I swear I never saw the word "Steam" in the Wags post 5 minutes ago...but it is :D Cheers.

Am I missing something? I can't see the sale anywhere. According to Wags it started yesterday, but I can't hide nor hair of it,
-
There is usually something DCS in one of the Steam sales in the year. As far as on here they can pop up for 24/48 hours, or be several weeks. The long sales usually appear on here around the same time as the Steam sale (usually before or after). Keep an eye out for new ED aircraft, a sale sometimes be seen around the same time. I usually check the forum news section (as someone pointed to above) once a day just in case. I tend to use sales to pickup aircraft I might not even fly, or if I do it's only briefly. I just see it as a way of supporting DCS and keeping my collection growing without spending far too much.

If you are talking about what is in the scripts then servers can check those as you try and join. If it's something else then I suggest you use the support page: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/ http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ru/support/ http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/de/support/ Whichever best fits your language skills.

Can we have different levels of G tolerance in DCS?
DTWD replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS Wishlist
This was discussed many moons ago, where each plane would be persistant and every flight, engine start etc. put wear on something and that increased it's chances of failure in a mission, especially if it hadn't been maintained. Something like that would be great in a persistent world, but we need that first. I used to play a "game" called Steal Battalion, it was a mech game that involved blowing things up and things trying to blow you up. If your mech got damaged you had to pay to have it repaired/replaced from the proceeds of the mission. If it was destroyed you had to make sure you ejected before it exploded otherwise your character died and that meant the mission failed...and it deleted your save game. Adding depth away from the simulation like what the OP is suggesting isn't a bad thing I don't think. As people have said you could put a tick in a box, like you can with invulnerability, that circumvented it for you. But I wouldn't mind more, I wouldn't mind a training cycle where you progressed from single props to fast jets via trainers in the middle, where you had to build up yours hours before you got to fly the missions proper. Of course you could always make your own missions, or "quick action" to circumvent this, but it would add to the offline single player aspect. Even more with the aforementioned persistence in the world. It's about adding depth to the world of DCS so that it's not just an empty sandbox, but a living breathing world that you want to come back to and don't want to leave in case you miss something. -
Then you won't be able to do it with Target. What's wrong with using target?
-
I will take a look tonight, do you have a preference on which button you wish to use?
-
If you have the Warthog you could easily program that with Target. I suspect you might be able to do it with the Saitek software as well, although it's been a while since I used it.

I "built my own" headset out of a nice set of Sennheiser's, a clip on mic and an Astro Mix amp. Together it will be out of your price range, but the Astro converts optical to analogue, as well as amping the sound for headphones, allows me to connect mic's directly to it (along with a cable back to the PC if I want to use the proper sound card in the PC) and allows me to mix between voice comms and game output. The biggest plus though is that that I could connect it to my Xbox and my PC and use XBL chat and PC comms (although not all at the same time).

Custom switch panel - Just a quick question...
DTWD replied to DTWD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Cheers chaps. Can any of these emulate keyboard button presses? I wanted to setup a small set of buttons to emulate the F keys. -
Custom switch panel - Just a quick question...

Great responses, cheers guys. It will get me going in the right direction. -
I can't remember if I have chimed up in this thread before, but I have been keeping an eye on it for weeks now. I am loving what you are doing and that last message has sold it for me, definitely going to be purchasing a set. Now my question is, and I may have missed this, would it be feasible to completely rebuild the Warthog? I am thinking specifically the throttle, I mean a whole new shell and internals, but yet still be a Warthog as far as the software goes? The reason I am thinking this is that my throttle has just started playing up. Within a few hours I have lost the push button facility on the thumb hat, the slider (big grey thing) has started spiking and not reaching 100% and the pinkie toggle switch has gone all floppy and no longer works. In short, if you are using better switches in what you are doing, maybe extending that to a full retrofit would be worth looking at? I believe, although I have never had a problem in that area, the ball in the bottom of the joystick that everything pivots on can crack/break. Maybe a few well made/strong versions of those would sell as well?

Warthog throttle problems, spikes and floppyness...
DTWD replied to DTWD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Quite old, 3 or so years for a guess. I honestly can't remember, but it's been a long time as far as warranties go. I suppose there is nothing to lose in raising a ticket. -
Hello, I was was doing some gaming today and all of a sudden the throttle slider (for zooming) started spiking. The LED's are already off but it won't go all the way to max (goes about 95%) and wobbles at full and middle positions. Also, the pinkie switch on the left hand side of the throttle has gone all floppy and won't work. I am imagining I am going to need some spare parts, so does anyone know what the switch, and I assume, potentiometer is?

Just migrate, it will be better in the long run. I just buy the modules whereever the deal is better, because getting the key out of steam and adding it to your dcs account is a doddle.
-
Errr, yes.
-
What market is this idea serving? I don't know about others here, but I buy modules in the sale and never fly them, I just like the idea I can if I wish and because they are in the sale I don't feel like it's wasted money. Obviously this is a western Europe take on it, I appreciate in certain areas of the world a £10 sale item is a LOT of money.

To clarify, if you don't go OEM it will be expensive. I think you would qualify for OEM with a new Mac. You may find home premium full retail knocking around, but I haven't found one from a reputable reseller in a while. I wouldn't trust a license from a 3rd party seller on the likes of Amazon and eBay.

I don't think you can officially get Windows 7 oem anymore. The ones you find on the bay may not be 100% legit. I don't have any experience with W8 in a gaming environment, but I don't see why you would have any problems. If you can wait, or stick with 8 for a few months, you will be rewarded with free 10, which looks to be back on form.

An expensive 'PC' vs a slate/tablet/surface and the old Nokia brand, that's not really a fair comparison is it? To the op, is Garage Band a requirement? It's just it's going to be an expensive setup just to play DCS and use GB. In the long run a medium powered Mac laptop and a medium powered Windows PC would probably give you more bang for your buck. Especially if you build your own PC.

Clever, good use of space.

Multi-monitor - viewports and Track IR questions
DTWD replied to DTWD's topic in Multi-Monitor Support
Anyone finding this in the future, DCS World Version 1 apparently doesn't allow you to do any of this. You can use different cameras on different screens, which can be accessed via the 3 cameras option in the menu. The associated file can also be edited to be tweaked, but not to an extent that allows me to do what I want. It also added a second (or third if you leave it as default) camera to the game which adds a performance hit, this is along with the performance hit for having the game run in windowed mode. -
Multi-monitor - viewports and Track IR questions
DTWD replied to DTWD's topic in Multi-Monitor Support
Viewports should be snap views -
Morning all, I am in the middle of looking at this and have got my multimonitor setup working, however I have a few questions. What I am aiming to do is: Have 1 monitor as the main cockpit or hud view that Track IR would interface with and then have the second monitor display customised views that I can change. However my questions are: Is it possible to setup custom snap view for each monitor separately? So I could could my main screen in the default cockpit view, or a zoomed HUD view and have the other looking at the dials, or another view? Is it possible to control those snap views so I can change them independently while in flight? So for instance I might want to look at the map, but have that displayed on monitor 2 while monitor one continued to display the cockpit. And then switch monitor two to an MFD or an external view, or another panel in the cockpit. You get the idea. Have Track IR function only on one monitor, so I would keep monitor 1 in cockpit view and look around with that, but monitor two's snap view would remain static. Many thanks.
