Hey there. I love the Harrier. It is my favorite module, especially when taking off and landing from Tarawa. But I play in SP, and unfortunately this complicates a lot things. After having done most of the usual SP campaigns, I have started using dynamic content such as DCE or Liberation. Those can and should be fun, the problem is that the status of the whole DCS AI make things worst for the Harrier than any other module, at least in my experience. AI wingmen can’t take off from Tarawa unless they don’t have weapons loaded. They can’t land. And they often end up burning fuel much faster than myself. Before stopping again using the Harrier for some months out of frustration, going back to some other module and then trying back the Harrier after a while to see if anything changes... I need to know... Is there anything I am missing that I should do so to have my wingmen suddenly able to takeoff and land on the Tarawa with my same payload ? Any trick or advice you can offer to be able to enjoy the Harrier in SP ?

Hey there, now that the Tarawa spawning problems seems to be fixed, any chance to update the AV8B campaigns to start back on the Carrier ?

I hope so. The Harrier had suffered from various problems in spawning on Tarawa since forever... and it seems that this depends on ED breaking stuff that Razbam can’t fix, and ED neither as the Tarawa it's not theirs. Or at least there is no other way to explain why the Harrier can’t correctly spawn on the Tarawa since eons.

I always thought about the F14 as an A2A platform, and I love to learn it and use it as this in DCS. While going through the training missions etc, so far I've refused to do A2G missions, and I'm skipping it within the DCE campaign I'm progressing in. It's not that I'm against A2G: I love the Harrier or the F18 and I'm learning and doing A2G on those aircrafts... but I find myself refusing the idea of doing A2G with the Tomcat. I have this weird idea (too much Top Gun...) that even at the time, ground pounding was an A6/A7/F18 business, leaving to the F14 the A2A task, and maybe going for A2G just in desperate situations where no other platform was available... Anyway I want to check with you guys more experienced than me on the real F14 history. Without talking about "capability" (as I understand that the F14 is A2G capable)... was the Tomcat really used for A2G missions, or was it just as a "last chance" possibility ? Has there been real F14 A2G historic significant missions ?

Thanks for the infos: I was hoping Jester could use DL infos as a normal player and leverage on it to establish contacts/locks without needing player input/micromanagement (obviously assuming player pilot is steering the aircraft to allow for it) but it seems my expectations were a bit too high :-)

One thing that could help would be to get a general direction about expected Jester behavior, so to avoid reporting false issues. I’ve often got into similar situation to the OP. My aircraft is pointing at the enemy aircrafts, I even see DL symbols on my display, but Jester can’t get a lock, or even target those DL contacts. Now, my expectation would be that a RIO, and so Jester, would be able to see those same DL contacts and target them by using the radar, obviously if I am pointing the F14 to those same contacts. But it often doesn’t happen, and so I am not sure if this is a bug I should report, or if it’s a “work as designed” that Jester can’t understand E2 calls and/or DL contacts and use it to target contacts I am pointing at. By knowing how Jester is designed to work in various situation, especially considering outside info such as AWAC calls or DL info, would help in avoiding unnecessary reports here and use the AI in the correct way.

Will try with TWS Auto and see if I get better results... So far even switching between RWS/TWS didn't brought consistent results. And BTW, I assume Jester (or a RIO) should be able to look for those Target by himself, as we already get the contacts from the E2...

Hey there, I wonder if there's any way to have Jester "using" DL contacts to search and lock targets. I'm using DCE campaigns (Tomcat over Caucasus) but I assume it's the same also in other missions: I get DL targets on the display, but Juster often seems not to see it or use it, even when they are in range. I understand Jester has some limits and shouldn't see what is not "visible" by the radar, but if there's an E2 assisting, I also assume a RIO should be able to use DL information to search and find targets. Is there any specific command or "best practice" I should use to be sure that Jester can rely also on DL info to lock some targets, or Jester simply don't/can't use DL info ?

Same here... I miss my wingmen... All my Dynamic Campaign Engine missions doesn't work anymore... -
Sad thing is that most of those long standing issues are because of ED faults, not Razbam... but who gets less products sold is Razbam... I hope they will get some sort of compensation from ED tough...

Any news about the broken Tarawa spawning ? I understand Harrier it’s not a DCS module, anyway it’s now quite a lot of time without any progress even for something DCS has to do for somebody else module... See also here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=258030

Weird... after restarting the PC I can see now the campaign in game. Did a quick mission and it works. Thanks anyway !

Hey there, I'm trying everything written here (F16 Over PG) but so far I wasn't even able to have Campaigns to show up in game within the Campaign menu of the F16: is there anything I'm missing ? (already installed F16 Over PG by strictly following the readme and did all the updates to luas and cmp with the correct folder name and with the latest downloadable one)

I did what in the readme and then what Zortex did but I'm not even able to see the Campaign in game (within the campaign session of the F16 selection menu)... It seems we'll better wait...

Now it works and my Harrier is correctly spawning on Tarawa. Thanks ! Anyway it seems there's still some issue going on as most of the FA18 NPCs are crashing on spawn (see attached rtf as before). DCS DCE ISSUE 2 EVERYONE CRASHES.rtf.zip

Tried it... no go... mission starts from Vinson (sorry, not the Stennis). I have attached a rtf doc (simply rename it by removing the .zip part) with 2 screenshots. First one is the result of firstmission.bat, which shows the Stennis as the assigned catapult slot. Second screenshot is from the Mission Planner, where you can see that the player aircraft is placed on Stennis and not on Tarawa... Am I the only one with this issue ? DCS DCE ISSUE.rtf.zip

Hey there, may I ask you to also correct the spawning of the Harrier in the LHA Caucasus campaign ? Every mission start from the Stennis rather than the Tarawa. It happen only on the Caucasus campaign. Thanks !

Guys, tried reinstalling Harrier over Caucasus - LHA several times, anyway the problem is always there... I'm spawned over the Stennis as an F14 (even if I'm in the Harrier)... Nobody else with this problem ? Reinstalled everything (last versions) several times, restarted the campaign... Nothing works. My Harrier keeps spawning on the Stennis and not on the Tarawa... EDIT: tried Harrier over PG: no problems there. The Harrier spawns on Stennis just in the Caucasus - LHA campaign. EDIT 2: it seems also the Harrier over PG - LHA has some problems... all my first missions tried start with several Hornets crashing. Not sure what is happening on the Stennis deck... EDIT 3: tried Harrier over Cacuasus LHA also without 1.0.7 updates... no change: Harrier is always spawned together on the Stennis (not on Tarawa). Anyway it seems that both the Harrier LHA campaigns (Caucasus and PG) have problems... anybody else got the same issues or am I alone (asking because I went through the usual reinstall DCE campaigns, restart campaigns etc and nothing works...) ?
