  1. Last I heard, this pod is very inaccurate, and not used at all by anyone. No reason to put it on the A-10. It was intended for other aircraft AFAIK.
  2. I think Grimes told me he once managed to wedge his ejected Black Shark pilot amongst the rocket pods/missiles of another player's Ka-50, and the other Ka-50 was actually able to carry his pilot as short distance before he fell to his death. I also think he might have been full of !@#$. What do you think? Full of !@#$ or not? Both?
  3. LOL Nate you bastard Sniper! Ok, well, thanks for the report, the problem is reported. Twice. No idea when the fix will come though.
  4. Well, I think I know one way they will frequently get in there: track files. Someone takes a track file, and "converts" it back into a mission by simply changing the extension to .miz. Of course, this is very bad, as it leaves the track data still in it, leading to excessively huge mission sizes. Some people know how to unzip the .miz and remove the track data, but you also need to remove the views settings.
  5. http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=nuclear+reactors+in+space :P  Note that the only nuclear reactor in space disaster was caused by a Soviet satellite. They launched nuclear powered radar emitting satellites. Their satellites were designed to eject their spent reactor cores into a higher orbit before the rest of the satellite would re-enter. Unfortunately, one of these ejection processes failed, and spread radioactive debris over Canada. Note that this kind of problem can only happen for Earth-orbiting satellites, not the nuclear reactors NASA would like to send on interplanetary missions.
  6. OK, glad we got that sorted. I didn't believe that you believed those things either, which I why I was confused. No, I make no judgments for or against the nuclear activists, I merely imply that whatever your opinion is on the the matter, you have to admit that they probably did us a favor by revealing how lax security had become. My own personal feelings on nuclear weapons is a little mixed. Personally, as a fan of space exploration, I still think a cool way to reduce the world stockpile of nuclear bomb materials would be build some Orion starships :)
  7. I'm still not sure where I interjected any controversial opinion into anything. I try to avoid such things. My only opinion was that they "probably did us a favor". If you think that is false, please explain why, because the only things I can think of would be that either you think that it's better if the lax security continued, that you think this actually made security weaker, or that you would rather prefer that bomb-grade, highly enriched uranium was a freely available substance to be stolen? Just a little confused here
  8. So that's not the way it's supposed to work? Come to think of it, I have noticed this, but I think I just developed the habit of only going into point mode when I need to, and always being in area mode when slewing. As to whether it's a bug, I really don't know- I am no expert in A-10C avoinics. I am much more knowledgeable about other areas of the game, but as far as the A-10C goes, I just "fly" the thing. If you think there's a bug with A-10C avionics, contact someone like paulrkii or Eddie and ask them, those guys have an unhealthy obsession for all things Warthog related :D
  9. Sorry, just making chit-chat about military and aviation stuff- isn't that what this forum is for? And yes, they did us all a favor by pointing out that security is not tight enough. One of the most effective ways to force an improvement in security is probably an incident like this- highly embarrassing and public. Would you rather it have been half a dozen guys with AK-47s? Having this stuff get stolen would be bad for everyone.
  10. :no_sad: http://news.yahoo.com/troubling-ineptitude-security-u-nuclear-bomb-plant-164330752--sector.html Gotta admit, these anti-nuclear activists probably did us all a favor!
  11. Probably no worse than mercury, the main danger is toxicity, I think:
  12. You left out the key: Bearing, Range and Altitude from your aircraft. Meanwhile, "bullseye" refers to bearing, range and altitude from the bullseye.
  13. http://www.theonion.com/video/nasa-asks-russians-to-stop-filming-porn-on-interna,29342/ "... there are no rules in space."
  14. No, "Prove" was the correct spelling- the original thread title meant "it will prove its landing method". It used an untested landing method that a lot of people thought was too complex and would never work.
  15. No, that doesn't work. I cannot connect to a server through direct IP, unless I have seen the server list first. It will try for a little bit then tell me "can't connect".
  16. In other incredible space photo news, check out this new photo returned from the Cassini mission:
  17. Yea, don't lock (go into point mode). There is absolutely no reason you have to lock a target in the TGP unless that target is moving. Also, I've seen people complaining about how the TGP cursors will jump sometimes, especially if they are like, looking at targets in a town. I think this is user error- they are leaving the TGP in point mode while trying to slew, so of course the TGP is jumping around, trying to point-track various objects it sees.
  18. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere but, if you're using 1024 resolution of cockpit displays, or even worse, 1024 every frame, try reducing it to 512 or 256. Generally, I don't think it's a good idea to use 1024 res cockpit displays unless you have a very good computer. 512 res displays still look pretty good, and are MUCH less resource-hungry. 256 res displays are even less resource-hungry of course, but they can look kinda bad. Also, if you are getting really horrible frame rates in a specific mission, see if there are any AI aircraft. There is an issue with 1.2.0 where AI aircraft formations flying over specific areas at slow speeds can massively reduce the frame rate, so you want to be on the look out for that.
  19. Yes, that's the work-around for the connection interrupted/disconnection/warping issues in multiplayer. Obviously, it is not applicable to the crash on connection to master server issue.
  20. 1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1? Install the radio patch mod I made for it, that's one of the problems it fixes. This problem is fixed in 1.2.0.
  21. Supposedly it's the thermal expansion of the ocean's waters that does most of the flooding. On the surface, except for the sea level rise, you'd think global warming would be a good thing, wouldn't you? After all, like 15,000 years ago, warming temperatures ended the last glacial period of the current ice age, and made Earth MUCH more habitable. And shouldn't warmer temperatures mean more evaporation, and hence, more rain? There's an established history of warming trends in earth's climate being beneficial to humanity. Also, to someone uneducated about plant life, you'd think having more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would be good for plants? However, climatologists love to play the spoil sport- they say more carbon dioxide will acidify the oceans, will not really help plants (plants already have enough), and yes, we'll have more rainfall, but it's supposedly not going to be evenly distributed so we'll get severe droughts in some spots, and severe flooding in others. Every thing you would think would be good about global warming, the climatologists have ways of turning around to make it bad. I wonder what climatologists would say if they were around at the end of the glacial period? Besides the sea level rise (and ocean acidity rise that is supposed to occur, and the deleterious effects that will supposedly cause) why is just a little bit more warming so bad? I'm not saying global warming would be a good thing- the effects on the oceans are bad enough to want to avoid it- but the rest of it- stuff like Great Britain becoming a desert (or depending on who you ask, covered in a glacier), the endless category 5 hurricanes supposedly coming, the monsoons and/or continental dust bowls... it's just a little hard to swallow, especially given the past history of warming trends being beneficial. I think that most likely, the effects are not going to be as severe as that, and some effects may actually be helpful.
  22. Great! When I joined my first Falcon 4 squadron, they had this entrance exam to do all these maneuvers- high speed over the top, low speed over the top, 400 knot 360 degree turn at 6 gs, etc... easy! I thought. After the second or third attempt I was beginning to think it was impossible! That's when I found out how inefficient I had always been with my turns. Before, I had always turned too hard, needlessly wasting energy. All squads should use a similar entrance exam!
  23. Upload a track to the forums. You should be able to do loops, Immelmanns, knife-edge passes, even stall turns (though I doubt that the later is ever performed by real A-10 pilots). After flying a mission, hit the button "Save Track". The track will be saved in C:\Users\<your account name>\Saved Games\DCS\Tracks. Multiplayer tracks are saved automatically (time-stamped) in .\Tracks\Multiplayer. Here's a track of me doing some aerobatics at 50% fuel. Your aircraft SHOULD handle like this. aerobatics.trk
  24. The problem is, this "solution" does not work, for the majority of people at the very least. It seems it is not possible to connect via IP unless you've seen the server list first. And every time most people (or all people) switch from LAN to Internet while this problem is occurring, they CTD immediately. :( Likewise, running DCS as administrator will not solve this issue, but it might solve other issues. In general, running DCS as administrator is a good idea, and it's probably one of the first things you should do when having problems with the game. IMO, you should do it BEFORE you have any problems with the game :)
  25. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1526738&postcount=17 If the grid is 400 nm away, just enter the other UTM zone (it will either be 37T or 38T on Caucasus map). Unfortunately, the mod is a little delayed, but I'll probably get around to it soon.
