  1. Not sure where this comes from so a pinch of salt may be required: http://www.defencetalk.com/forums/air-force-aviation/making-best-mig-21-a-10472/ Can't wait.
  2. That cockpit looks as intimidating as the Ka50 did back in 2008! I have a good feeling about the Mig-21. Sorry F5 key!
  3. You can fly and fight the shark without learning too many keys. I'm really impressed how the KA50 (which came out in 2008 ) still stands up against newer releases.
  4. Whatever has happened seems to have been resolved. Who is in or out of the team will become clear in due course. I suspect the project goes ahead with the agreement and satisfaction of everyone involved. Whether they are all happy is open to question. I'm hoping no-one has stamped their feet and run off with 'their' contribution.
  5. You guys running mistress alongside wife ought to take care. It's been established that mistress can cause catastrophic errors with wife resulting in the deletion of wife and many other assets. In that situation mistress can also downgrade to wife 2.0 losing many of the desirable mistress features in the process.
  6. All you suckaz gonna pay 20. I'm waiting for the 10 dolla sale. You all be whining then.
  7. I'd like to see DCS Vietnam. Seems to me the combat is more interesting without modern missiles and avionics and the aircraft from that era were pretty special. I can imagine the howls of anguish over the tree issue, though. Charlie may not surf, but he can see through trees!
  8. Is this thread an excuse to post those pics? Actually, I'll be interested to see what the bottelneck is here.
  9. Yes, the shark did feel intimidating. Watching that video bought a lot of it back. As it turns out you can operate the shark using cheat startup and relatively few buttons, if you wish. I agree, there appears to be no difference with INU fixes. I'm not sure if the airfield objects were a third party project that stalled.
  10. I think there were plans to implement drift. Back in 2008 BeachAV8R wrote a series of previews for SimHQ and in the second one talks a lot about performing nav fixes, although it's not clear if there is any drift to correct. He does have problems with the Abris losing satellite signal when too close to mountains. I don't think that made it to release, at least I've never noticed it. http://www.simhq.com/_air11/air_347a.html The video is linked on the last page of the article - 114 Mb D/L. Note the populated airbase. That never made it into the release, either.
  11. Confirm FPS is fixed for me in 6192. Thanks!
  12. Latest patch is 1.2.1 Do you have your numbers mixed up? Not the first person to do so. Too many 1s and 2s.
  13. Ah OK, I see what you meant now. As you say, The upgrade only require a copy of BS, doesn't worry about where it came from.
  14. Not entirely sure, but I thought the Steam version was only BS1 and you need BS2 for World.
  15. Heh, you weren't supposed to spot that!
  16. USMC Trev - Good Posts. I'm wondering what happens when developer X puts lots of time and money into DCS TakeYourPick and ED's QA says 'Almost but not quite - go back and fix it'. It's fine for ED to produce a beta and tweak it, but will they allow their third party suppliers that luxury? As we have seen the real testing starts when the buying public get the software on their drives and we know how it can go with new releases! Not whining or criticizing, just wondering how it'll pan out. I'm sure the right people on all sides have thought long and hard.
  17. Hi Astrospud, yes I think all addons announced so far are going for DCS level. Be interesting to see if any fall short and how they get released. I'm waiting for the IL2 style cries of over/under performance! :) It'll be good to see how the DCS spec aircraft perform in game against those modeled to a lower fidelity, which means the FC3 ones first.
  18. Haven't ED said that the DCS brand will only be applied to aircraft that meet the spec? To us users that would mean third party addons made to the same quality as ED DCS aircraft. When FC3 is integrated with DCS World those aircraft will not be branded as DCS so it's possible that third party devs may develop to an FC3 level or any point up to DCS fidelity. Or have I got it totally wrong? I would be quite happy to see a pack of 60's / 70's aircraft at FC3-ish level.
  19. Not a game mode problem is it?
  20. Does that have to be for BS1 or 2?
  21. I had the same issue as fjacobsen and it is frustrating (affecting all 32 bit OS users? not sure - hasn't been that much fuss) even if beta access is actually a bonus free gift! I decided it was time to upgrade from XP to win 7 64 bit. I'd never had a compelling reason to do it before but I found a good offer in the UK where I could buy an OEM version of W7 Professional under a Software for Students scheme. I'm not a student but my kids qualify and microsoft are happy for home PC builders/tinkerers to use their OEM product. I did the research and spent time backing up. The install went well - Win 7 makes it's own backup called windows.old which includes Docs and Settings, Program Files and Windows from your old OS. It's been a very positive experience. I'm having to slowly reinstall everything of course, but with a new OS that's not so bad. I can fly DCS World also. Win 7 performance is good compared to XP (DCS is exactly the same for me) and I'm pretty much at home after a week. I was worried it'd be similar to Vista, which I've used and don't like. It's not. Anyway, that's what I decided to do. My system is definitely not cutting edge with E8400, 4gb ram and gt440 but runs everything I want acceptably. If I change that horrible GPU I'll be even happier. Cheers!
  22. Would that be 10 people who'd just signed off DCS: Takeyourpick or 10 people sat staring at a brand new pile of manuals and pdfs?
  23. Yes, that was the source. I assume that as soon as the engine catches the more advanced spark from the magneto would make the starter spark redundant. If the mags are off the starter spark would be that much more retarded and the engine would run less well, as was mentioned earlier.
  24. Enjoying this thread. As someone who runs old cars (and usually replaces mechanical ignition parts with solid state stuff) most of the discussion was understandable. What I'm not sure about is it's timing - Effte's post describes the coil spark being timed by the distributor. Do the mags use the distributor too? Interesting engineering to get two differently timed sparks from the same distributor. Just answered my own question... Fascinating. "Ignition is by two high-tension rotating magnet magnetos mounted on each side of the wheelcase. The "A" bank magneto serves the intake spark plugs and the "B" side magneto serves the exhaust spark plugs. The magneto has an integral coil and breaker points operating off a four pole cam, each magneto is driven by a serrated coupling shaft turning at 1.5x engine speed. A distributor turning at 1/3 the magneto speed provides one complete cycle of 12 sparks every 2 revolutions of the engine. Provisions exist for an engine control mechanism to move the breaker base through 25 degrees of advance. In addition, the distributor features a two contacts on its rotor -- the leading finger is energized by the magneto and the trailing finger by an external terminal which can be connected to a booster coil to facilitate starting. The booster coils are essentially high tension coils with vibrating points which provide continuous spark -- when applied to the retarded finger they provide a high energy retarded spark which can greatly facilitate starting, especially with cold, slow turning (thick oil) engines which don't provide much speed for the magnetos. Merlins in aircraft only boosted the "A" bank, but I've seen boats with no boost, with booster coils on both banks, and both combinations in between. "
  25. Do you understand the difference between beta and release? Why not submit a list of the bugs you're seeing together with screenshots and /or mission tracks?
