TouchPal - Touchscreen Cockpit
CyBerkut replied to Gadroc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
OK, so now we have Virtual Instruments (which ggg87 is familiar with) available: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=46579 Has anybody managed to combine that with Touchpal yet? ( I know, it's early, but this is pretty cool stuff! ). A glass cockpit using multiple screens, with other screens handling the view out of the windows, is within reach. Ohhh, the possibilities! Conceivably, with the right sort of setup, head tracking might not be needed anymore... -
I'll second what Feuerfalke said/asked. A touchscreen would be a waste. A regular LCD (or whatever type) display would be good, as you let the button ring take your selection input, and then have the display change appropriately, as needed. You might want to check out http://www.mimomonitors.com/ Flim sells Samsung U70's for that sort of thing as well: http://www.scsimulations.com/store/products/Samsung-U70-USB-LCD.html

A couple of possible reasons come to mind: 1. So that A-10C owners don't have to wade through BlackShark specific postings/material, and vice-versa 2. To minimize confusion amongst new users (presumably some new users will be coming on board with the release of A-10C). [i'm imagining a new DCS-A10C user reading some rant about the 'DCS trim system', and wondering why he should be re-centering his stick and rudder pedals within a second of trimming]. Another potential benefit might be realized in making forum searches somewhat more efficient. Possibly easier on users and /or server(s). It's not an unreasonable concept. However, I would think it would be most appropriate to have a DCS (parent) section, with BlackShark and A-10C (children) subsections. Some things will be applicable series-wide, while other things will be module (airframe) specific.

Bummer. Do you have another computer that you can try it with? Since the OS rollback didn't do the trick, I'm wondering if the X-36's electronics took a dump...
-
It's good to see you back, leafer! Hopefully, your haitus from here was lucrative. :) You're looking at a balancing act there, as your intended uses are a bit at odds. For DCS:BS, clock rate is king, to oversimplify a tad. For home theater, most everyone is seeking to keep it as quiet as possible. Higher clock rates run hotter, requiring more cooling, which generally translates to more fan noise. Fan noise is the bane of home theater PCs, and most HT designs intentionally go to lower power processors because of it. I'm not really up to speed on AMD processors, so I'll leave that to more knowledgable folks. As I understand it, when you are looking at processing power somewhere less than the top end, then AMD is supposed to be a very good 'bang for the buck' proposition. If you're more concerned with DCS:BS performance than low fan noise for a home theater PC, and if you go Intel... then an E8400 / E8500 OC'd as much as it can stand will most likely be your best bet. Having said that, I would also add that it isn't preparing you for the future state of things as well as 'biting the bullet' and getting on to an i7 or i5 processor would. The full capabilities of those processors (and their mobo's / sockets) isn't being utilized *yet* in DCS, but at some point that is bound to change. I understand the 'keep the cost down now' approach, however, and can see some wisdom in that.

You might want to look at your Vista OS updates log. It may be that a recent update hosed you. If so, you could look for different drivers to try, or roll back the OS update to the previous configuration. With a HOTAS that old, you should probably keep in mind that it is living on borrowed time. Even if the stick, etc. holds up, you are in danger of it dropping off of the 'supported devices' list eventually. Good luck!

Executive Decision - 1996 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116253/ It's the only movie I can think of where Steven Seagal's character dies.

Well, if you think it is a driver issue, an OS change might help. If you think it is the hardware (ie. the ministick, or its associated circuits), then it sounds like time for repair or replacement.
-
Well, toward your immediate goal... perhaps just try programming the ministick in SST, and everything else in the BlackShark Options. As for the SST software causing the lag... that is some weird stuff you are experiencing. I have to think there is something else causing that problem. However, some possible suggestions: 1. Try a different version (older or newer) of the SST software. Same thing for the drivers, possibly as well. 2. Perhaps a disk cleanup and defrag is in order. 3. The registry can also be cleaned and defragged. Crudded up registries can cause weird delays in software execution. If you installed and uninstalled a lot of programs, that can really load the registry up with extra crap to wade through that isn't serving any good purpose any more. 4. Maybe go all out... Uninstall the SST and drivers, do a disk cleanup, do a registry cleanup, do a disk defrag, then do a registry defrag. Possibly repeat the defrags several times. Then reinstall SST and driver versions that you have the most confidence in. -------------------------------- If all of the above has already been performed, maybe look for a mouse-to-joystick application?

Ouch! Looks like time for Google. Lots of hits on there, but I also see that there are red/cyan glasses too, so make sure you get the right kind.

A very productive weekend. Very nice!

Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack
CyBerkut replied to Vekkinho's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You are welcome, Vekkinho. If you are into any of the Falcon 4 variants, and can use an MFD graphics export utility, you could put a screen behind the button rings to get a functional MFD. Supposedly, a 7 inch USB display can do the trick for one. For instance, check out http://www.mimomonitors.com/ I think Flim has an offering from a different display maker on his SCSimulations web site. He can probably give you more information on that subject. Hopefully, E.D. will give us a manageable way to get the MFD display graphics to separate monitors so that folks can do this for DCS:A10C. One of the pics in Wags' report on his trip to Moscow was kind of encouraging... :music_whistling: -
Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack
CyBerkut replied to Vekkinho's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The manual can be downloaded from here: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=298&cid=6 The Cougar Control Panel is mentioned / shown in the manual. I didn't notice any reference to Foxy. The Cougar MFDs are shown to have a removable base that you can adjust to several angles of tilt upon your desk. There appear to be screw holes available at the back end of the base so that you could screw them down to a board or desk. The bases can be removed, and the MFD button rings have 4 screw holes if you want to panel mount them. -
Joystick Spring Removal and Modding

It's not the way I would go at it, but I give you props for a simple solution that could make sense for a lot of people! Way to think outside of the box! -
G.A., you are a talented, evil man... ;) I hope you had a great birthday! (Now, get back to work!!!) :smartass: Note: If you manage to safely land an A-10C on a moving train, I will be *very* impressed! :pilotfly:

Nice idea, Migo. When our Norwegian friend wants it, you know it has got to be cool!

Ayup... garbage bag twist ties also work well as a temporary test method. In fact, so far I have just left mine that way. If you haven't tried it yet, try: Just use the twist ties / cable ties / whatever to compress the spring (still on the shaft) so that the compressed spring flops around without exerting any centering force. -
SLI/Crossfire - is it worth it for BlackShark?
CyBerkut replied to Celo63's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Eyefinity holds a lot of promise, depending on how future GPU card offerings are implemented. The subject has been covered pretty well in other threads. One of the interesting things about the Lucid Hydra for the Crossfire / SLI users is that it would make better use of all the available GPUs when multiple monitors are being driven. -
Perfect stick for A-10C from Thrustmaster?

While I don't have any immediate plans to start using IL-2, I do happen to have a MS SW FFB2 on the way. I bought one via eBay, and it is in transit. -
SLI/Crossfire - is it worth it for BlackShark?
CyBerkut replied to Celo63's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Congo Toey, it sounds like you might be a prime candidate for a Lucid Hydra, if it works as claimed. Unfortunately the first one coming out is socket 1156 based. MSI is about to come out with a MoBo that has it: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1093/1/ http://www.slashgear.com/lucid-hydra-200-powers-msi-big-bang-mainboard-2357770/ http://www.dvhardware.net/article38046.html Hopefully, if Hydra works, we'll see socket 1366 based MoBos before too long.
