  1. Thanks for the warning. I NEVER accept a new update anymore, I usually wait and watch the carnage on here for a few weeks and then install once they update the update.
  2. Keep exiting and restarting DCS and spamming login, can get in 1 in 5 tries, once in though you're good.
  3. This is my plan, but I would throw money at someone making a Tomcat stick.
  4. I've been wanting to have British, Canadian, Austrailian, NZ, Norwegian etc infantry and for them to have access to all the NATO equipment. Same goes for countries like Pakistan, Iran with Warsaw Pact etc. Does this exist or does anyone know how I could make one?
  5. Or the JTAC isn't in the TOC and the unit who owns the AO is who you talk to, usually the S2 NCO via the RTO, possibly the Battle Captain or Battle NCOIC, or FIRES, but in my case it was me, the S2 NCO. Mine was a scout recon unit and we had a 8 man intel section and ran COISTs as well (Company Intelligence Support Team), which put intel assets in the line companies directly. 60% of the controls by JTAC were Type II from the TOC in OIF and when they weren't there the S2 took over. We learned on the job pretty much. There were nights when I was doing air deconfliction for a Predator, a Scan Eagle, an AWT, CAS out of Baghdad and anything else coming in or out of the FOB from the TOC. I was trained to 'Find, Fix and Finish' enemy elements on the ground either supporting from the TOC or embeded in a ODA driven TF, not air deconflictions and CAS control, but I did it. When outside the wire I had a toughbook that gave me feeds of any UAV in the AO and in those situations I did no CAS control, just directing the UAVs. In Indian Country the schoolhouse scenarios go out the window and you just make it happen, so there is a wide range of scenarios that can be used in DCS that are realistic. I've been working on a couple of missions that kinda mimic some of the things I experienced, play testing internally and will share soon. The biggest enemy in Iraq of air assets, MEDEVAC especially was the weather. MEDEVAC status RED happened all the time. Hopefully with the new Gulf map we get some dust storm weather to play with.
  6. Just now seeing this, nice mod! Does anyone know of a mod that adds infantry for the UK and Aus/NZ?
  7. Exactly, this is why my friends and I don't feel guilty for using a labels mod I made, it makes the actual spotting dynamic more realistic, but yes you lose realism by having an artificial blue/red ^ on an aircraft and a - on ground units. No text, just that. They are small, but again it nerfs the '1440p vs your eye' situation if you know what I mean. I know this won't help on MP servers, but it works for single player and groups of friends playing together. If anyone is interested in trying it out, put this in your users/yourname/savedgames/dcs.openalpha/config/view folder it only loads after your labels file so it doesnt overwrite it, you can just delete if you don't like it. 8. I plan on spending the day there soon, I will do my best to remember and ask about that.
  9. I would read every post by the users Hummingbird and LunaticFringe on the F-14. Most of the good ones were in debates in older threads that I went back and read. A detailed treatise on the high maneuverability on the Tomcat could be constructed using their posts (and accompanying documentation) alone.
  10. Thanks guys, glad everyone likes them. Robert, I had the exact same sensation when I climbed up there, she is so wide and huge, you can just see how she gets so much lift, the low wing load of the Tomcat just screams out at you.
  11. This is amazing!
  12. Oh wow another one? Will do thanks for the tip!
  13. I agree, I have no idea why the F-14D is outside at Evergreen. Oregon is rainy and cloudy 7 months out of the year, so it is perpetually wet, then from June to September it is exceptionally bright and can get in the 90s to 100s.
  14. The Evergreen museum does not list all the holdings on their website, I thought I was going to see an F-105, a B-17 and the Spitfire lol. It is a really nice facility, two large buildings, movie theater (food too I think) with documentaries etc. You could spend all day there, justifying a long trip. I didn't even get many photographs of the space relics, I ran out of time!
  15. I feel very fortunate, I've only lived in Oregon a few years, had no idea these were here until recently, they are both in rural areas.
  16. I visited the F-14A at the Tillamook museum last month and then the F-14D at Evergreen Air and Space museum more recently and I wanted to share this here (I'd posted these in other threads before, but those don't get a lot of other views. Obviously there were quite a few other reasons to visit Evergreen ;) Also where else in the world is there a Mig-29 sitting next to an F-14D? 17. I've been in love with this sexy turkey for 31 years. I was 13 when the Tomcat made Tom Cruise famous. I'm putting together my first 1/48 scale F-14 in over 10 years. Can't. Wait. This has had to be fun for the Heatblur guys to research and make and now test.
  18. Not to mention that 600kn 12.2 G turn at Nellis that the TACTS range recorded. To quote Hoser "The TACTS range recorded 12.2 g's symmetrical during a Guns 'D' break. The high 'g' hurt Hill Billy's neck and he was was out of the hunt for a few days. We had the brand new Blk 90 Turkey x-rayed, inspected and gone over by a team of Grummanites...... not a lose rivet, zero skin wrinkles, perfect engine mounts, no hyd or fuel leaks; Just a broke RO. NAVAIR kept slapping new 'g' restrictions on the Turkey cause they figured them to last 100yrs. Hell, they would have lasted a hunnert and fifty years with a symmetrical 9.5 'g' guidance doctrine." Grumman flight tested the F-14 to 13 G's without any problems, so yeah, the turkey better be strong.
  19. Yep, I had just bought a 1070 to play it on 1440p. Before that I was playing on a 50" screen with a GTX780 at 1080 and it was working great. I then began playing on this 32" 1440p with the 1070 at max settings, and I mean max. Solid and steady whether it was Caucasus or NTTR. I enjoyed that for about 4 weeks then 2.1 hit. Now I can play some missions in NTTR with settings much lower than I really want, but some missions won't play without really severe stuttering and I can't do anything in Normandy except fly a single plane with nothing else in the map. I hope we get a real optimization update soon. I was playing nightly with 3-4 of my friends and now we haven't together played since, only I have kept looking for a way to make it playable. :(
  20. This incident is a perfect lesson of what can happen in combat. Whether it is ground combat (I witnessed physics by ordnance and rounds in Iraq that most people would describe as impossible) or air. A F4U could down a F-22 in a specific set of circumstances, an 8 year old sticking an AK over a dirt wall and blind firing could kill a SFOD hitter. Is he a better warfighter than the man he killed, does the US need to start fielding 8 year olds with AK-47s?

  22. Thanks for the heads up, I did post there earlier this week, those guys are running 1080 and I'm 1440. I was maxed at 1440 prior to the update with no problems, I've come way down on my settings and still getting tripped up in Normandy. I did try his settings, though not the most recent ones. Played a mission in NTTR last night and it ran much better with the same settings I have in my video, Normandy is still stuttering really bad. I'm about to try his most recent settings tonight, for lack of anything else I can think of. Probably will need the next big update to sort it all out.
  23. Gotcha, I just wouldn't know where to start ha, no DCS modding experience, well, labels don't count. Since they are such popular mods hopefully they will get fixed soon? I do like the instrument reflections, it's just the glare from the exterior that needs toned down. I opened those fixed MIG-29 files just now in Gimp and yeah, I wouldn't even know where to start.
