  1. I just wanted to say that the OP of this thread has started flying with our group and is really liking flying with us and we're liking flying with him, he's a pretty cool guy. So if anyone else is interested just drop a PM. We're always looking to add pilots top our group.
  2. My first contribution. Here is a mission I made called "Marines on the Beach". In this scenario Iran is going to close the Straits of Hormuz so POTUS sends in the marines to keep it open and they need air support to hold their beachhead. The briefing spells everything out pretty well so I won't go into that. This mission is best with at least 3 pilots, but can be flown alone if you like, and has your choice of Hornets or Harriers from 2 carriers and includes tankers if you need them. One note, the Qeshm airport MUST be bombed for the mission to proceed. There is a trigger zone there that HAS to be tripped for anything further to happen. I'm a little shy about posting this because I'm sure there are some very professional missions in this topic but my squad mates enjoyed flying this so I hope you will too. Have fun and remember....the marines are counting on you!!! Marines On the Beach4.2.miz
  3. Hey guys, I've been reading these posts and they sound like me a year ago. About a year ago I asked in these forums about a squadron to join and received a very kind response from a member of AG-51. I accepted his invitation to fly with them and very soon after I joined them officially because it was so much fun and they are such a good bunch of guys. We have official "squad nights" on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 9 PM CST, USA time. We fly as long or as short as everyone feels like flying with the average time being 3 hours or so. But guys come and go as they please. We have no attendance or flight time requirements. You only show up and fly when you want to, real life always comes first. We are a mature group, with ages ranging from early 30's to late 60's. We probably have 15 or so regulars with an average squad night attendance of 7-10 guys. We have some very good mission builders in our group so we always have some fresh missions to fly. We also have 2 real life pilots in our group, so there is lots of real life knowledge that is shared in our group. We are always looking for pilots who just want to have fun while trying at least a little bit to keep it real life. We are a carrier based squadron concentrating on the Hornet and the Harrier right now, but all planes and levels of experience are welcome and you can fly any aircraft you like on any given night as long as it's included in our mission. When I joined I only had the free SU-25T and could just barely land it and they taught me how to get better quickly in a very friendly manner. If someone messes up we tease and make fun of them and then move on, and we all mess up so there's plenty to go around! We use TeamSpeak to communicate in game so you would need to have that, and we're an English speaking group. We have members in all 4 U.S. time zones and we have a Canadian, an Aussie from Queensland Australia and a member in Japan. So obviously no one is excluded. Anyway, if anyone is looking for a fun group to fly with in a low (no) pressure atmosphere while still trying to do proper carrier ops and so on, or if you're just curious and would like to ask a question, just shoot me a PM. And afterwards, if you like, we will get you set up to fly with us and you can see if we're a good fit for you or not.
  4. HAHA, I have to laugh because I experienced the same immersion. I was lowering the canopy on my F-18 and had my left hand resting on the arm rest of my chair and I jerked my hand out of the way because I instinctively thought the canopy was going to close on my hand. That's how real it is. I use a Lenovo Explorer WMR unit because I didn't want to spend tons of money and maybe not like it or have my computer not be able to run it. The Lenovo Explorer only cost me $118 on Amazon and it was the best thing I ever bought for DCS. I haven't used my TrackIR since. I can never go back.
  5. I have a Lenovo Explorer and like it very much. You should measure the total distance between the center of your pupils, not separately, you will get a much more accurate result which will help your FOV and clarity.
  6. If you have Discord lets get together, I'm on now, and we will get you going. Send me a pm here.
  7. Sorry man, got my weapons mixed up. You don't need an SOI for HARM's. Just select threat with FLIR/FOV button and fire. If there are a number of threats keep pushing FLIR/FOV button until you box the threat you want to shoot and fire weapon. It sounds like you're doing everything correctly. I had a time in a mission Saturday night where for some reason my FLIR/FOV button wouldn't cycle through the threats. A bit later it started working correctly.
  8. I use a Lenovo Explorer WMR and really like it. It doesn't need any external sensors for use in DCS so you just have the headset to hook up. And it only costs $118 on Amazon right now. I will never go back to a monitor now.
  9. I'm fairly new to WMR. What does Motion Reprojection do?
  10. I hear that!
  11. This isn't true. I always use my right DDI and it works fine. You just need to make sure the right side is you sensor of choice. Either side works.
  12. If your Mav is looking into an open sky you will get that blank image. Try pointing your Mav at a known land mass before you try anything else just to be sure it's not something super simple.
  13. I enjoy flying in VR at sunrise and at dusk. The colors look great. And some clouds in the sky add to the 3 d effect, seeing them drop below you as you climb looks so good.
  14. A little Windex and a microfiber cloth should help.
  15. Or you can have a friend buddy laze for you in an A-10.
  16. After reading this I tried it and it's the best solution I have found yet. It's not perfect by any means because it slows down the radar TDC but I can now reliably use my mavericks. I may tweak it a bit to see if I can find a happy medium for the mavs and radar but this is a good starting point anyway. Thanks LeCuvier.
  17. Are you guys still fighting this? Mine still is practically unusable with the problems stated above.
  18. Hey everyone. I joined a group called AG-51 (Air Group 51) and it completely changed my enjoyment level of DCS. I have so much fun now. We are a naval based group and most of us are spending most of our time learning the F-18 off of the carrier right now. But we have a couple of members that don't even own the F-18 and we always make sure we include what they fly in our missions. We are a mature group of fliers with members aging from early 30's to mid 60's, with our average age probably in the mid to late 50's. We have guys from USA, a Canadian, an Aussie from Queensland Australia and even a member in Japan. We have roughly 16-17 active members and our average squad night attendance is probably 8-10 guys. We have one real life airline pilot and one real life firefighting helicopter pilot in the group so real life experience is available to help members. We fly mainly to have fun enjoying our favorite flight sim together while still trying to do things as well as possible. We don't have any attendance requirements, you only show up when you can, real life always comes first. All skill levels are welcome. When I joined I was only flying the free SU-25T and could hardly even land it. The other fellas gave me advice and even some private lessons. We are all patient and understand that everyone has to begin sometime. We have some very talented mission builders in the group so there is always a fresh, challenging mission to be flown at your leisure alone or with the group. We fly every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening at 2200 eastern time and we keep flying until everyone decides to call it a night, sometimes it'll be 2 hours, sometimes it may be as long as 5 hours if we're really having fun. But you can come and go as you please. We have members from every time zone so people are leaving when their schedule dictates. Our newest member joined just 2 weeks ago. If anyone would like to check us out by just coming onto our server and watching or by flying with us just drop me a PM and we will go from there. FYI, we use TeamSpeak to communicate in game at this point in time so you will need that and you need to speak English, those are our only requirements. Please don't be afraid to check us out. Here is a link to out public forum and there is a lot more info available in the private members sections. http://airgroup51.net/forum/index.php

  20. Disappears when not looking outside or when looking at HUD.
  21. Well, Sparky is a happy camper again. I got tired of forking around with this problem so I un-installed the game and re-installed. HMD is working like a charm again. No idea what the problem was but the re-install was easy peasy so all is right with the world.
  22. None at all. It just disappeared overnight. How do I reinstall an update?
  23. I must have not explained myself very well. I have no HMD display at all. But I get a sound tone when I look at a heat source like it’s there, just not visible.
  24. Hello everyone. I had an oddball problem arise with my helmet display. When I did the mini update on Thursday evening that included the new helmet display everything worked great and I was amazed at what it did and how it worked. On Friday I did the next hot fix mini update and fired the game up and my helmet display didn't work correctly. I got the small inner circle but not the larger outer circle on my HUD whenever I looked towards the HUD but when I looked away from the HUD it disappeared and there is no indication of a helmet display at all. But when I select a 9x and look at the sun I get a tone. So the display is there and working, it's just not showing up on my screen. I play in VR and I know it only shows in the right eye, but everything else is full VR so I can't believe it's my VR unit. Does anyone have any ideas at all? The knob for brightness is turned all the way up and I did 3 repairs, nothing helps. Thanks in advance for any ideas!!!
