thanks for your clear and concise information, very helpful. A quick question , i am trying to find the supercarrier missions in the F/A 18 and they are not there. The product is loaded as I see the Supercarrier ICON at startup. if you could link me to the proper forum area, i don't want to tie up this thread with novice questions and thanks again!!!!

Wish for just more FPS and overall better performance.
bad_turbulence replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Wish List
CPU Processor speeds have to be pretty beefy for that. a 2016 era 3.4GHz multi-core processor even using a 2080Ti will probably choke pretty hard. -
i'd be interesting in your findings for the SC running 2080 equipment. Wondering the cost (frame-rate-wise) going to SC
-
is it more immersive? what about frame-rate hit?
-
wow. congrats!! also, what frame-rate hits vs. Stennis are you getting? I'm guessing this is going to chew up some frames. I'll probably have to go to single monitor to play it.
-
True,, because it definitely can't drive 4K. 4K monitors were meant for the future of nVidia cards :megalol:

that's decent news reporting right there. haven't been flying VR, perhaps they optimized that part of the code. Will give F-16 another try this weekend with settings down and see what happens. I still havent seen an update pause and download (w/Torrent message) from OpenBeta in a long time. Perhaps they sneaked one in (update) and I didn't see it updating at launch. Pretty sure it would have goobered up my custom settings for monitors.lua (kind of things). Great update on the VR side though and thanks again!

Any FPS increase for the F-16? I'm hoping it gains about a 20fps increase fairly soon because i have to turn down the graphic settings every time i fly it, then turn them back up for all other planes.
-
Perfect! i'm planning on downloading it today and checking it out, thanks again.
-
When did you see an update come down? or had you not been using it in a while and it did an update upon your last launch? The reason I ask is that I have not noticed one in a while.

Great info, looks like those things are a must. I will try to get better at all the controls and flying then try to join a team to do multiplayer (long way to go to understand just all of the ACRONYMS on the F-16 , F-18 Too much of a rookie to do it yet so I'm going to inch my way closer I hope. I will make sure to do SRS, voice-attack and VIACOM. I'm making a note of this post ASAP.

I am very hopeful and encouraged that they will make some progress with the 16. There are posts referring to its bad Frames and Performance. If they want to keep people playing it, they will have to get that fixed first, then work on the other items. If it flies slow frames, it's a non-starter. We should see this product get better and better each month. I look for mid-summer to hopefully get the frames worked out or at least up to par with the 18 and M2000. At least that's a high bar to shoot for frames-wise. I'm trying to beef my system up now by putting DCS World Open-Beta on a faster SSD so hopefully that will make some difference. Can't do much about my CPU (6800K 6-core) until they write DCS World using Vulkan and Metal API's, then my CPU will be at its best....until such time that i re-invest in CPU , but that's way down the road. So yea, back to the 16...I'm hoping for a wind-fall of fixes and performance changes coming in the next month or so (wishful thinking I know)...i just have confidence in their ability to put more people on this project because it's such an important one (the frames issue). Thanks for the input!!!!!

Great advice and point well taken. I have a lot to learn and i will configure two situations with "Alternate Launcher". I will launch with one screen option or a 3 screen (really 4) depending on what immersion i want (low fps vs. much higher). But will learn the aircraft more thoroughly. F16 and F18 along with flaming cliffs is enough to handle for now. I'll start with the 18 and 16 for sure. Easy as she goes as they say. Yea, i think i'll get on those radios (would you recommend voice-attack with the additional component addon (can't think of the name). I'll order a good microphone or use a headset. thanks a ton

Yea, i can't wait for Viper to get some updates, it will be great. As for the F/A 18, thankx for the heads up. I will make sure I backup my options.lua and many other files that have mod fixes (AMPCD line bluriness, RWR, etc.) since ED will overwrite those with this patch you speak of. I would expect that the patch will come down at any time, correct? I have not launched today so I don't know when it will come. As for TRACK-IR, i can get a little motion sickness with VR Glasses on, but i used to have a cheap China made 3D printed fake track-IR type device that used the old sony motion-cam attached to a monitor and so then you would use this cheap-freeware tracking software. This 3D printed fake Track-IR type device would attach to my Hyper-X headset (i would attach it with tie-wraps to fasten it) and then I had a TRACK-IR type device to work with. But the 3D printed unit broke and that was that. I'm just not sure if i should stay with the 3+1 screen system for now or not. THe frame-rates suffer even with a 2080Ti card and mid to low settings (3 screens on 2080Ti & one screen below running on its own GPU).....so it's a hard call what to do since Track-IR is several hundred. I might use that money to go toward an HP Reverb or something along the lines of that or PIMEX , but time will tell and i appreciate the recommendations and updates on the ED progress!!!!!
-
thanks for that recommendation. I'll take a look at the JF17 reviews. that's the only plane that wouldn't come up on my list and allow me the free trial for some reason. Also, do you consider TRACK-IR a must? I have 3 screens plus a Helios screen. I would assume Track-IR is a must due to being able to look upwards? (in my configuration)? would you agree with that? would be the biggest benefit. I have not tried my oculus-rift in a long time (pre 2080Ti card) and so i don't know what DCS will look like now....probably will still be screen-door so I'm kinda stuck to the 3+1 monitor configuration for now. thanks a ton!!

when do you think there is light at the end of the tunnel?

Kneeboard settings is not available as a selection on my version, which is the new version.. perhaps i need to go to pre-beta because "kneeboard settings" must have gotten missed in the beta, because there is no way to adjust. i will get the stable version and see what i got and thanks all who helped with this thread

Kneeboard only half on screen - MultiMonitor
bad_turbulence replied to CallsignFrosty's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
not sure if they've programmed that in yet. i could not find where to change the size and position of the kneeboard files. perhaps i was looking in the wrong spot but the options in their instructions vs. what was in the newest version i was using was two different things. Can anyone please advise.. the PDF file where "Kneeboard Size" is referenced has a reference to a little icon that you click that has a blue arrow in a black box and then it says you are taken to the KNEEBOARD Size: Box, where you then see Hight in PX and Width in PX. i dont see the little do-hicky to be able to move it, much less see the pixel count for the x and y axis of the .png files. -

What if DCS does an update to a file that's in OVGME? -
having not owned a thrustmaster, i would assume TARGET is specifically for that. I will check in the TPC (virpil) software for a way to do that...not sure there is but it's worth checking. thanks a bunch for that info, that will really help!
-
Ok, great detail. I will copy and paste this and then cross each one off as they make patches. Thanks a ton!

Interesting reading all of these posts. I just bought the F-16 and F/A 18 knowing they were WIP , but it sounds like there is so much yet to be accomplished on them. What Jet is similar to these that is 100 percent flawless in their line-up? I might have to go with that one for now. (DCS World OpenBeta)

Hmmm, Ok, so an encoder won't cut it since there is no min/max. My T50-CM2 throttle doesn't seem to have anything i could use for that since there are no knobs that have a min/max much less have the ability to press in addition. I might have to get creative on that score.

Great answer on #2(Range knob). Quick Question: what would the ideal mapping be , rotary knob, hat-switch, or just a toggle on / off switch, and should it be an AXIS mapping? If so, which type of hat or knob?
