Rotor blades hitting each other in flight
fox_111 replied to aledmb's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
So this little buzer that seam to come randomly, is a warning saying my maine rotor is about to crap? (Buzzer that don't light the master warning light) I just screwed a flawles CAS mission today. I was egressing home at max speed and as I trimmed the aircraft in a tight turn, my blades came appart... That's frustrating! -
Tanx a buch mate! That information and link is very eye opening! I'll read up on it. I wonder if Russians contruct heliport bases in country to avoid the long flights to the frontline. When I'm making missions that take place more than 1h away from the Russian border, I make a small helicopter base with supply and protection, so I don't have to fly forever to get to my target.
-
I'm not very knowledgeable of the geo-political state of Russia vs Georgia and it's neigbors. Anyone local of those regions could tell me what kind of conflicts or historical battle could take place in those regions? I did some reserches about the Georgian-russian war that we saw on tv this year, but that region is not detailled in Black Shark. Any other real world conflict going on in the current BS map that I could check out and replicate in the mission editor?
-
I did not try the mission yet. But you can't pursu the run away choppa? The Ka-50 can go up to 250kp/h most of the time it's fast for a chopper!

If an elite DCS:BS player takes the real KA-50...
fox_111 replied to Ferski's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
IMO, if the startup proceidure is identical and you follow the proceidure and timing, I bet you could start the real Ka-50. Flying might be a completely different story. Having flown a real cesna and one in Flight Simulator... there is much more than knowing what to pull and what to press to flying. -
In close formation, my wingmens always fly too close. They even bumped into my rear on many occasions while I was in a hover... I think the AI should be tweeked a bit to improve their performence. They have a hard time keeping their position in formation (as in closing in too close and breaking out of formation). They also bump in each other and superimpose (bug). They should know to keep their distance, even if ordered to be in close formation.

When you are a level6 pilot and up, you need those advanced features. They increase a chance to hit on a D6 roll. Pilot heat for tempetures of bellow 15deg allow a re-roll. Hahaha!
-
My guess is, they are not implemented because they would be no use for them in such a simulator. Like pilot heat or other environemental systeme. Or advance diagnostic backup systeme or whatever.

Does the English version have an English Cockpit?
fox_111 replied to droz's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I don't know about betty, but you can set the cockpit to russian in the options. -
TOW the most feared low altitude air defense?
fox_111 replied to mjolner's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I think tank canister rounds are mainly for helicopters... I saw them devastating a firing range and dropping a wide path of targets, it would be devastating on a chopper. As for the TOWs and other anti-tank or general purpos guided missils, I try to give them an intermitent target at worst, no LOS at best. I generally don't have problem with them unless I screwed something. When there is no blue airforce (ennemy) or SAM threads, I keep my altitude high so tanks and other ground weapons are less of a threat. And flares are only effective when you have some manuvering room to drop them to defeat IR missils. -
I once had rockets on one pilon and a gunpod on the other (both inner station). Only one of the pilon was working... that was strange.

At highspeed, I pitch up a little, bank the chopper and simultaniously give a little rudder to iniciate the turn. Pulling the stick enought to turn but not climbing to much (ajusting collective). After the turn, the rudder pressure must be maintained to keep the nose pointed in the right direction. The aircraft usually aling itself on it's own and rudder pressure can be slowly relased. That's the best way I found for turning at most speeds without ending out of control or ripping those propellers appart. Fluid movements is the key I think.
-
I play with maximum terrain density and I don't have a lot of trouble spotting ennemies. When entering the combat zone, I just slow down a bit to give me time to scan visually in front of me. Having your AI wingmans do recon and report also help.

Auto Hover disengaging other autopilot functions
fox_111 replied to skoiboy's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I also get some weird result with the auto-hover. I found that it's safer to engage it when bellow 5kph and quickly reset the trim as to prevent the aircraft from manuvering wildly to return to the set position. It's also important to turn the auto hover off before manuvering out of the hover and it's a good thing to quickly check if the 3 computer assist lights are on and working. Turning off the hold altitude assist make it easyer to get manuvering at speed too. -
If they could fix the weird russian/anglish voice. They all sound stupid and strugling when speaking english. Sound like they are all heavy on vodka.

Flying the Longbow would kinda make a little more ass kicking. With the fire and forget hellfires missils, the game pace would be turned up a notch. Not to mention the better 30mm chaingun under the nose, that can track target about 180deg in front of you and bellow. It's something I wish the Ka-50 had. Especially when doing a suicide run over a column, blasting rockets and firing 30 mike mike while manuvering.

Is there a way to get close up of abris or shkval tv view?
fox_111 replied to zika1234's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
To look up the Shkall and the Abriss, I use right Ctrl + numpad 0 and then I look down using my HOTAS hat view. The view lock to the zoomed position of the 2 screens and does not move around. Simply pressing numpad 0 bring you back to normal view. -
does dcs black shark have volumetric lighting?
fox_111 replied to hannibal's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
DCS BS does have some volumetric lighting. The rotating beacon under the aircraft is the most ovious. Even during the day, it light stuff around. IMO, it's a little too powerfull. -
I wonder what are the requirements for medals award. I have a couple of medals and some where awarded because I was fired uppon and nailed the bastard, some I just don't know. Most are about bravery. When I found out that AK (7x62) rounds did not really damage the aircraft, I started flying around targets at low speed and low altitude (50m or less) and nail them close with cannon or rockets. It would make a nice movie scene, but not very tactical of me to be so cocky. But I do get medals like that!
-
Not sure if they specify, but I once sent them recon and they uploaded me with armor icons on my ABRISS.
-
I wonder if they have a big enough radar cross section to count as a target. But I take your word on the "landing will get you killed too". haha
-
Most AT weapons can hit slow flying targets. Some are wire guided, like the TOW, and you won't have any warning except maybe a laser range finder hit that will trigger the laser warning device.
-
I wonder, if you land while being targetted, if the radar will still track you and the missil catch you. On radar guided SAM, I guess immobile, ground contacts are filtered out. As for laser guided SAM, as long as the LOS is broken, no hit. But I never tried it in-game yet. (I get killed too soon to think or incase myself into something hard while manuvering to hide) The Ka-50 does not have a RWR, wich is suprising to me.

I'm used to Falcon4 AF tactics, but when it come to chopper tactics, I'm kinda new to this. I searched around for some reading material on the topic and can't really find anything. Anyone got some good source of infos on real world tactics relative to helicopter warfare? I know the ovious "use the terrain". But beyond that. Good evasive manuvers, good ingress and egress paterns, weapon employement... I'm getting better every day at piloting that thing, now I need to put thoses skills at work in an organised manner.
