Preview of the F-16 throttle grip on the Orion base
Supmua replied to MustangSally's topic in Winwing
The entire setup looks really good, and the price is not bad either. -
It seems their motion prediction technique will use depth buffering (like Oculus asynchronous spacewarp), it will be interesting to see how this affects fps. My FedEx app shows label being created so the US shipment is imminent.
-
How is performance in fps compared to your G2. Did you notice any significant distortion with DCS? I plan to use this (just the top part) with the Aero for extra fit and comfort. Works great with my Vive Pro2. https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/htc-vive-pro-1-2-counter-balance-enthusiast-kit

MBucchia NIS scaling tool....works with DCS?
Supmua replied to markturner1960's topic in Virtual Reality
That works great for me in MSFS, but DCS supports either OpenVR or Oculus runtime. Use fholger’s VR performance toolkit for DCS instead (on GitHub)—it’s got openFSR, NVIDIA NIS, and AMD CAS all in one. -
I watched a few comparison videos on YouTube, and unfortunately it does not look like it’ll be good for VR. DLDSR at current iteration produces significant aliasing artifacts (jagged edges and shimmering) which will be more pronounced in VR as the image is right in your face. DLSS would be much better suited for DCS with superior antialiasing, but probably won’t happen because ED doesn’t like proprietary technology.
-
I played with this for a bit. The DSR option disappears whenever SteamVR is on, so I'm not sure it's working correctly. Anyway, I've been using this latest (and greatest) VR performance kit from fholger. GitHub - fholger/vrperfkit: VR Performance Toolkit The image quality is very good with NIS 0.88 and sharpening 0.2 on my setup, gained a few extra fps. I think the visual clarity in the focal zone is just about as good as it gets on my Vive Pro 2, but I'm waiting for the Varjo Aero to prove me wrong.
-
This should be good for DCS if it works. Basically a free VR supersampling at the driver’s level with little cost via AI. The tensor cores are now becoming more useful besides ray tracing and DLSS.
-
Just got an email from Varjo, mine will be shipped within 2 wk. Good news for US customers.
-
It is better according to a number of people who have used it on the criteria that you listed, but how much better is still up in the air since the sample size is still very small. Then there’s this edge distortion and chromatic aberration which apparently is severe to some, but minimal to others. My hunch is it is going to be another controversial headset, and we’ll have better info when they start shipping outside Europe. If you don’t need it now just wait a few weeks for more reviews.
-
If you plan to upgrade your headsets to Varjo Aero or Apara in the future it is safer to go with NVIDIA as AMD GPUs are not currently supported.
-
Unless you have a very strong GPU I don't recommend 120Hz mode. Reprojection and/or motion compensation work best at 1:2 ratio, so you'll want to aim for fps 45 for 90Hz or 60 for 120Hz for smooth gameplay and minimal artifacts. 1:3 is fine in slower games such as MSFS but not that great in DCS or fast action games. As far as I know reprojection is always on for the VP2 so it'll fill in the missing frames to get to either 90 or 120 fps depending on the Hz, however motion compensation can be manually set to on or off. The problem with using no motion compensation is that close objects such as buildings or ground targets become quite blurry when you fly over them (looking to the side and down), so I always have this on at the cost of a few ms of GPU frametime. I'm not sure you can really cap any headset's refresh rate. SteamVR has fixed throttling (capping fps, not refresh rate), but I don't think that applies to the VP2--haven't really tested it for this though.
-
Varjo supports reprojections (1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and so on). It just doesn't have functioning motion smoothing at the moment (called motion prediction in the software setting), this is coming though. Either that or US customers tend to be more vocal and entitled, lol. Anyway, Euro customers are paying more so Iet them enjoy it first.
-
OP, can you confirm the online requirement for the Aero? People are saying that the default headset is shipped in a locked state which requires online authentication every 48 hours for normal operations. This might piss off a few people.
-
Don, it’s sort of a mod albeit an official one since you have to first enable it in the autoexec.cfg file. You won’t have the <headset name>.lua unless you had already used the tool and made a save.
-
Are you talking about the force eye recovery tool option? If so, delete the old <headset name>.lua in the Saved Games\DCS.openbeta first so the option will appear again when you restart the game. I suspect the settings from your old headset might be at play here. When switching headsets, it's better to delete all the settings or even files from the previous one to prevent cross contamination. Once there're more DCS people with the Aero there'll be more info about optimal settings, etc. Until then it's just a guessing game for people who don't have the headset or trials and errors for you.

It looks like they've sold hundreds of units, the European early order numbers are 825xx. Most of the buyers are MSFS players it seems. I'm also surprised quite a few people on that channel have the VR-3, these guys are big spenders.
-
Some people on Varjo gamer discord channel already got their shipping numbers, and one person already has it for the past few days. They’re all in Europe, I haven’t seen US shipment yet and my order # is a fairly early one 8260X.
-
That’s coming also. I’ve seen the most recent picture and the throttle grip looks pretty much finished (can’t show it here but it looks a lot better than the TM Cougar). They are still working on the attachment accessory for the RS Throttle base that would make it a complete product. Again, it won’t be cheap.
-
The tethered version will definitely be better for flightsims (more bandwidth). According to MRTV, the brightness is somewhat poor even though the black level is phenomenal, so in games with bright scenes it may not look as good as typical LCD headset. Of course in dark scenes it will blow everything else away. There's also an issue with motion smoothing which is currently not supported, but can probably be added via software. He saw better fps with this headset compared to others, but of course without motion smoothing algorithm your fps will be higher.
-
Isn't this the way it is? 100% axis is always beyond afterburner detent, and 0% axis is at IDLE.
-
Yeah considering it's such a niche product, but we do need a product (or two) of this quality in the market though. There're plenty of expensive gear in the general flightsim arena. This provides extra options to the people willing to spend. I can at least attest to the superb build quality since I had it in my hands for over a week.
-
The price is for both throttle grip and base, so historically it won’t be below $1K considering how they price their preexisting joystick base and grips. Unfortunately, manufacturing cost has also increased compared to 6 mo ago.
-
Yeah it will be a tough sell at that price. The price would be cheaper if the product is made in China, but it is not something that they want to do.

Hit one of the trucks that are next to the cargo ship, it will trigger a big explosion in that area. The current instruction is not very clear. There are other campaigns with 2hr missions, imagine 1:30 hr in and you ran out of ammo or crashed or got shot down and had to redo the whole thing. At least the mission length is more manageable for average players in this campaign.
