What’s this angle if Jester is at the back? Will he adjust the azimuth accordingly as I crank or I’m stuck with whatever coverage area we are at when firing that missile?

I remember Cobra mentioned this before release that it’s on their list and will be coming pretty soon after release

Hello, I know that the FM is still in the work for Mig19 and I understand that AI SFM is probably on very low priority. But I'm still curious if that's on the planned list at all? Right now it seems unbeatable, I may get some lucky snapshots at him on F14 when he overshoots but otherwise it feels that he just wins me on everything: turn rate, climb rate, acceleration. A little example as that he did a constant 16.5 degrees/sec turn at 275->325 kt and 10000->8000 ft on a nearly full fuel load. Just curious if this is or will be worked on in the future? If not I may just try to tune the figures down myself (still learning how to do it though). Thanks!

I don’t think jamming for the whole package can be a thing in current implementation of DCS EW model but I might be wrong. Either way let’s hope ED can overhaul its electric warfare elements at some point it will add so much fun and realism to the game

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)

Not an experienced skinner here but I have encountered the same problem before. It turned out to be due to my Mipmap settings, I changed it to cubic and everything is fine. -
Noticed this as well, there was one time I forgot to trim at catapult and cat with nose down trim, I cannot get the nose up even with full aft stick and ended up crashing to the sea

Do we still get the buffet for high AoA now? I rely this heavily in dogfights so if we lose that in the new patch I’ll hold off the update. Thanks!

Is it me or is the F14 getting owned in multiply Player?

Could you please also upload a tacview file to say, Google drive? It would help a lot if we can see it from different perspectives and also see the real-time stats on both aircraft. Thanks for doing this it definitely gives us some confidence on the performance of the Tomcat -
Hello All, I was trying out the mission “floggers face off” the other day and to my surprise, both Jester and me using ACM radar modes can get a lock on the ships with no problem, even for ships with 0kt of speed. Is this a bug or is it intended? I’m not familiar with radars but is this impossible with pulse dopler modes? Or are the ACM mode by default in pulse mode? What about Jester? Thanks!

CVW-11 DCS: F-14B Tomcat Front Seat In-Depth Breakdown

Was waiting for this since I watched the excellent F18 video, thanks so much! -
No buffeting for me as well, now dogfight becomes harder Edit: I take that back, after moving the FFB shacking slides to 100% I can feel the buffeting in high AoA again, someone pointed out that the transonic buffeting is gone though I haven’t tried for myself. The problem now is that even with FFB force at 100% it’s still very weak as if there’s barely any centering force in low speed dogfight
-
I was expecting a simple centering force when they said "basic", but I get FF for high AoA, transonic flight, jet wash, you name it. The first flight after the patch I got hit by some bullets and dived to the deck, feeling the shaking with that compressor stall sound it's unbelievable.

Thanks so much for sharing! The VF31 CAG is one of my favorite paint scheme both on the Tomcat and Hornet. Any news on it?
-
Urrr what does that mean? Haven’t flown L39.

I find it so hard to do a coordinated turn in the Tomcat. In the Bf109 after initially established a turn all I need to do is to keep the roll axis of the stick centered and hold the bank using rudder. The feeling of how much rudder needed is quite accurate but in F14 I don’t get any feeling on that and the ball just jumped all over the place. That probably contributed to the seemingly poor turn performance of the cat. What seems to benefit me a bit is to try to abuse the aircraft, yank the stick, hold high AoA and stabilize the jet using rudder, it gives me the feeling of how the cat responds at edge of envelope.

Appreciate your explanation, thanks a lot! Yes the max boost can be maintained as long as MW50 tank is not empty and airspeed is not too low, not sure if this has to do with the current cooling model and if it will change after they update it. Some says it’s historically accurate some says not, I was referring to the 10min limit as on the manual.

Thanks for all the replies, now I get an idea of the pressure dropping Does this mean that by pushing the throttle all the way forward I'm giving the supercharger the same workload as it is at sea level and hence I still need to restrain myself from keeping full power for more than 10-ish minutes?
-
Hello, Yesterday I did a test to see how high this bird can reach and in the process I find something unexpected regarding to the MW-50 system so I’m wondering what is happening. At about 8k altitude I engaged max throttle and see the MW-50 pressure gauge showing a low 0.2-ish pressure and when I reach even higher the pressure is gone completely. Before that I have only used 5 minutes of MW-50 so it’s not because I’m running out of juice. In my understanding the MW-50 injection does two things: it delays knocking thus enabling a higher boost pressure and then it cools the supercharger. So even at high altitudes it still serves the second propose of cooling, does it? Then my questions: 1. Is the reduced pressure a conscious design choice to save MW-50 fluid because even cooling is not required at that altitude? (True that the supercharger is not producing as much boost as down low but in the mean time the atomosphere pressure is low there as well and the air is much thinner up high to cool the engine/supercharger, so I’m not sure of the combined effect). 2. At those altitudes can I safely use full throttle even with low or no MW-50 pressure? Thanks!

I'm also new to WWII birds and dogfighting in these planes and plays single player only but this is an interesting topic to me so just want to share my experience and a quite surprising observation between the two mentioned airframes so maybe someone can explain what's really happening. The BF109K is one of my favorite WWII bird and one big reason is that it can run/climb/dive but at the same time can turn fight and have a descent low speed handling (a plane that has all the cards, to some extent). In (the other sim) where the AI uses the same flight model as player, I used to be beaten by spits (V and IX, ACE AI) a lot and even in events that I did end up killing them, it takes me a good 20+ min time trying to do spiral climb, loop, extend, displacement rolls and hammerheads before I get a chance to place a good burst on him. But then I tried another tactic, that is, turn with him horizontally, he may do some vertical manuvours but most of the time I choose not to follow unless necessary. I learned that if I control my stick force appropriately I can out turn him and get to his six within couple circles. It feels to me that although spits have a tight turning circle it can't sustain a good turn rate for long, which may due to its engine WEP timer or its aerodynamic characteristics (or just the bad AI, I can observe the spits wing shaking when I'm about to catch onto him, either meaning he is pulling too hard or he just can't sustain the turn anymore). I'm wondering if the K4 can really win a sustained turn fight against spits in reality? (Spit IX in DCS on excellent AI is another story) edit: I was using the 1.98ATA K4 there so it's a bit more powerful down low and I was fighting him in 3000-4000m range

People have high expectation on this product and have expectations on it being mostly feature complete on early access release (they said similar words in the pre-purchase trailer if I did not remember wrong). I suppose that also puts a lot of pressure on HB team. Though I wish the same as you do, I don't think they will want to risk it.

Yes I'm holding it for quite some time in fact. I'm running the latest open beta and also updated today

May I ask by the damper off do you guys mean LAlt-9: Autopilot disconnect? Because I pressed that (and hold for more than 3s), nothing happens to me (I'm using Mig29A I guess that doesn't matter?), no warning and no unstable airplane. Did I miss something here? Thanks!
