I was running tests on the A-10 and how far out it would attack using a target zone linked to a waypoint. I was a bit surprised by what I found. The convoy was running from east to west and was at a stand still, all T-80's. When the Hog attacked from the south of the convoy (side) it would not attack unless the target zone waypoint was 4500 meters or less from the target. When the hog attacked from the west of the convoy (Behind), it would not attack unless the target zone waypoint was 2500 meters or less from the target. If it attacked from the east (In front) of the convoy, it would not attack unless the target zone waypoint was 3500 meters or less from the target. If it attacked from the north of the convoy (side), it would not attack unless the target zone waypoint was 5500 meters or less from the target. I thought what this could simulate is the difficulty of IDing a target from different angles with the side angle being the easiest way, but those distances, even from the side are way off of what a HOG driver could ID it's target. This pilot was rated as HIGH. I am going to do excellent next to see what the differences are. So my question is the attack logic whacked or is this done on purpose for ID purposes? Again, even if it is done for ID purposes, a good (HIGH) pilot could ID his target way beyond 5500 meters with his sensors and tactical knowledge of where he was on the battlefield. Anyone from ED care to tackle this one? I'll be back after I test this with an EXCELLENT Pilot. Below is the mission I am using. If you see where I have done something wrong, please point it out so I can be really embarassed and shut up :) BETTER DATA WAS OBTAINED THRU FURTHER TESTING. READ THRU THE THREAD TO MY POSTS WITH THE CORRECT DATA AND MAKE OF IT WHAT YOU WILL. Test Mission.miz

Target ID Missions - Damn those Labels!
Dusty Rhodes replied to Dusty Rhodes's topic in User Created Missions General
Hrmmm, that is a good ideer. I wish I had thunk of that before. -
I tried making the GAI mission with a target area, targetting Aircraft and they still did the same thing.
-
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make a GAI mission work. The below mission has 2 SU-27's on the runway and a Russian AWACS airborne. That is all that is in the mission. The mission for the 27's is set to GAI. But after about 40 seconds the SU's take off, fly the landing pattern, land, and park. How do you make GAI work? GAI.miz

I can make units apprear using target zones, but I would like to make things disappear like a pilot you pick up during a CSAR mission.
-
I wish Integrated Air Defense System were introduced like the one in Janes F-18. Give some teeth and coordination to the SAM and AAA units.
-
I wish the marksmanship of all ground units got better as their AI rating increased. Even at EXCELLENT, the marksmanship shown by some tanks and missile shooters is atrocious.
-
I wish the door gunners on the Helo's worked.

Illumination Mission Building
Dusty Rhodes replied to Dusty Rhodes's topic in User Created Missions General
I just looked at it and you have to have the Aircraft loaded with the SAB-100 for it to illuminate. Use the SU-25's for it. -

I'll take a look at it. -
Illumination Mission Building

That did the trick TX. I didn't have it doing a loop and my targetting was wrong. I changed it to POINT and the A-10 was lighting up the sky. Thanks a bazillion TX. -
Illumination Mission Building
Dusty Rhodes replied to Dusty Rhodes's topic in User Created Missions General
BTW, I tried AFAC and also pinpoint attack and it didn't work. I looked up the nigh Illumination mission in the Deployment Campaign but that didn't help as the loadout for teh SU-34 doing the Illum work didn't even have flares loaded. -
I need help on this one. I have an A-10 set to AFAC mission with only Illum flares as loadout. I set a target point and check mark airfield, which is what I want illuminated. I set the attack waypoint as a Fly Over waypoint. The A-10 flys over it, goes to the attack point and then turns and heads for the next waypoint without dropping the Illumination flares. How in the heck do you make this work?

Unfortunately I had to reinstall when this happened to me. I don't know of a fix and hopefully it is something they fix in a patch.

Ranges of Attack for IA Units
Dusty Rhodes replied to Argentinen's topic in User Created Missions General
I did a bunch of ground AI testing last night and those ranges are just about spot on. -
Are you using the targetting zone for the aircraft? There is a mission in the Deployment Campaign where this is done. Find that mission where you are to destroy the house at night and see how they set it up in there.

I think you could bet the farm that there will be a patch. ED is good at product support.

I am not worried about the reload times except that the US MLRS does not reload and the Russian MLRS' do. My points are that MLRS fires at the center point of the target zone no matter how big or small the target zone is set. It should be firing at targets in the target zone. Also the regular Arty fires random all over the place. There should be some logic to what they are firing at. They should be firing at targets in their target zone, not at random points in the target zone. I guess there is no FO in the Arty logic like there was in LOMAC when you put up a AWACS.
-
I just tested the MSTA and the Paladin with a 3000 meter Targetting area. Both Battery's fired random shots all over the 3000 meter circle but paid no attention to the target driving right thru the middle of it. I am going to put up an AFAC and see if that helps with accuracy. Adding an AFAC did nothing to help.
-
Just checked the Grad and it reloaded but just once and it also only fires at the center of the targetting zone you set for it. If there is no targetting zone, US MLRS, Smerch, or Grad will not fire. With the targetting zone they fire at the center X of the zone and pay no attention to any targets in the zone, even if you put up an AFAC or AWACS. US MLRS does NOT reload and the Russian Smerch and Grad will reload once.
-
Just checked out the Smerch and it reloaded after about 20 minutes but only reloaded once. It suffered the same problem. The battery of 4 fired all their rounds at the center of the Targetting circle I set for 15000 meters and paid no attention to the targets that drove right thru the middle of it.
-
Did the ability for the MLRS to reload get taken away? I had a battery fire off their load and an hour later they hadn't reloaded. I even assigned a M818 for each MLRS and parked them side by side and they still didn't reload. The targetting area for US MLRS is a Target point. They attack the center for the targetting area only. I thought a FO was part of artillery calculations. They shouldn't just blindly fire at the center point of the targetting area but at the targets that come into the targetting area. I know the M109 Paladin covers the hole targetting area assigned and doesn't attack targets within the targetting area but blindly shots all over the targetting area. I know previously the artillery only fired out of site when there was an AWACS up. At least then they attacked targets and just didn't blindly fire all over the place. Now given this is a helo sim but the ground war is important. The old way of the AWACS worked better because at least stand off was used and targets were shot at and not the random targetting of the Paladin or the X marks the target spot for the MLRS. Any help on this? Am I doing something wrong to get the Arty to work right? Gonna check the Russian stuff next.

Target ID Missions - Damn those Labels!

I hope that is exactly what it does and thus gets rid of the need for labels and sends the immersion off the scale. -
Target ID Missions - Damn those Labels!
Dusty Rhodes posted a topic in User Created Missions General
I spent the morning making 30 missions with 30 different vehicles in each mission. Your job is to fly to your battle position, ID the target and shoot or don't shoot and fly back home. If you shoot the wrong target (any Eastern Bloc Country Vehicles) then you will get a nasty note that ID's the target for you so you can remember it next time. This will give you some flight time, take off's and landings, occupying a battle position and readjusting for a better looksie, and most of all, the main reason I did this, to Identify friend or foe so you can start weaning yourself off of labels. I made a campaign out of this but if you fail a mission then you have to start all over and such so I just took the missions and zipped them up and here they are. Please leave feedback. I did the 30 most common vehicles you will see but if you see one I should have put in there, then let me know and I can whipe it up in less then 5 minutes and have it posted. Enjoy and lets start turning those labels off. Don't cheat at this or it does you no good. Target ID.zip -
Oh yes I do! Matt, IADS.....JF-18.......Get those radars working. Please?
