Which reminds me I need to buy a cap to replace my old one, so I can use my vector expansion. It sucks going back to 2DOF after being used to the glory of 6DOF! Without 6DOF it's tough to see those switches behind the stick!

My way of understanding the trim function is by not strictly thinking of it as trim. Instead, you position the heli where you want (be it a stationary hover, or just flying forward) then press the trimmer immediately before releasing the controls. A good way of thinking of it is that the computer tells the autopilot to continue doing what you were doing with the contols, allowing you to take your hands off the HOTAS to flick switches, or concentrate on firing weapons etc. Without it, it would near impossible to fly the KA50 like a tradition helicopter AND control all of the systems. That's why when you use auto hover, you hit the trimmer button again, as soon as it settles into a stable hover. This way your neutral stick position matches the 'saved' cyclic position on the autopilot. In real life, when you press the trim button, the stick doesn't return to centre - instead it is held in place where you left it. Obviously (unless you have a force feedback joystick) our sticks can't be held in position, so our trimming function is really a "close as it can be" trim emulation. Hope that made sense. It took me a while to get my head around it, so I hope my above post is clear and helpful!

Yup, AFAIK everything can be english (depending on the options you use) in the english version.

Because there is no chance in hell you will be able to take your hands off the HOTAS long enough to flick switches and fire weapons when you are flying the helicopter "traditionally" without the assists. It's just too much to do with too few hands! :D

Hehe thanks for the help, but I'd already said that that's not the speed I'm talking about, I already know about that knob :D Thanks anyway. I've just been playing around using the HMS to ground stabilise the SHKVAL. Very cool! :D

When slewing the SHKVAL using the hat switch to lock a target (not the automatic sweep speed), I'm finding that the slew speed is stupidly slow. Is there anyway to speed it up? Is there a speed selector? Or will I have to do it through Foxy?

So ONLY version 4 of TIR works? That sucks! I spent good money on TIR 3Pro and I will be spending good money on the English version of DCS, so it's a real shame I can't use them together! :(

Gah I thought I had understood the trimmer. What advantage does using cougar trimmer over in game trimmer have? I don't understand what lock/unlock cougar and trim cougar are for?

OK thanks! Where and when do I need to be to fly casual traing flights with you guys? Basically, the main problem I'm having is flying the damn thing lol, any tips and "see what you did there was wrong, do this instead" would be brilliant.

I've got a Cougar so it would be a waste to not use all the buttons :D I downloaded Legolasindar's cougar profile, and I've edited a bit to suit my needs (Microstick axis etc).

Well I don't deny that if I were to install it on my XP partition, that I may get more FPS without the affinity change. However, surely, if you can get more FPS by doing it than without, then why wouldn't you?

Have you updated the games list and restarted the TIR Software? Make sure in the games list you've told TIR to use the correct profile for 'Black Shark'. Then when it works, and you load up DCS, the blue light should appear on the TIR.

Great forum! The FAQ is saving my ass right now! Every time I have a new question, it's been covered in there. It took me ages to understand the KA50 Trim principle - once my mate had explained it and I had read that FAQ, it suddenly became clear! :) I can see this sim is going to take a long time to learn, but I feel like I am making progress now that I can control the heli rather than letting it control me. I can ramp start it off memory more or less now (well, I can get the blades up to full speed and fiddle with the ABRIS) - even just flicking switches and seeing what they do is progress :) BTW, just out of curiousity. I am a Falcon flyer, and never enjoyed LOMAC. I don't know how many of you are previos LOMAC flyers so I'm curious how many of you are clicking the pit, and how many are remembering keystrokes? Thanks all!

Unfortunately, I don't think I have time to join a squadron. However, are there any UK based squads or casual groups of mates that would mind me tagging along on a few training missions when I have time etc? I don't mean to sound selfish, but I just cant commit to an online squadron atm. :(
