  1. udpate: there's even a SEAD flight of an 18 with HARMs! This guy doesn't do his job either. He just returns to the carrier.
  2. I'm at work, so apologies for the lack of details. In the new set of single F-18 missions in Wednesday's update, the very last one, called "O" something. It's a Caucus interdiction where you have to take out some parked helos at an airbase. The F-14's who are supposed to supply CAP, don't do a thing. They're even carrying AIM-54's! I keep getting blasted by a group of 4 MiG-28's -- I mean, MiG 29s. This isn't the first mission where the AI just "do their own thing", no matter what the ME settings. Anyone else?
  3. figures. I'm busy the whole weekend. No stick time for me
  4. the only way to currently do this is to set a zone on the disembark point and activate your hidden and inactive troops when the boat hits it.
  5. there are a ton of posts scattered around the forums on the current state of the AI, which seems to be miserably broken on a great many fronts, with a few of the issues being carried over from core 1.5 and into 2.x and having nothing to do with the modules. However, I'm not seeing a great number of posts in this forum for all these. What's ED take on all these AI issues people seem to be having? This really is making the simulation unplayable for anything but free flight. I understand they need to make a buck on the early access items, but they also need to fix them once they go into official release.
  6. It would also be nice to have a quick link to the encyclopedia so we know what kind of weapons we're loading, and if any pods have to go with them. I keep forgetting what the differences are between all the Russian ordnance.
  7. I'm getting dizzy here...
  8. I live in Florida. Autumn and Fall are sunrise and sunset respectively - of one single day sometime in Feburary. the rest of the year is summer
  9. hey! corny jokes are reserved for the OP. It's in the terms. did you miss that when you signed up? :-) I really thank you all for your responses. I guess I'm going to just have to try one out.
  10. if you look in your missions folder, there will be a mission labeled "mg.miz". this one is the last-generated mission. You can use this as a template. Find a good instant action mission, then use this file to improve it.
  11. I'd love to venture into VR but the threat of motion sickness is killing it for me. I really don't want to have to force myself to play to overcome any inner ear miscommunications. I also don't want to take Dramamine every time I play a game. It would then cease to be a fun activity. How are the opinions on this? Has anyone had to abandon the VR rig or reduce playable time because of this? Thanks in advance to everyone who responds.
  12. My wife accused me of covertly assembling an aircraft from the inside-out.
  13. I've been playing DCS for the better part of 12 years. Early Lock On customer. Many upgraded computer rigs, memory, CPU, GPU and equipment since then. Much monies spent. Do any realize that if any of you are like me we could have purchased our very own Cessna by now?
  14. Yikes. Thank you for this information. I almost pulled the trigger on a new Rift, but this post made me change my mind. I occasionally get motion sick with an FPS. It affects me for hours after I have to stop playing. Having a VR setup where I would have to force myself to be sick to acclimatize would defeat the purpose of this being an enjoyable experience.
  15. I thought all this time that this was one of the AI helos I dropped on deck crashing and burning due to the current carrier bug.
  16. don't forget to actually load the bombs on the aircraft. This gets me every time. you also have to set the weapon type to manual iron bombs, and set to release ALL ordnance at once.
  17. The hard part about even simple mission building is the endless debugging of even the built-in functions. You have to physically run and fly the mission over and over, tweaking various aspects to overcome (usually AI) quirks. Examples: the AI taxi behavior, AI tasking, then bizarre AI behavior. Having to repeat/debug the mission means that by the time it's actually ready to be flown for realsies, I've already run the mission about 50 times and need to move on to the NEXT one.
  18. +1. I really don't care about raindrops on the canopy, or various noxious emissions coming out of my aircraft, the RAT not being deployed...COWS for crying out loud. Fix the AI & AI pathfinding, dynamic campaign, frag damage, accurate AI flight and damage modeling...
  19. Thank goodness my PC has a HDD indicator light, otherwise I'd never know if DCS application is starting or has crashed. Sometimes it takes up to 3-4 min, staring at my PC desktop waiting (on 2 RAID0 SSDs) to get to the FIRST loading page (the one with the progress bar), let alone the main menu. It would be nice to get the initial loading screen with the status bar AS SOON as you launch the exe.
  20. USAF '92-96, just after Desert Storm II. 721st Space Command stationed at Cheyenne Mountain, Co. Display Systems tech. SCI clearance Navy Sub Sonar tech was my backup in case the AF didn't give me what I wanted. Now THAT's a cool job. However hot-bunking in a coffin was not something that gave me a warm and fuzzy.
  21. you should really take more pride in your finished work. That model is filthy! Look at all the dirt and oil stains. It looks like the aircraft has been flown for years and maintained by a bunch of E-3's. I hope you see the joke in the above. I know how hard it is to get all that shadowing pre-shading to come out right in a paint wash. The panel lines look awesome! You really did an amazing job.
  22. to be clear: you want to taxi and take off in an F/A-18... from the grass? Just like a helicopter? You probably don't have any responses because it's not possible in any modern US or European jet aircraft. Some Russian birds and the Harrier can take off from roads and "unimproved runways", but never from the dirt. None of this is modeled in DCS outside of helos
  23. it either has a GTX1060 or 1070. Make sure it has AT LEAST 16G RAM and you'll be fine. Being's that it's a laptop, you might have to dial down a setting here and there, but DCS will be more than playable. Of course, being's that it's a laptop, you'll be hard-pressed to complete an hour-long multi-unit mission without the laptop going full-on china syndrome on you. ANY laptop will be like that.
  24. yeah. parking brake. gets me every single time. If I was a real bug driver, I'd have to buy beers for the line crew almost on a daily basis while they laughed at me endlessly.
