To identify an unknown contact without AWACS and without other donors in the datalink, you need to do the 2-factor identification by yourself. You need to have a rejected Mode4 interrogation and the NCTR engine modulation read out. Then the contact will turn red on the SA page and is fully identified.

Dude, how should we be able to help you with such few informations? What happens when you press "Fly"? Singleplayer? Multiplayer? Selfmade mission?

Many thanks for all your answers, some good points there. Thanks.

Answer from here: https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/37947/what-is-this-smoke-coming-from-an-f-a-18-shortly-before-takeoff "It is not smoke. It is bleed air being blown behind the heat exchanger which forces cool air across the front of the heat exchanger, this is only happens on the ground. The left side of the aircraft has a secondary heat exchanger that is also cooled by a water spray nozzle. The water is created by the ECS taking bleed air and cooling it. The water is blown out by the bleed air so you can see it more on one side than the other. In the picture, it seems to be raining so the air being blown out is more visible because of the rainwater."

As long the AWACS doesn't provide enemy contacts via Link16 you need a 2 factor IFF identification to make sure the unknown contact is hostile. Even with the AWACS you need a 2 factor ID, but AWACS will be one, your radar the other. Unfortunately we can't see what is going on on the radar b-scope. Have you Mode4-ed them? Did other donor in your datalink M4-ed them? I would recommend watching another IFF tutorial. Like this one:

The A-10C Manual for example is more than 700 pages big and very detailed. Just wait till the Hornet is out of Early Access and I am sure ED will provide a more detailed manual for the F/A-18C.

Hi all Since the timer showing the remaining time till the AMRAAM goes active is not working right now, I would like to know how you guys handle this in combat. Do you just wait till impact? Do you break lock at a certain time of the count down and hope for the best?

Should this work right now? When I change from slave to bore, bore is set to both missiles.
-
You can change the range of your radar by putting the TDC cursor over the range arrows beside the OSBs and klick TDC depress.
-
If i am not mistaken, this would be the Cursor Enable Button on the throttle. But it is not implemented yet.

Thats sad, I am so used to enter TWS by HOTAS command form the Viper. Thanks.
-
Is there a HOTAS command to enter TWS?
-
Yeah, but you still need a reference point on the ground, otherwise your targeting computer would not be able to calculate the release point. Thats why you can set a waypoint as target point.
-
Are you really dropping GBU-12 without TGP? Ah, I get it, you set a waypoint as target. Cool.
-
Does the Viper have a Trim Reset option somehow?
-
I guess, you are talking about the possibility to lock a target with your HMCS, when you say radar gunsight. This does work in the F-16C. Make sure your HMCS is on. Put your Dogfight switch in Dogfight Override and then push TMS forward. Put the target in the HMCS-egg and press TMS up again to lock. Video explaining the ACM modes:

I never have any uncommon issues with locking bandits in the F-18. It is loosing lock now and then, yes that is frustrating, but the Hornet offers you so many cool automatic target acquisition possibilities, it is just a joy to lock targets. Specially the long range helmet acquisition mode is OP. Sniping targets up to 40nm with just a turn of your head is awesome.
-
But this option only affects the AGM-65E seeker head, afaik. I don't think this will bring an improvement for OP's issue.
