The F-18, primarily. I can get the pilot out of other aircraft by “ejecting” on the ramp, and then I can walk him away from the plane, but that doesn’t work for the F-18.
-
Thanks. Thanks. Isn't it possible to edit the helmet, flight suit, etc, of the pilot? Might it be possible to edit those items, and make them transparent? I'm trying to edit other people into my DCS replays, and it's difficult to do so when there's a pilot in the seat. If I could reduce the pilot to only a head, say, then I can overlay another video on top of it.
-
Not even sure which section to put this in, so I'll start here. I know how to remove the pilot in cockpit view, but once I go external, he's back, and I can't seem to figure out a way to remove him. I know, I know, "EJECT!". :smilewink: Is there a way to do this, or to customize a plane to not include the pilot? On a related note, is there a way to reproduce the instrument panel "GoPro" view, looking directly aft from the panel? I can't get zoomed out far enough, and can't pivot past 8 or 4 o'clock. Thanks in advance.

Bought the Buttkicker Gamer 2 Specifically for F-14 - love it
dmwierz replied to flameoutme's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Andre specifically excludes DCS in his software, apparently, which is odd, as he is an active member of the community here. -
Cool! I have the OG Odyssey, so that's encouraging. Thanks.

Maybe, but... Demi, thanks. That might work, but I'm running a WMR headset. Would have to see if I can get it to work in SteamVR.

Just ran across this and, without knowing anything about what lies under the hood of DCS, is getting the El Gato Streamdeck to display in DCS like this guy does in X-Plane something like that's even possible?

Link not working Updated link? This one is broken. Thanks.

Did this ever come to anything?

Did anything ever come of this effort? I've been browsing the forum, and these "P-51 Throttle Projects" seem to start off with a ton of enthusiasm, then they just fade away.

TM TWCS Throttle Controller in VR w/ Hornet
dmwierz replied to dmwierz's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Thanks. I've used Target before to set up configurations, but it never seemed to enter into DCS' VR configurations. Something funky seems to happen when you select VR. -
I've been configuring my TWCS Throttle Controller for use with the Hornet, and continue to run into the same problem I've had in the past with the flappy things (paddles) that are located in front, when I try to use them for zooming. In VR, there seems to be no way to bind these to their obvious use for Zoom In/Zoom out. The VR Zoom is a momentary contact thing, and I've bound this to one of the yellow buttons just above the paddles, but would really like to use these buttons for something else. I believe it's because the paddles are considered an axis in DCS? Any suggestions?
-
This is really helpful, thanks.
-
I can see the ball by using the VR Zoom with my Odyssey right around 3/4 of a mile. This is a compromise, I know, as I should be able to see it without zooming, but it's a compromise I can live with, as the other benefits of flying the Hornet in VR far outweigh it.
-
With an Odyssey, using the momentary-contact VR Zoom button, I can read every single letter and number on everything in the cockpit. Even without using the VR Zoom, I can read all of the needles on the instruments, and if I want to look closer, I just look at the instrument or location, VR Zoom in, and everything is clear.

For a seated experience like DCS, why spend >$1,000 when you can get a complete setup with the identical displays for $400 in the Samsung Odyssey? I know some will say it’s not available in Europe, but check out the Mixed Reality TV YouTube channel for a dude in Germany who gives all the details about how to import one for a moderate premium. Disclaimer: I am a very happy Odyssey owner. The only negative issue I’ve had is when I’ve tried to play a non-seated (room scale) game and had to pull a long bow behind my back, and momentarily lost my controller tracking. What percentage of my overall playing time does that represent? <1% probably.
-
Should you switch, probably not. If you were starting from scratch, I'd say "absolutely". I never use the hand controllers when flying (or car racing sim, either). I turn them off, and use my HOTAS, TPM, flight stick, etc. The resolution bump for the Odyssey is noticeable, and I'm glad that's the direction I went, but if I had a Rift or a Vive already, I'd wait for the true Second Generation (not the Vive Pro, BTW, IMO) technology.
-
...or even the Odyssey...
-
The Vive Pro, HMD only, is currently available for pre-order at $799 for the HMD only. You'll have to buy two hand controllers and two base stations. On HTC's web site, you can get a bundle of all this for around $1,250 (see my screen capture). I'm sorry...that's insane. I mean, for $50 more, you can get an entire Vive set-up, including a spare HMD. I believe HTC may have lost their collective mind. For a LOT less money ($399 when it's on sale; $499 when not), you can get the same exact display as the Vive Pro, similar HMD features, two controllers, and inside-out tracking (no need for base stations/lighthouses), in other words, a complete package, with a Samsung Odyssey. Even if you believe all the nonsense about the WMD headsets having less accurate tracking than the Vive (something I've personally never experienced in a single room-scale or seated VR experience or game, after two months of extensive use), if you're looking at doing mostly flying and racing sims, hand controller tracking accuracy is a moot point.

This is SUCH a subjective topic, and SUCH an overdone topic. We all have opinions on what is and is not acceptable image quality. Until you try it, you won't know, and no amount of online opinions will or should mean anything to you. I'm a professional photographer, and image quality is PRIMARY to me, both in my pro life, and my hobbies. I loved my four screen flight sim setup in X-Plane 11 (was only able to run the front 50" 4K screen at 1080p due to driving 4 x 1080p displays), and the images were crisp. When I ran the front screen solo at its native 4K, it was spectacular. Then...I borrowed a friend's Rift, and thought "Uh oh, this is something entirely new", and found myself having an argument with myself about how much image quality I'd be willing to give up in return for the immersion of VR. Then...I gave back his Rift, and when the price came down to $399 a few weeks back, I bought my own Samsung Odyssey, and I have not looked back. I've disassembled my 4 screen set-up, put two of the screens in guest bedrooms in our house, and kept the smaller screen for use in my room-scale VR location which is back-to-back with my cockpit-based simpit. No, the image quality is nowhere near 4K, but in my (professional) opinion, it's far better than the 800x600 mentioned above. It's VERY dependent on getting your HMD properly adjusted, for IPD and sweet spot, and getting the in-game settings nailed down. It's also very dependent on source quality. Some of the GoPro 360 videos are laughably low quality, as are things like NextVR, but other things, like X-Plane and even DCS, are amazingly high res. I can easily read most of the writing on the instrument panel, and what I can't read, I can zoom in on. To be honest, that's exactly what I had to do when running my 4 screen x 1080p setup - could read most, and zoomed in to read the rest. But, it doesn't matter what I, or anyone else types here. Go try it yourself, and if possible, try it on your computer, on your sim, in your house. Barring being able to do this, buy one on Amazon, try it, and if you don't like it, return it within 30 days.

Excellent news. I don't use the twist on the Glad MkII anyway, so no loss. Will it be straightforward to swap from the MCG back to the original Gladiator MkII grip, for going from modern to WWII aircraft?

Configure Mouse Scroll Wheel for Elevator Trim
dmwierz replied to dmwierz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok, thanks for the help. Looks too much like programming, and I just don't have the time to play around with that. Yeah, I'm an engineer, and sure I could probably figure it out, but I'm already struggling to get enough time in my sim as it is, what with working two jobs. Don't want to be spending time programming ad debugging stuff like this. I'll just use the buttons on my flight stick or throttle. -
Configure Mouse Scroll Wheel for Elevator Trim
dmwierz replied to dmwierz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks, but unfortunately, I have no idea what most of that means, other than "the trackball might have software where you can re-map the buttons/wheel " m.scroll up = trim up? m.scroll down = trim down? autohotkey? I guess I'll go off the the land of Google. Having flown a bit IRL, trim wheels are, if I'm not mistaken, not always on/off switches. I've flown some aircraft with trim switches on the yoke, but planes such as the Cessna 172 have elevator trim wheels that, IIRC, roll almost limitlessly forward and backward.
