  1. Lol, we won't hold you to it, but something to hope for
  2. Yes, thank you. With the F-18 and F-14 coming, we need the boom operators sorted out.
  3. The A should have a slightly higher top speed than the B, but the B will be much easier to master. I hope they are released together, I want to learn on the A then learn the B. http://www.ausairpower.net/PDF-A/engines.pdf
  4. Is there a general assumption that this will come with the F-18? Or is it separate, or do we not know anything at all about the release date other than 'when it's ready'? This map will be a ton of fun, mostly excited about carrier ops in the Tomcat, but you could even have Israeli F-15's appear west of the strait, hit a tanker and then bomb a nuclear facility etc, the possibilities are endless. Also, sandstorms, ED, we will need sandstorms.
  5. You guys rock. I've been using your mods for some time now, so well done.
  6. I just read about 7 pages of this thread and it describes exactly the problems I incur on Normandy and occasionally in my favorite missions in NTTR. In a way good to know it affects 1.5.7 as well since a fix for one will be a fix for all. I haven't fired up the game in a month because of it, hope there is a fix really soon.
  7. Thanks for the response BlackLion, I am really looking forward to getting to know all the Cat's sweet and sour spots. Buzzles, shonist, when I first started, I played for the first month with twist rudder, then I bought Saitek pedals and added curve and deadzone to my stick, whole new game, the planes came to life.
  8. After reading the article it would seem like maybe the maneuvers, like the following reported 77 deg AoA in the video, won't be possible? Is anyone on the test team yet been able to pull off maneuvers we know the Tomcat did? What is the maximum G pulled so far? (I'm sure you guys use Tacview or your own internal recording system). Has anyone attempted one of the Cat's famous and very fast 360 deg sea level turns? I'm glad to hear that it will take time to master and that it will feel like the raw analog fighter it is (I'm finally going with the VKB Pro extension to maximize immersion), but I also hope that one day I can maybe pull that 12.2G symmetrical that Hoser Satrapa told us about. Or the 10G break Muczynski pulled over the Med. Or the multiple 8-9G turns we know about. Or after a decent amount of training, feel like Major Farhad of the IRAF when he said “The capability of the F-14A to snap around during the dogfight was unequaled.... After only 100 hours of training, I learned to pitch the nose of my Tomcat up at a 75-degree angle of attack in just over a second, turn around, and acquire the opponent either with Sidewinders or the gun.” Or I could be wrong and some of you Heatblur boys are already hotrodding it and not telling us :joystick: (Video starts at relevant point) https://youtu.be/OeClwAksqOI?t=240
  9. When I was at Evergreen I was told that there were some financial troubles and that several planes were being sold, the P-51, Corsair and the B-17 if I recall correctly, but at that time (a few months ago) nothing about closing down.
  10. There were some of VX-4 on a modeling site (as in planes), but the person chose the dark path of photobucket and they're gone. I think the Block 90's used them too.
  11. The RIO role is looking very interesting the more I learn about the backseat.
  12. I've recently been listening to the audiobook version of the 'Topgun Days' book by Bio and I actually am looking forward to learning and playing as RIO just as much as being a pilot. I think my friends and I will adopt a 'take turns' approach to which seat we fly in.
  13. Lots of good info here, hope someone else can also make use of all this too. Currently the mod is set to start in 2000, but the next version will go back to 1991. Even though there aren't many A2A only CV aircraft, I'm still giving that category it's own tech tree. The mod will also give the squadrons their correct names aka VF-101 'Grim Reapers', as the base game just gives them a default name like 'squadron 1'. I did not know the F-8 did A2G though. Thanks for all this info guys.
  14. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss any, my cursory research wasn't turning any up and I knew I could get good feedback here. Yeah, such is the needs of carrier air wings that multi-role makes the most sense. I'll go with those two and can easily add any later if needed. Thanks
  15. I'm helping with a sub mod for the Millennium Dawn mod for the strategy game Hearts of Iron IV and am looking to make a carrier fighter tech tree. Currently the F-14 is in the 'multi-role' tech tree and this causes a problem with the F-18's -insert long story-. (I know the F-14D late in her career would be considered multi-role) So among planes that were active from 1970 to the 2000's, besides the F-8 and the Tomcat, what NATO/Warsaw planes were pure fighters/interceptors? Was there a variant of the F-4 that was air to air only? Do all versions of the Mig-29K and SU-33 have multi-role capability? Was there an air to air only Sea Harrier? Thanks for any help
  16. Haha I know the Tomcat pilot can launch all weapons, so that is comforting, I'm really curious how it will be interacting with Jester as to what is on radar, where they are, direction etc etc. God I hope Heatblur has really good voice actors.
  17. Have you read the entire 'How is F-14 maneuverability?' thread? Specifically every post by people like, say for example, Lunaticfringe? Here they are  https://forums.eagle.ru/search.php?searchid=15866780&pp=25&page=2 Back on topic I'm feeling that the F-14 will be at a disadvantage when being played solo vs Flaming Cliffs fighters, however with two humans who know their roles well, no competition. That extra set of eyes alone is massive in a dogfight. I will have a real human RIO eventually, but he won't be playing every time I am. I often jump on during the day and do missions solo vs the AI, I'm just wondering how the F-14 will be, will it be competitive and fun being played that way?
  18. I had a group of 8 guys playing DCS with me, we were rocking and rolling for several months, doing carrier quals with a greenie board and everything... until the latest graphical stuttering issues have killed them off 1 by 1, they're all waiting on the 14 and 18 and fixes now, but I'm still making missions and playing alone for now. That being said, only 1 of those 8 was willing to be a RIO, everyone wants to be a pilot. RIO's will be the hottest thing since 1/72 F-14A models were after Top Gun hit the theaters :megalol:
  19. I was thinking about what it will be like flying the Tomcat and not having total control over the radar/electronic side of the fight like we've (or at least me) become used to while flying the F-15. I spend a lot of my focus pre-merge/WVR working the radar and the contacts; adjusting to this being done by the Jester AI or another player will be a big change. Thinking out loud, will there be a function to switch seats with the AI, say 80NM out and going for a Phoenix kill? Just wanted to see what others thought about this different role as a pilot. :joystick:
  20. I fixed it by deleting the mods from Eagle Dynamics/DCS World 2 Open Alpha/mods (I'd forgot to do that) when I moved them to Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/mods and restarted my PC. Cheers for the help
  21. Thanks for the responses. So yeah I already had them in my saved games folder, in the Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/mods pathway, but not as this user mentioned here https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3215163&postcount=10 in the Saved Games/DCS/mods, also I forgot to delete them from the primary mods folder that I had been using. So I am about to delete those and try again with them remaining in Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/mods, if that doesn't work I will put them in Saved Games/DCS/mods. And yes I do have them in their correct aircraft and tech folders. Brb. It works now, I will update the op to make sure to say to delete the mods from Eagle Dynamics/DCS World 2 Open Alpha/mods when you move them to the saved games. Thanks guys.
  22. Update, I'm reading that everyone has lost the ability to use mods with the latest update'? Is this true?
  23. Hi all, just updated and my mods stopped working, I was getting the msg in the mission load screen that I am missing mods, that I have. I copied my entire 'aircraft' and 'tech' folders to my saved games/mods folder, still getting the message. Is this what others are experiencing? I'm late to the update just for reasons like this, but this evening I decided to join the mess.
  24. Just updated to the latest and it is giving me this when I try to start a mission I was just playing before the update I have always just put my mods in the mods folder and never had a problem, but after this I put them in my saved games mod folder per this post here https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3209766&postcount=10 and I'm still getting the message, any ideas or is there a known fix for this? Thanks Fixed by deleting the mods from Eagle Dynamics/DCS World 2 Open Alpha/mods when you put them in Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/mods and restart your PC.
  25. I'm mentally prepping here, I may try to do a version of this when the F-14 is out. I found something that may be of help https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/threads/custom-homemade-flight-simulator-dcs-control-switchboard.120422/
