AI cheating behavior. Taking all the fun out.
dmatsch replied to robban75's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
^^ This ^^ We all know that ED has to make money by releasing new stuff in order to have the proper revenue to fix the old stuff. However, the existing software is becoming unusable as anything more than just a fly-around-look-at-stuff simulator and not the COMBAT simulator it reports to be. Do we really need cows? New stuff? How about instead of a new aircraft ED releases a new "AI" module with intelligent ATC, AWACS, JTAC, a realistic NPC AI, carrier ops, JESTER AI, CIV air traffic, and a living breathing dynamic battle environment and campaigns? I'd pay $70 for that. -
Thank you Rudel

where could I find templates like this for Caucus or NTTR?

how else are you going to know if you hit the cows or not?

I just read about a bunch of radio static filters as a plug-in for Audacity. I was also thinking of just downloading some random radio chatter from youtube and adding those as background. I've found that it's not just as simple as recording someone reading from a script. If you listen to real air communications, they have they're own special cadence that's kind of hard to match from voice actors. Luck to you.

No wonder the only way I can get rid of my old cards is to cast them into the fires from whence they came!

And they say Air Force Pilots have no Humor...
dmatsch replied to MemphisBelle's topic in Military and Aviation
no, I think it thoroughly proves that they were NOT issued said sense of humor. (USAF vet here) -
I didn't know you could click through the warning lights. Good info. I'll also try binding left/right lean to mouse buttons. Also good info. Thanks.
-
The center UFC covers up the left-most buttons on the right MPCD and the right-most buttons on the left MPCD. I have to bind the "lean left" and "lean right" controls to see them, losing a control spot on my HOTAS. I don't do VR yet, and no Track-IR, so this makes the workload a bit harder when you're being shot at. Anyone else see this? I don't see it being reported at all, so I must have some setting incorrect. I've tried to upload a screnshot from Chuck's guide, page 8. Don't know if that worked, but just click the link and go to page 8.

when the sewing machine gets fixed?

my biggest fear is that both the entire flight sim (as in study simulations) as well as the desktop PC industries are going the way of the dinosaur and manual transmissions. We may all begrudgingly one day have to give up our virtual birds. I wish you the best, Lucky

I just re-played this mission last night. Sorry, I didn't save a track. I don't have a lot of free time to re-play missions over and over. Both of the 14s where shot down by the MiGs before I got to WP3. I had no air cover whatsoever, nor did they try to defend themselves beyond maneuvering. By the time the MiGs got to my flight (WP3), they still had a nearly-full complement of missiles to deal with me. They came in so fast, I barely had time to switch to AAQ. Both 9Ms missed. I really think the AI from the core game is borked and not this mission.

thanks everyone for the information. It was my assumption that since we were all from the same carrier, the 14s would provide air cover for an inbound strike package. Knowing now that they don't care about me at all will definitely NOT have me buying them a beer at the O-Club.

udpate: there's even a SEAD flight of an 18 with HARMs! This guy doesn't do his job either. He just returns to the carrier.

I'm at work, so apologies for the lack of details. In the new set of single F-18 missions in Wednesday's update, the very last one, called "O" something. It's a Caucus interdiction where you have to take out some parked helos at an airbase. The F-14's who are supposed to supply CAP, don't do a thing. They're even carrying AIM-54's! I keep getting blasted by a group of 4 MiG-28's -- I mean, MiG 29s. This isn't the first mission where the AI just "do their own thing", no matter what the ME settings. Anyone else?

figures. I'm busy the whole weekend. No stick time for me

the only way to currently do this is to set a zone on the disembark point and activate your hidden and inactive troops when the boat hits it.

there are a ton of posts scattered around the forums on the current state of the AI, which seems to be miserably broken on a great many fronts, with a few of the issues being carried over from core 1.5 and into 2.x and having nothing to do with the modules. However, I'm not seeing a great number of posts in this forum for all these. What's ED take on all these AI issues people seem to be having? This really is making the simulation unplayable for anything but free flight. I understand they need to make a buck on the early access items, but they also need to fix them once they go into official release.

Request: Improvement of the Loadout Screen of the Mission Editor
dmatsch replied to Flagrum's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It would also be nice to have a quick link to the encyclopedia so we know what kind of weapons we're loading, and if any pods have to go with them. I keep forgetting what the differences are between all the Russian ordnance. -
I'm getting dizzy here...

hey! corny jokes are reserved for the OP. It's in the terms. did you miss that when you signed up? :-) I really thank you all for your responses. I guess I'm going to just have to try one out.

if you look in your missions folder, there will be a mission labeled "mg.miz". this one is the last-generated mission. You can use this as a template. Find a good instant action mission, then use this file to improve it.

I'd love to venture into VR but the threat of motion sickness is killing it for me. I really don't want to have to force myself to play to overcome any inner ear miscommunications. I also don't want to take Dramamine every time I play a game. It would then cease to be a fun activity. How are the opinions on this? Has anyone had to abandon the VR rig or reduce playable time because of this? Thanks in advance to everyone who responds.

My wife accused me of covertly assembling an aircraft from the inside-out.
