Hi Heatblur, First of all, thank you for the long awaited TWS !!! The system works great and it clearly makes BVR combat a lot easier. However I might have found a bug : I start a 1v1 BVR fight against a Su-27 and I shoot my first missile at around 40Nm. Once the missile hits 16sec TTI, I turn cold, dive to the deck and re-extend while the bandit defeats the missile. When I recommit, I need to look manually for the bandit which stayed hot and high, since I couldn't find him with the antenna elevation set to 0. So I asked Jester : scan elevation | altitude vs distance | 20Nm | 10'000ft. At that point, the antenna elevation changes but Jester goes nuts at the back with some switches and I am unable to select PAL in case I don't find the target. The workaround that I found was to go to RWS, change the elevation and then go back to TWS. I would assume that as the RIO, if you wanted to change the elevation, you'd need to go to TWS-M, then click back on TWS-A ?

I am experiencing the same, however TWS-A locks onto the correct contact once it reappears. I hope that the lost contact behavior going away from the screen is a bug and will be fixed in the future. It also takes away the TTI with him

All the best Cobra !

If the target beams, you would actually lose him due to the Main Lobe Clutter filter since your closure rate will be equal to your ground speed. If your closure rate is between +100kts / -100kts, the target will be in the Zero Doppler filter. So let's say you are chasing a guy doing 400kts and you are doing 300kts, you won't be able to use a Pule Doppler mode.
-
I also think that it's a must have !
-
Great topic ! In case you missed it, Spiceman made a nice video about radar techniques One thing that I think is key, is to always keep an eye on the closure rate in order to avoid targets being filtered out

Incredible work Gyro ! One question : If only sensored targets are considered, is it possible to use TWS-M to point the antenna on a target that we only see on datalink and then switch back to TWS-A to track it automatically ?
-
It would be nice to add "MLC OFF" to the Jester wheel or have him do it automatically (if it's possible ?)
-
From what I understand, you'll get the warning immediately after launch since it's an STT shot.

Excellent news Cobra ! Will the Phoenix update come together with TWS-A ?

Finally !!! I was wondering about that cross in the middle of the radar beam. Is that the steering centroid or a fix point ?

I couldn't find a better answer !

Data Link Not Showing AWACS data beyond 150 miles
Sam replied to Banzaiib's topic in Bugs and Problems
For example, in MP on the Growling Sidewinder server, F-14s take off from Tbilissi and Beslan, and I am unable to see enemy contacts around the Kutaisi area (being in line of sight) and that's roughly 100Nm. So I use the jester menu "scan elevation" and then I am able to pick them up. When I fly the F-16 however, I immediately have a lot of contacts on D/L in that same area. It could be a server issue though... Anybody else ? -
Data Link Not Showing AWACS data beyond 150 miles

I noticed the same. It seems like the F-16 / F-18 datalink is showing contacts a lot further away -
Thank you sir ! Very helpful :pilotfly:

This is great ! Exactly what I was looking for ! Thanks Nealius

"I'm sorry it's not finished yet, not for lack of trying at least. One last insidious bug that I've not been able to find." It seems like TWS-A is getting close... hopefully !

Thanks Punk. I'm already familiar with civilian operations, and was wondering about the military. For example, I've seen USAF F-16s having their nav lights flashing for taxi and then steady for take off. (sometimes flashing for T/O as well)
-
Hey everyone, Does anybody know the proper procedure for exterior lighting ? What light should be turned on and when ? Should they be flashing or steady ? Is there any difference between night time and day time ? Is it the same procedure on field and carrier ? I found a post where Victory was saying that exterior lights were turned on when the aircraft was ready to launch at night on carrier, but that's about it. Thank you for your answer :)

I wonder if the PK of the Phoenix against the AI will improve with TWS A and the updated missile. I had quite a hard time on that 1v1 :D The AI also chaffs at the moment the missile is fired and goes evasive later on. Tacview-20200223-172156-DCS.rar

I think managing the radar with Jester is hard work in the beginning, especially in a PVP environment. The rest is fairly straight forward. However, you can become really quick with the Jester wheel as you start remembering the position of the menus. As said above, it will be a lot easier when we will be getting TWS A. It's less workload with him against the AI.

Can someone clarify that last line? "PSTT or BRSIT or (ACM cover up with no track or PSTT or PDSTT): LTE 1s (unless STT and angle >15deg then 3s), no loft, active immediately" Does it mean that in PSTT no matter the range, the missile is active immediately ? In PDSTT with the ACM cover up as well ?
-
I also noticed how the missile goes immediately for chaffs, in both STT and TWS. First TWS shot at 25Nm, then PDSTT/PSTT at 15, 10, 5Nm and they all went for chaffs. Or maybe the AI is incredibly good at notching it ?

Can't wait for that new feature !
