  1. I am on iinet and can't login or go to the support site without using VPN. I have a ticket in with the DCS staff and they are looking at it. Things to note. A friend on iinet has no issues. I cannot login or got to digitalcombatsim.com without using VPN. iinet claims it has nothing to do with them and asked if there is anything else they could help with... It worked late last night but not this morning or now.
  2. Curiously I never once had that black screen issue on my 980 16g i7 system. My 2 day old rig is very similar to what you listed and guess what black screen. The tracking etc was working as on my monitor as I could move the view around with the Rift S but inside it was black and I could hear the music. Something else I noticed was that it went black at the crescendo of the menu music. Normally I do not use the Rift S headphones and I also don't have music on once I am set up but it was the first run on the new rig. It also reported my Display port wasn't plugged in. Also of note. I have 2 USB external HDD's connected to the pc and they both disconnected and reconnected at the same time as the black screen. The above happened twice in a row. A Rift software reset got it back the first time. The second I had to pull both the cables and plug them into different ports. The third time the game loaded up and Oculus Home was up on my monitor but the headset was black as I did not have it on. I picked up the headset and I could see all the tracking was working so I put it on. When I did this the Rift S turned on and was good for a couple of seconds and then black screen along with the sound of USB devices disconnecting and reconnecting. Had to pull the cables. !?! I did 3 things then. First I turned off the power saving on the USB ports and then second is I have audio not coming through the Rift S and I have the music off. No more black screen. Take from that what you will though dib's on the power saving.
  3. My IPD is 65 and the headband just fit my head. I got a massive improvement in comfort and I mean massive by removing the faceplate (It just pulls out) and just leaving that nose rubber in there. I was playing in this thing for 4 hours plus again last night which was unheard of with the CV1, No sweat, no pressure on the face and best of all a bigger FOV then the cv1 with it off. I can crank that thing right up to my eyeballs. I got used to the light leakage in less then 5 minutes and now don't even notice it unless I crank my eyes hard right or left just to look. I wasn't disappointed in the resolution of this thing because I bought it on a whim because there is many months I expect before I could get an index so in short wasn't expecting much. Just bought it really because of a lot of posts here and I came across an Amazon offer that said you could have this in 2 days buy now. The more I played with this thing the more I am loving it. Yeah I get the blurring at the edges but I no longer care as if something catches my eye my head natural turns towards it and it is clear. I don't need to take the HMD off to read the virtual desktop now, passthrough lets me see where that drink is and the cockpits of the planes are just amazing... Oh snap that is oil pressure!! Same with cars, trucks, spacships whatever sim I am playing. Being able to turn off the labels and being able to successfully dogfight wwII fighters was what sold it for me. You get diminishing returns with range but that is the same in real life and it isn't going to be dealt with until there is foveated rendering combined with amazing panels and RTX9million graphics cards, imo not in the next few years. I have gone from excited at launch, disappointed 10 seconds after launch, hopes pinned on the Index and then an impulse buy to very happy with this thing. For the state of the hardware we have to push these things I have come to understand I really like this thing. This HMD isn't a quantum leap but it is a very welcome improvement, Anyway. Pull the plate mate, you may end up liking it like me, VR time is limited to toilet breaks now ;) Except for the sound. LOL Sennheisers ftw.
  4. Mine turned up yesterday and something that may be of interest to some of you but not all. The entire faceplate can come off with a bit of a yank, especially along the top but it does just pull out. What this means if that there is no contact with my face and plenty of air flow. Yes I can see the room in the extreme peripheral but it turned out after a while I had zero trouble ignoring that and just got absorbed in whatever I was doing. I can also see the keyboard tilting my head just right if needs be. Benefits of this? I could move the screens up to almost touching my eyeballs and get maximum fov. I could feel the heat from the screens but it never got uncomfortable because of the straight through air flow. In fact I was in the HMD for over 3 hours straight with no issues at all. Unheard of for me as normally wiping of sweat and pressure points are getting sore. Some wont find this very good and each to there own but if you can ignore the peripheral then this is actually the best VR experience I have had to date. No chance of going back to the CV1. When I first did it I had the impression of Augmented Reality. IE I could see the real world to the sides but I was looking into a window into a virtual world sort of thing. As I mentioned after a while I found I could get totally absorbed in the VR and completely forgot about the peripheral views unless I wanted something. I cant see that faceplate going back on. I was disappointed in this thing when it first came out and only bought it because I could not order the Index and it will be months before I get another shot so why not? Some comments in this thread had me intrigued and now I am glad I did. It is not world changing but it sure is better.
  5. Odyssey is MOLED with some thing on it to blur the screen door if I remember rightly. LED is basically more detail, less black so effectively clearer in this application. Just saw this.. New 2019 Rift S comparison in DCS F/A-18C Jump to 5:05 to skip unboxing and see him testing the CV1. Jump to 9:16 to get to Rift S. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smTPpz-XDwg
  6. A screen grab from Adams Savages Tested hands on of the Rift S and shows the resolution difference between it and the original Rift.
  7. I do believe there is speakers in that headband but they will be meh at best. Just a bit of perspective on the headphones. Personal choice and all that but I got a bit of a story on that one. I removed my Rift headphones early on as my gaming headphones were better. I have since upgraded the audio and I now run optical out through and amp' into what I consider very good quality headphones and mate honestly I would not go back to anything that is built to meet a price in an overall package. Not as elegant for sure as the Rift ones that is a given but they make the Rift ones sound broken imo. 1 cable, 2 cables, meh no difference in a cockpit for me :)
  8. This and thanks Wags. I've been a long time out of DCS. Did a bit when VR came out, lots of potential but couldn't really see much and I didn't do combat anyway as I just loved to mostly fly. DX11 I think it was came of the betas and it went from looking all DX9 to trees the wrecked my day and just amazing in VR even with the res limitations so I got back into flying around. Did a bit of a mod so I could see incoming and started air combat and was hooked on P51's and P86's. Jaw dropping. New VR gear on the horizon and I am now really looking forward to it. I was extremely disappointed with the Rift S reveal but if any post ever was going to put it back on the list it was this one. I have gone from hoping the Index was going to be worth the enormous upgrade path to I might be good to go right now with the new VR optimization and your comments on the Rift S. Anyway thanks to the team there. Be it combat or just flying around with my jaw in my lap this is an outstanding sim and looking forward to the future.

    RACE 07

I hope you are wrong because the graphics for me didn't seem that "nice" but the reflections on the track were interesting so I did some more reading about the engine... From... http://www.simbin.se/main/technology.htm So I see no reason why a state of the art engine shouldn't do those graphics. Anyway like I said I hope you are actually incorrect else I won't be real impressed with the bling.
  10. That is one of the reasons my views changed while researching and I ended up all CH, I have seen similar to that more then once.
  11. I actually went to Fighterstick because it has even more. I will probably never use them but when you are spending that much a few bucks more doesn't hurt and I can twiddle stuff and be impressed ;) A thing you should remember with CH stuff, no twist stick so if you go CH you must get pedals. 1,2 and 3 :)
  12. Best way to pick controllers imo. 1: What do you want? (Bling, bang for buck, long throw, short throw, high pressure, low pressure, accuracy, longevity etc etc etc) 2: How much are you willing to pay for what you want. 3: Research. Because we will all tell you ours are the best and all the rest suck! I spent a couple of weeks + researching mine (Kinda odd for me, generally an impulse buyer but getting older hahha) and ended up getting exactly what I wanted and have been exceptionally happy with them for near 6 months now. By all indications I shall continue to be happy for a very long time. Interesting to note after picking 1 and 2 and then doing 3 for a while 1 and 2 changed and I ended up with something I originally wanted like a hole in the head. BTW I ended up with CH but what is best for YOU depends totally on your own 1 and 2 and what 3 does to it over time.... or you could just rush out and buy whatever we tell you is sweet and then suffer.. good luck :)
  13. Actually you are incorrect, with speed you can waggle the stick with no pitch and lots of interesting things happen :) It has been a while since I have done what I posted so I just went and checked and my post is correct. Follow my instructions and you will barrel roll ranging from crap to not to shabby every time. Once you can pull off the basics the rest is just practice. Remember my instructions are to teach someone who has never done one before how to get the basics of the stunt as easily as possible, not how to do it sweet. deadsmell (lol awesome name) has a very very good point. Dump the weight and it is vastly easier to do silly things. My aerobatics load out has only 20% fuel and zero ammo but I always have wind and turbulence of diffent levels. Dead calm is no fun :)
  14. Ok this is how I learned to do them. Once you learn how to do it every time you can refine it but this will get you started. 1: Fly straigh and level, faster the better. Near VNE is a good place to start because when you stuff it up you will lose speed and it's not like you are going to really die :D 2: Slightly bank to the right and then pull up smoothly (Dont jerk it) to about 25 degrees on you hud then boot full left rudder and full left stick. 3: Keep the same back pressure on the stick. 4: As its roll thru inverted (That be upside down matey!) quickly push the collective to zero. Keep boot in and the stick over tho. 5: As it rolls thru about 3/4 of the loop start feeding back in collective and get off the rudder and recover. The above will be a bit messy but it is how I taught myself to do them. In fact it is the "formula" I found after I didn't die once and kept at it until I didn't die every time and came up with that. Once you got that down you can refine it with practice until you can pull them off each way very smoothly while keeping the g load down and the ball in the center. Right rolls tend to require more precision tho, well they did for me at any rate. Hope this helps those that wish to impress the ladies ;)
  15. You can edits some lua files to have more things driving around as well. By no means does it make it a "realistic world" as such but does ad to the whole feel of the sim. If you want to fly a chopper that feels "right" then by all mean buy it, I haven't looked back and it also has guns and stuff if you get bored :D
  16. Work in progress tho I haven't had the time to continue for the last 6 weeks :(
  17. Don't know never tried them. I have tried the tweak described in the FAQ tho and yes it does make an improvement. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=572304&postcount=35
  18. Wrong forum but I am sure it will be moved very shortly. The TrackIR software will detect the sim automatically.... That is assuming you have also updated the GAMES list for TrackIR as well. Click "Update", then "Check for game updates" on the TrackIR GUI and you should be right. Unless it is something else but a lot of these problems are answered by that one.
  19. hmmmm http://welcome.filefront.com/
  20. K.E.R.S. !! LOL man that grabbed my interest right there and then. I haven't watched F1 for a long long time because it was quite frankly boring as bat shit. But I happened to walk past the tv when they were explaining kers and I became interested. How many racing games have you played that have had a special "turbo boost" button that had X seconds of boost you could use once per lap and always laughed at something so silly and unrealistic... and then they put it on F1 cars hahah
  21. Man it must be good to be a fighter pilot sometimes
  22. I would expect in rl I would have a very bad time flying and a very easy time crashing flying where I did in that video, however the sim does not model turbulence caused by other aircraft. On one of the flights I did you were flat out seeing daylight between my blades and his gear but it looked stupid so I put some "realistic" space between the 2 aircraft.
