I've had this happen, and I have no idea what causes it. I had guessed it might be a rare bug with certain runways, but that was just my guess based on zero research into the subject. Basically, you'll be approaching rotation speed when WHAMO- there is a loud noise (sorta like a tire bursting) and you are literally catapulted into the air. Maybe if we tracked down the sound file that is played, we might know more about what this is. Maybe you're right, it's related to nosewheel steering. That would explain why I get this issue so rarely- I always (or at least, I try to remember to always) turn off nosewheel steering once I get above 50 knots or so.

The problem has nothing to do with the Master Server. The problem occurs when the data in the internet server list triggers a bug in your local 1.2.0 that causes the game to crash. Most likely, you would have this problem even if the Master Server login did not exist at all, as even before we had the Master Server login, we had an internet server list. So the Master Server is entirely blameless.

Ok, server administration tools are largely complete, possibly fully complete, at least, for Slmodv6.2. I'm willing to give you guys access to them before I release Slmodv6.2 if you guys are willing to report any issues you have/provide suggestions. This feature should allow private dedicated servers/continuously monitored public servers to forego the use of Servman entirely. Here are the current commands: Type "-admin" or "-admin help" in chat to see the list of admin commands. These commands are: Type "-admin kick <player name>" to kick a player from the server. Type "-admin ban <player name>" to ban a player from the server. Type "-admin unban <player name>" to unban a player from the server (you could potentially unban multiple people, if they had the same name). Type "-admin add <player name>" to add a player to the list of server admins. Type "-admin remove <player name>" to remove a player from the list of server admins. Type "-admin pause" to toggle pause on/off. Type "-admin restart" to restart the current missions. Type "-admin load" to view a list of missions that can be loaded (after you use this command and view the list, you can select a mission and load it). Administrator status is determined by UCID- so there is no logging in, and even if you change your name, you will still be a server admin. People are banned by both UCID and IP. Currently, it is in a testing state, but everything I've tested works fine. Instructions: 0) Download and extract the attached "Slmodv042.zip" file. You will have two files, server.lua, MissionScripting.lua, and a folder, "Slmodv042". 1) In <DCS Install Directory>\Scripts, rename MissionScripting.lua to MissionScripting_original.lua. Paste the new "MissionScripting.lua" file you just extracted into this location. 2) In <DCS Install Directory>\Scripts\net, rename "server.lua" to server_original.lua. Paste the new "server.lua" file you just extracted into this location. ALSO, paste the entire Slmodv042 folder into this location. --USAGE DIRECTIONS-- Now that you have it installed, Slmod will need to create the necessary folder directories. Start DCS Multiplayer, and exit after you see the Master Server login. Check <Windows Install Drive>\Users\<Your User Account Name>\Saved Games\DCS - you should have a new folder, "Slmod". Inside .\Slmod\, you should have a config.lua file and a "Missions" folder. Server host is by default only the initial server admin. When you add new server admins, they are added to a new file, .\Slmod\ServerAdmins.lua (similarly, banned clients are added to BannedClients.lua) Thus, to load someone else's admin list, simply paste it into the <Windows Install Drive>\Users\<Your User Account Name>\Saved Games\DCS\Slmod\ folder. The same would be true if you wanted to load someone else's ban list. To add missions to the list of missions that server admins can load, simply add the missions into the <Windows Install Drive>\Users\<Your User Account Name>\Saved Games\DCS\Slmod\Missions\ folder. Radio Patch for DCS v1.1.1.1 v1
Speed replied to Speed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Sorry, not valid for 1.2.0. In 1.2.0, there is a JTAC radio bug with getting remarks, and you can fix that with a file I uploaded: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1545567&postcount=50 Basically, I decided not to create a radio patch for 1.2.0, as many of the issues should be fixed in 1.2.1, and my time is short- I'd rather spend my time helping to improve the quality of 1.2.1 so everyone can enjoy it, than create a mod for 1.2.0 that only a few people will use, and which a significant portion of the mod's useful life has already passed anyway. However, I am considering a radio mod for 1.2.1. -
The solar-powered Opportunity rover, which landed nearly nine Earth-years ago, hasn't quit just because it's got a bigger and better sister now. She's found yet another interesting rock scientists would really love to examine in a lab. What the heck are these spherules in this rock? Scientists do not know.

How big was the "clip"? :P *runs away*

Hehe... I did this to an A-10 pilot the other day, who thought it would be cute to do a low angle strafing run on the T-72 I was driving. Took his entire left wing off with a 125mm APFSDS round :) Hmm... my worst failure was coming online once after getting only a few hours of sleep for a few days in a row. I get in the squad's server we were running for training and screwing off. I start annihilating all the vehicles and static objects at the base without even thinking about it- we often would have fun just blowing crap up around the base (we'd just reset the mission if we wanted them back). So I line up on a nice juicy row of planes (the mission creator had placed several static object planes all over the base). I'm so tired it doesn't even register to me that the plane is an A-10 taxiing, and about to take the runway. I blow him away with a 200 round burst. He wasn't too happy.

It would be nice to know your computer specs. Tacview shouldn't cause any issues, but it is generating some kind of error in your log files. Even so, it's very unlikely to be the cause of your CTD troubles. I do Lua modding myself, and it's hard (and getting harder) to deliberately cause a CTD, so causing one by accident with a Lua mod is extremely rare. Still.. maybe you could always try a new, full, clean install. Maybe you installed the mod incorrectly or something. If you go this path, also make sure you rename, move, or delete the C:\Users\wkdenholm\Saved Games\DCS folder. DCS will automatically recreate one. With a clean slate, what happens?

New user - which aircraft would you buy?
Speed replied to Horrgakx's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
All of them? :) Ka-50 is pretty easy- once you have flying down. Avionics are simple 1980s Russian avioncis. A-10 is much more complex, but easy to fly. Boring to fly even, at least compared to a heli. The joy with the A-10 is in its advanced avoinics and weapons. -
You probably (unconsciously or not) tried to keep your settings across patches, which can cause problems. As the game is updated, the settings can change, and if you try to keep old settings from old DCS versions, you can have problems. In this case, you need to delete C:\Users\<Your Account Name>\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\ka-50\keyboard\Keyboard.lua. In fact, my own personal recommendation is to entirely delete all the keyboard settings in C:\Users\<Your Account Name>\Saved Games\DCS folder after installing a new patch. It looks like Turbohog has instructions for adding the key binding for the radio button, but that's not the only keep binding added with 1.2.0 that you will not have if you are using an old Keyboard.lua. You will have trouble with Combined Arms too. It's best to just do a clean sweep. In fact, I prefer backing up all my missions, and then deleting the ENTIRE C:\Users\<Your Account Name>\Saved Games\DCS folder. After its deleted, the game will automatically restore it. After it's automatically restored, I just manually restore all my old missions  As far as the campaign missions go, you would need to modify them yourself in the mission editor. Change the player aircraft from "Start on Runway" to "Start on Ramp". However, be advised, the missions may be timed in such a way that this could mess them up. Most missions would be fine, however.

Use the new radio switch, it's RALT-\ The \ key has been changed to just open any active radio menu.

Note the use of the words: "it would seem that", "probably", "most likely", etc. So, to reiterate again, I do not know this for a fact, but it would certainly seem that the master server is not at fault here, just based on these observations: 1) The master server is in fact not down, you can log into it with internal beta versions and 1.1.1.1 just fine, hence, half the reason why many online squads are staying with version 1.1.1.1. 2) The problem only occurs when you try to view the server list. If you login in LAN mode, you connect to the master server just fine, but as soon as you try to view internet servers, the game crashes. I'm not sure what you mean by the "master server list". There is no "master server list". There is the list of internet servers. We had a multiplayer interface that would provide us with a list of internet servers long before the master server login ever existed. I would suspect that this is provided by some server (though I know next to nothing about network programming), but the problem is not with this server it would seem- otherwise, ED could fix this in a jiffy on their end, without a patch, and this problem would probably appear in internal versions and 1.1.1.1. As far as the active servers not being shown on server list, I don't know much about that bug, I have not been pursuing it myself (yes I am aware of it though). Even if I did know something about whether or not it's fixed, it may not be my place to tell you whether it's fixed in internal versions.
-
The master server is NOT down, and I think the master server has a downtime of only a few hours a year, if that. I can't remember a time when it was down, ever (though on this forum I did see complaints of a bug, fixed perhaps 8 months ago, that occasionally prevented some people from logging in). What is happening is that the game is crashing when it attempts to display the server list. It would seem then that the issue lies in the code to display the server list. It would seem that most likely, the master server is only guilty by association- by default, the last thing you do before attempting to display the list of internet servers is connect to the master server, so people wrongly associate the problem with the master server. So now, people are angry at ED's very non-intrusive and reliable master server, when the master server probably has nothing to do with the problem in the first place, and even if the master server did not exist at all, we'd still have the same issue.
-
Your anger is quite understandable. My online flight time is suffering too because of this issue. However, in this aspect you are quite wrong: The problem was acknowledged by the devs, as we told you like a month ago. Devs loaded up an old version of the software, and were able to reproduce, but no one was able to reproduce in newer, internal builds, and this we also told you like a month ago. You didn't believe us until c0ff came on here and told you himself? Please, just try to sit tight, and hope we can get that next patch as soon as possible.

Other players can´t open my missionfile in missioneditor
Speed replied to JaBoG32_Herby's topic in Mission Editor Issues
Beczl's vehicle pack is known to cause issues like this, most likely, that is the problem. It's not a fault of his vehicle pack, it's just that if you're using the vehicle pack, you'd better be aware that if you use any of the vehicles in your mission, people who don't have the mod installed will not be able to open your mission. -
Other players can´t open my missionfile in missioneditor
Speed replied to JaBoG32_Herby's topic in Mission Editor Issues
That's correct, Slmod causes no problems with the mission editor. You can even get rid of the Lua error pop ups for people who don't have Slmod installed if you want, just do this: if slmod then slmod.<function name> end Now Lua errors won't pop up if the server host does not have Slmod installed, because the script first checks to see if Slmod even exists before it tries to run the slmod function. However, it may be your mission won't work without Slmod, in which case, better to leave the Lua pop-up errors in it. -
Clarifying what is needed to run FC 3
Speed replied to Bluedrake42's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You must install DCS World of course, DCS World is the core that all modules (including FC3) plug in to. -
Which just shows another way in which DCS is superior to other flight simulation engines.

LOL "90% to 95% piracy rates"... AHAHAHA They have some really strong drugs at Ubisoft. (Then again, might it be possible that on some games, like Silent Hunter V, they drove away all the actual customers and left only the pirates?) As far as ED goes- you should not compare this to ED's DRM. You are free to play DCS offline as much as you want. You just must maintain an internet connection to play over the internet- duh. Maybe there is a valid complaint for a small subset of LAN play where you have no internet, and I have heard reports of bugs with the master server where some folks were unable to log in- but... well, how many of you were in an online squad during DCS BS1/FC2 days? I was. I saw many cases of people sharing activations and basically stealing the game from ED. Not nice to have your hard work stolen from you. OH BUT WAIT, WHAT ABOUT THE CURRENT CRASH ON MASTER SERVER CONNECT? Well, the current crash on master server connection issue is probably not the master server's fault- the problem does not actually occur when you connect to the master server, the problem occurs when you attempt to view the server list. So it's quite possible that even if the master server were to not exist, we'd have the same problem. Instead of having a master server connection box first, you'd just start multiplayer and boom, it would crash when you tried to view internet games.

We just formed the Virtual Tactical Air Group after all the DCS pilots left the 1st VFW due to some decisions made by the 1st VFW leaders. We'll be flying everything DCS, and will focus on getting a realistic battlefield experience by integrating ground, fixed wing, and rotary wing human players. http://vtacticalairgroup.com/

Radio Patch for DCS v1.1.1.1 v1
Speed replied to Speed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Well, I donno about the JTAC UTM zone not being included in comms. It might be argued that it is more realistic for the JTAC to omit UTM zone in many circumstances. Thinking about it, I've thought a way that may be better. A variable in Lua keeps track of the last UTM zone that was given by JTAC. The first time a set of MGRS coordinates are given by JTAC, then JTAC gives the UTM zone, but after that, the UTM zone is omitted UNLESS IT CHANGES. This might be a little too complex to implement in a timely manner, however- for example, what happens when there are multiple JTACs speaking? There are some unresolved design questions. Maybe, it's just best to include it all the time. -
Radio Patch for DCS v1.1.1.1 v1
Speed replied to Speed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Did you install it into 1.2.0? This is for DCS 1.1.1.1. Also, the file names, "_original" etc, those could actually be any name. "_original" is just to allow you to easily identify the original files. Also, go into folder options for windows (search "folder options" from the start menu), and uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types". That's a horrible option that should be removed from windows. It's a really freaking terrible idea to hide such vital information as file extensions from users. Anyway, if you still have issues, try to use JTAC, then immediately upload dcs.log to the forums. I did create a minor fix for the JTAC no remarks problem, FOR 1.2.0, get it here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1524369&postcount=11 I'm thinking about finally getting a radio mod created for 1.2.0 soon. As in, if I'm going to do it, it will be in the next few days. Understand it's also a question of whether my time spent on DCS is better spent making a mod to fix some issues, or finding issues and reporting them so that a mod is not needed in the first place. Also a radio patch for 1.2.0 would be incompatible with that Ka-50 JTAC mod by Turbohog, so we would need to possibly include both mods as one... -
Didn't you know? He's not a man. Viper is a self-aware software construct residing entirely within the ED forums. At least, that's the best theory I can come up with ;)

I'm in the same boat as you- frankly, I don't care much about skins or 3D models- if you're flying and not "cheating" with external views, you simply won't see them very much. However, judging on the number of skins upgrade packs, and excitement generated whenever new and improved 3D models are introduced, we may be in the minority in this respect. There are situations where you will notice them, however, even if you don't use externals: Close formation/refueling. Takeoff and landing (taxiing near parked aircraft or other aircraft you see taxiing). To me, having a nice cockpit is much more important- and FC3 introduces that wonderful F-15 pit :)
