  1. because when you are in/near the notch, the speed of the chaff and your closure is roughly the same, making it the hardest for the radar to distinguish the two. Specifically, this may cause the radar to lock onto chaff and be forced to go back search mode, giving the aircraft time to perhaps maneuver away out of the scan cone at close ranges, or at the very least delay re-acquisition.
  2. #2 could be caused by radar memory mode if the time from turning cold isnt too long
  3. The 120B will occasionally go after chaff, and the 120C almost never, unless you are stall speed at perfect 90° (and even that is not very common). So yes it does "react" to chaff, but not in a significant way, and in no way comparable to the extremely poor CCM of old API missiles (you can clear sky, lookup "notch" and chaff the ER right now.). The increased AMRAAM CCM is fine, and a lot closer to reality than when it was on the old API. What would be appreciated is if we could get other missiles (ER, and particularly R-77 as the R-77 is a 90s ARH missile comparable to the AIM-120B) onto the new API, with significantly increased chaff resistance as to bring all the missiles to a consistent standard.
  4. Sparrow needs PDI illumination, which only works in STT, launching a sparrow in TWS switches to STT on L&S
  5. Its a known bug, they messed with the F-15 FM 2 patches ago and it has no stores drag, including for fuel tanks
  6. The missile does not use the DL if it has a stable track itself, only if it has "difficulty acquiring or maintaining a track", or for a "reference if missile seeker sorting of multiple targets is required" (exact manual wording). In other words, it uses DL if it has trouble in initial acquisition (either from multiple close targets or poor SNR on a single one), and if it looses/has trouble holding a lock and needs to reacquire.
  7. Vs 2m^2, this goes to 32nm vs 5m^2 (this is for the 7F in CW, in PD it will be higher):
  8. Nope, this exact behavior is described specifically in the F-16 weapons employment manual and has been described by at least one IRL pilot.
  9. The thing is, I can hit that "perfect 90° notch" in many situations in the flanker, using a combination of radar, datalink and visual notching. Its not hard to notch in the flanker at all. While blue jets having super precise RWRs is 100% an issue, its nowhere near being the primary cause of the notching meta rn (although it is a factor for sure). I see F-14 pilots (without ECM), notching AMRAAMs all day, and they dont have the ultra accurate RWR
  10. Not absurd actually (and, AFAIK, they already have modeled it ). The notch filter, and how small it is is directly correlated to SNR; radars can track targets even "through" the notch if the SNR remains high enough, and RCS will has a significant effect on SNR.
  11. Boot the game and try it like I have ? I dont have a recording off hand
  12. It was added but not put in the patchnotes. Fairly common occurence in DCS
  13. Lol, it literally just got added this patch, have you like done any testing? (I will grant it was stealth patched, but still)
  14. Previously, unsupported missiles flew straight ahead, not to the last predicted target point. Now they do fly towards last known target point
  15. R-27 uses full PN (no VPN/APN) inside 25km IRL, this is described by relevant MiG-29A manuals. Outside 25km it does use a kind of variable PN constant, but its not for energy retention, its to align the seeker so it can acquire the target; sometimes in this phase the PN is more aggressive than inside 25km. Though overall, id expect the variable PN outside 25km to overall increase energy retention
  16. The breifing starts in 15 minutes in the discord linked in the OP. Make sure to request a side in the discord!
  17. This is a video of a 9L, and its pretty wobbly, and there are other vids out there that show this. From what ive seen they all wobble noticeably
  18. All the sidewinders up to the X do it FWIW, X only doesnt because of its FPA seeker
  19. HISTORIC BATTLES SERIES: F-16 vs MiG-29 22 vs 15 PvP, 1980s Edition OFFICIAL DISCORD: https://discord.gg/wfhqcM9VkN Historic battles is a series that pits aircraft with historic rivalries, either by design or happenstance, against each other in a mass PvP event. This particular event is a 1980s restriction, placing the MiG-29A against the F-16A (represented by a no JHMCS/DL/AMRAAM F-16CM Bk50). DATE AND TIME: Saturday October 9th at 1900z. Run time of 2.5 hrs. OBJECTIVE: The objective is for each team to maintain a high exchange ratio (ratio of kills to losses). If the overall exchange ratio (ratio of F-16 combat losses to MiG-29 combat losses) is over 1.5, the MiG-29s win. If it is under 1.5, the F-16s win. WEAPONS RESTRICTIONS: F-16s are allowed to carry 6*AIM-9L/M and fuel tanks. MiG-29As are allowed 2*R-27Rs, 4*R-73s, any amount of R-60Ms, and fuel tanks. All other external weapons/stores are prohibited. Amendment 1: Use of the NS430 navigation system is not allowed SCENARIO RESTRICTIONS: Neither side has an AWACS. Both sides have EWR sites, which are valid targets. However, they do not count towards win criteria. Both sides additionally will have GCI support, with 3 GCIs per side. Map used will be Caucasus OTHER RULES: A squadron may enter up to 4 pilots per side, allowing up to 8 total (4 on each side) There will be a server ping limit of [TBD] Communications will be on both the discord server, and on SRS To register on the discord, simply ask for F-16A/MiG-29A role in the "historic-battles-role-request" channel GCIs will use Combined Arms STREAMS/PRIZES: As of right now, there is no designated streamer, if anyone is interested just PM me here or on discord. No prizes, this event is just for fun! 20. That is not a structural limit though, that was an operational limit on early F-15As because of the lack of an over G warning system (the beeping the pilot hears at high Gs in the F-15C in DCS). With that its 9G rated, but again this is not a structural/engineering limit, this is purely an operational limit. Same thing with the 6.5 G F-14 limit.
  21. The GIF shows that high Gs break the netcode? Not sure how that is relevant to a FM discussion
  22. Completely false analogy, as we have documentation on how the FCSs work on both jets, and quite simply, the F-15s allows you to hit 12.5 Gs. The Su-27s does not.
