  1. Are you using the same power supply and motherboard? It's odd that it would spontaneously fail after 3 months and not when you first got it. A bad capacitor will blow after so many charge and discharge cycles. It's usually a bad fan bearing that goes as that's the moving part. Glad to see the replacement is holding up.
  2. 1070's aren't RTX they are GTX. RTX is Nvidia's abbreviation referring to real time ray tracing. All the nomenclature for the boards can be confusing. I can barely keep track of it myself. I did have to return a 1080 that I fried playing the Witcher 3 in 4K. Per the data I posted earlier the original 1000 series did have a pretty high defect rate compared to the 2000 series. But just relying on forum posts brings us back to the original problem. It's not an accurate survey as people with failed boards are more likely to post about it online. I have owned 15 Nvidia 1070's and used them for mining. Not one failed. Sold them all on Ebay. No issues with returns. There was 1 that had a flakey driver issue but reinstalling the driver fixed it. Edit: I found the posts about energy policy in different countries very interesting.
  3. Ouch! Even when I was there we heard stories about GI's living on the economy and keeping their normal American electricity/heating/cooling habits. When they got their monthly bill their jaws hit the floor and thought it was some kind of mistake. It wasn't. I really need to keep that in mind and be more diplomatic when I'm giving you guys a hard time for not upgrading. I'd be reluctant to upgrade too if I had to pay that much for energy for a whole family. In the States we can get a tax credit for solar panels and if they are wired to the grid you can sell any surplus back to the power company and your meter will go down in kW-hr.
  4. The only people still mining Ethereum with Nvidia GPUs for profit are subsidized or stealing electricity. I live in a cold climate and electricity is about .12 cents a Kwh and it's not profitable for me anymore. I sold off all my 1070s I was mining with. When I lived in Germany cost of electricity was over double that and I seriously doubt it's gotten any cheaper since. Nvidia actually took a real big hit in "gaming" sales at the end of last year when Ethereum tanked. There was no real way to for industry analysts to know how much of Nvidia's "gaming" sales were from mining. Now we know, roughly 30%. In retrospect, just buying and holding AMD, Intel, and Nvidia stock was a much better investment. Kind of like the people who got rich selling picks and shovels to miners during the Gold Rushes of the American West. Bitcoin is mined with ASICs, it's not efficient or profitable with PCs and all those other alt-coins are mostly just scams.
  5. You mean 2070 FE? There isn't any evidence to actually support that, scroll up in the thread and you will see. I've had 2 2080 Ti's since they first came out. No issues. Even a failure rate of 1% is a lot of people but it's just bad luck. That's why it's important to shop from a reputable vendor/AiB with a good return policy and warranty. You don't usually hear from people who get good cards, they are too busy playing. It's the people who get bad cards who are more likely to write about it on forums. Negative word of mouth in general spreads farther and faster than positive word of mouth. It's just human nature. Nvidia grosses a billion dollars a quarter on gamings sales. That's a lot of cards, so that's potentially 10,000's of people if not more getting bad cards and having to return them. There's no way for Intel, AMD, and Nvidia to produce as much as they do without having some defects.
  6. Nice! Hope you get it ASAP. Happy flyin'
  7. No promises guys, but when I have some time over the holidays I'll update the firmware and see what's up. The Steam VR integration is motivation enough to give it another go as I'm playing on the Reverb now. It's been sitting in the box in my attic for over a year now. It at least looks like they are making a good faith effort and listened to my suggestion to find beta testers experienced with DCS as they weren't very flight sim savvy. Stay tuned...

  9. LOL, I was playind DCS in 4K with FXAA with a 7700K/Titan Xp over 2 1/2 years ago. No YouTube channel or gamer site that I am aware of does benchmarks for DCS. Both of those guys get kickbacks and special treatment from vendors. It's their job to get views and create demand for new toys. There's an obvious conflict of interest so you should take what they say with a grain of salt. The software is always ahead of the hardware. Always has, always will You definitely do not need a $2500 GPU card to play DCS. There is no AMD 3850. If you mean the 3950, that CPU is being scalped on Ebay right now for over $1000. A 3800X costs less than $400. A 9700K or a 3600x will do just fine. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html As I understand it the two cores that DCS uses are for the audio and one for the draw calls. The current gen of processors can run at higher temps without throttling. Cooler is always better though for the electrons running through the transistors due to lower resistance. Sure people can afford it. The question is why would you pay that much when you could buy something else like a bigger monitor or good pedals? In my experience, most of the issues people see on here are due to tuning and resource management. It's usually something simple like power management settings, unnecessary background processes, a fast SSD, enabling XMP profiles in BIOS, or locking your frame rate to 60Hz for TrackIR due to limitations of the IR camera. Telling someone they need to buy a faster rig doesn't really help.
  10. Seems like a pretty sound analysis to me. This would be a pretty weird and elaborate ruse to come up with just to rip people off. There has been a lot written about "start-up" business culture in the last few years. See Theranos (HBO Doc "The Inventor") and WeWork. The WeWork CEO was flying around on a jet giving himself an enormous salary and the company never made a dime in profit. It's almost like they have an intellectual blindspot to what a profitable company is and con themselves. Hope you guys get your money back.
  11. The DCS engine uses 2 cores and does not multithread. The rendering pipeline that sends draw calls to your GPU is on one core. You want the fastest single thread you can afford. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html https://medium.com/@toncijukic/draw-calls-in-a-nutshell-597330a85381
  12. Concur, I had to pull back some settings from TrackIR of course but not that much. Turning down the draw distance helps a lot, but you will see trees and buildings "pop in". I run MSAA x2 as well, otherwise the shimmering is really bad.
  13. Mirrors are definitely a luxury but I've lost count of how many times I've had a 109 or a MiG streak past my mirror that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.
  14. Have you tried a frame rate limiter set to 60? Sounds like your CPU/GPU is doing a lot of extra work. The hotter your CPU and GPU get, the more likely they are to throttle. Do you have an AIO for your CPU or is it aircooled? A little bit of CPU overclocking goes a long way in the DCS engine. PM me if you want any help with tuning. I'm sure we can get you a few frames. Mirrors are one of the biggest FPS killers. Once you are up in the air at high altitude you can usually turn them on. Cockpit display resolution applies to mirrors as well. Turning shadows completely off seems kind of drastic. Turning down heatblur and Depth of field/motion blur off are a big help with little impact on image quality. I would just ignore the other guy. 1080 Ti was the first card that could hit 4K consistently
  15. That's a Zero!!! Can't see the cannons in the wings, only the landing gear. But the engine cowling has the two machine guns and it has the birdcage canopy frame.
  16. Hey Racingmilk, Svsmokey already covered the motherboard. For the GPU rather than being overwhelmed with all the reviews it's best to check an objective benchmark of performance like this one. None of the popular Youtubers or gaming sites do specific DCS benchmarks unfortunately. https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html The 5700XT and the 2060 Super are very very close in performance. So it's pretty much a coinflip. Go with whichever you can get the best price on and has the best warranty. So be sure and check the fine print. Welcome to DCS. :pilotfly:
  17. Family? Why would you spend time with your family when you can playing online with us? ;) Wish you and your family all the best. I really miss the Weinachtsmarkte. I was able to visit the ones in Nurnberg and Weisbaden. Great memories.
  18. Hey Bit, Just saw this thread on Hoggit and remembered you mentioned this. Someone mentioned a fan on your face and a few other tips. Worth a try?
  19. Any word on when the Thrustmaster adaptor kits will be in stock on the NA website? I would like to be able to use the Warthog grip and the Hornet grip on the new MKIII base. I would also like to be able to order the KG12 grip along with the MCG Pro MkIII. Looking forward to finally trying out your products. Thank you. :joystick:
  20. I must of misunderstood your post. When you wrote "DCS will use the cores" I interpreted your post as saying DCS will use all the 8 cores of a 9900K. My mistake. I wish it did though. Afterburner is really handy. It only takes a few minutes to set up the OSD. Good for keeping track of temps in real time. You can set the OSD to a hot key. The frametime graph comes in handy if you think your eyes are playing tricks on you with microstutters. If the frametime graph (16.6ms @ 60 fps for TrackIR) is smooth your eyes will perceive the animation as smooth. And if you think you saw a hiccup or stutter but you are not sure, it will show as a dip in the graph. Good for trying out new settings. I don't think we are seeing a Vulkun build anytime soon, although I hope I am wrong. There is a popular GA sim that is converting to Vulkun and it's taking a long time.
  21. Hey Dave, DCS only uses 2 cores. The Windows hardware monitor can be deceptive. Windows 10 has a cool feature where it will hop between different cores faster than a human can perceive. This prevents one core from getting too hot to prevent throttling. Give your test another try with Afterburner set up as a real time on screen display showing utilization similar to how I have it set up on the screen shot I uploaded. No Track IR was running, just DCS, Afterburner, GeForce Experience Overly, and normal background processes. As you can see in the OSD it shows all 16 logical cores of my physical 8 core chip. The alternating 0% are the logical hyperthread cores that aren't being used. And as you can see on Core 15 there is 98% utilization. That's the single core that DCS really uses. Core 13 is at 33%, this is the core that DCS uses for audio if I remember correctly. BIOS for Intel motherboards is usually set to use the fastest cores by default, but you may have to manually enable it depending on your vendor. Core 11 at 23% is most likely the core that Afterburner or Geforce Overlay is running on. But it might be vice versa for core 11 and 13, hard to say without assigning affinity in ProcessLasso. The OSD doesn't show it but I'm actually running a 5.2 GHz overclock on 2 cores while the rest are @ 5.0 GHz and it's stable because it requires less voltage and puts out less heat than trying to OC all 8 cores to 5.2. FYI: An Intel 7700K only has 4 cores so it would be impossible to test on your system if it uses more than 4. It is also likely that your GPU is bottlenecked by your 7700K. I used to have a Titan Xp paired with a 7700k in my last build. When I built my new rig I tested the Titan Xp with the Z390 chipset and a 9900k and got about a 10% performance bump in frames. Trying to determine bottlenecking from percentage utilization of your GPU isn't necessarily accurate. The CPU is sending the GPU the draw calls, but the GPU does the work for the resolution and AA settings you have. Dropping down to 3 cores most likely resulted in background processes and other programs like TrackIR having to share the 3 cores which would give poor performance. I play in VR now so I have the framerate limiter in Riva Tuner set to 90 FPS. My gaming monitor goes up to 165 Hz and would show higher GPU utilization at those framerates. The 2nd GPU is showing 12% as I don't have my DCS SLI profile enabled in Nvidia Profile Inspector so that reading is kind of a red herring. Also, when you take screenshots outside of full screen with multiple windows that can show a higher utilization as the computer is multitasking more applications. P.S. What do you use to record in VR?
  22. DCS does not use multithreading and only actually uses 2 physical cores. A well overclocked 8700K is a good chip. Including the cost of the new motherboard and possibly RAM is a big expense for a relatively small bump in performance. If you use Adobe Premiere or Blender or some kind of productivity software it might be worth it, but for DCS probably not. Do you have anything else on your wishlist like pedals or peripherals? New monitor of gaming TV perhaps? If you are serious about the hobby I always recommend buying stuff that is not subject to Moore's law first, then upgrade your rig. I have a sim chair and pedals that will probably never break and no temptation to upgrade them every year or two. A good chair, pedals, monitor, and HOTAS are good investments for the immersion you get.

  24. Ditto...Love my Jetseat, can't fly without it now. I've had intermittent issues with one of the motors. Fixed with silicone lube spray and a few taps with my finger. It has moving parts so it's inevitable that something could fail after enough use, and I've gotten plenty.
  25. $15,000! I need to make a bid to the USAF. To be fair though, in military contracts it's typical to include delivery, installation, and maintenance for X years. Sad part is though, due to procurement red tape, that stuff's already obsolescent. Saw a good article a while back about an F-15 sim upgrade in Florida. They went with multimonitor flat screens versus the old dome screen setup. I love VR but would love one of these in my gameroom. "Low cost" is definitely relative in this case. https://www.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1121086/f-15c-simulators-provide-low-cost-critical-training/
