 20 feet. An 8G air bounce. Try *that* in your fancy schmancy F-18 :-) You'll love it!

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has an idea how I can get over a little hurdle. I've made a couple of versions of a little escort mission for some B-17s across the channel, and it seems that flight paths which I have given them, and made a point of making fairly gentle, don't actually get followed correctly all of the time. It seems like it may be correlated with how many bombers are in a group. I have seen 1 and 2 bombers correctly follow a route, but add a 3rd and they stop climbing. I have seen in various iterations of the exact same mission groups of 3 bombers either correctly follow a flight path or just take off from an airfield and do circles, ignoring the flight path. At one point I had 2 groups of 3 bombers take off :30 apart. Sometimes it worked flawlessly, and groups of 4 escorts would take off after and the whole mission went on its merry way, and sometimes the second bomber group with escorts would arrive at bullseye 25 minutes after the first. So, are there tricks or is it just a bit buggy atm? Is it Normandy, the B-17s, or something else? It isn't loadout weight, and again if I reduce the group to 1 bomber it flies the route just dandy. With formations on or off, it seems not to matter, pilot skill also...

Personally, I think of how inexpensive the modules are, given how long they take to make. How many DCS players are there? Maybe several thousands? Maybe there's a lot more than it seems, but I suspect nobody is getting super rich making DCS modules. Thanks to those people who do!

Also, when you consider a new PSU, you have to aim higher than what you actually expect your power draw to be. One way to go might be to go to pcpartspicker.com and design an ideal build, something you think you might afford in a year or whatever. The site will give you a required wattage. Then, when you go to get a PSU to match your new GPU, you need to aim higher than that amount, ideally by nearly double, although to save money it certainly doesn't have to be, but PSUs are most efficient operating at around 50% capacity, fwiw. I honestly can't remember atm if I have a 750 or 850, but I think my expected draw was around 450W. A PSU, like a monitor, will last you through more than 1 build, most likely, so it's nice to get quality, imo.
