Thanks for posting the video! It's too bad the instructor couldn't unclench for a few minutes so that you guys could have enjoyed it more.

That was funny stuff. Good find!

Along with checking the SST software version, also make sure you have the latest drivers (appropriate to your operating system).

Oooohhhh... details! Details man! You can't just tease us like that. ;)

I hope it works, since the current administration is axing the Orion program, and the replacements could be really useful.

Oh, now you've done it!... 1st, folks will try to do it, beating their heads against their keyboards in frustation over their repeated failures to get the results they want. 2nd, the hue and cry will get louder for E.D. to put something into the sim to make it easier. 3rd, Yoda will take a look at it, and will figure out how to get the desired effects using Java, or some obscure language. 4th, rejoicing will occur, but the sky will suddenly darken when: 5th, someone concludes (rightly or wrongly) that "Hey, that program can also give you an X-Ray view, and someone could look through mountains..." And here you were, just trying to be helpful! ;) OK now, back to my coffee...

Will the DCS A-10C support multi cores?
CyBerkut replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Perhaps if you were better at it, it wouldn't demand so much of your attention! ;) -
I don't know sobek. I'm not an audio engineer. Perhaps they are doing some wizardry in them similar to the 2 speaker headphone systems. What I do know, is that they work for me, and I didn't exerience any need to get used to them... It just worked immediately. (At least, that is how it seemed to me.) And yes, I would say the bass on these is *very* good.

Yes, they have been on nVidia's case for some time now. Reading their articles is a bit of an eye opener. I used to be nVidia oriented while contemplating what my next desktop would be. Between seeing what ATI has come up with in their 58xx series, and seeing nVidia come up (considerably) short on what they themselves had projected, I had to re-evaluate that thought process. The folks at semiaccurate clearly aren't nVidia fans these days. If only a third of what they are saying about nVidia's current situation is true, then nVidia has serious problems (at least with their consumer/enthusiast grade graphics card line). nVidia is indeed well situated to make 3D graphics products. They have (understandably) gone with a licensing approach. I don't begrudge them that, but also understand that it probably isn't helping to make 3D graphics more popular. Now it appears that other players are jumping into the 3D graphics market segment, and are going with a more open / interoperable approach. If they have the wherewithal to get their foot in the door, nVidia may need to adjust their approach. I'm glad to see Ryleh is having spectacular results with his gear! I haven't completely ruled out nVidia from my next machine. I had thought about using an nVidia 295 card with the shutter glasses and a 120 Hz LCD TV as my main display. It still could happen, so Ryleh's experience is good to see. At the moment, I'm leaning in a different direction, but it will still be awhile before I pull the trigger, so things could look different by then.

Before anyone (else) jumps on the nVidia 3D bandwagon, they might want to check out: http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/01/05/bit-cauldron-has-standard-3d-glasses/ Take it for what it is worth. The folks at semiaccurate have been ripping nVidia up one side and down the other for some time now. They do seem to make a pretty good case for their complaints though...

Groove, I use a Turtle Beach AKR8, with has an external USB card. http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/akr8/home.aspx Since you want to use your X-Fi sound card, the equivalent would be their HPA2: http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efhpa2/home.aspx These have 4 speakers per ear rather than doing the electronic wizardry of simulating surround sound with fewer speakers. If you use a TrackClip Pro with your TrackIR, these headsets make a very good mounting platform for that. I wrote about my AKR8 headset thoughts over here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2871924/Re_Headset_advice.html#Post2871924 Someone else wrote about the HPA2's there as well: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2933880/Re_Do_you_game_via_speakers_or.html#Post2933880 Happy headset hunting!

There are nice TouchBuddy profiles over in the TB forums for both 2 monitor and 3 monitor setups. I think there are links in another thread in these forums, too. The one downside, currently, with TB for DCS:BS is that the profiles are not synchronized with the status of switches, etc. in the sim. For instance, if you flip a switch in the clickable cockpit with your mouse (or use a keyboard command, etc.), the TB display will not reflect the change. Due to this, TouchPal was developed (by Gadroc, IIRC) with synchronization built in, for use initially with DCS:BS. Keep in mind that it doesn't have a slick editing tool similar to what Snacko did for TB. If you do some searching in these forums on TouchPal, and also on BSVP, you should see that some amazing things have been done by some talented people in the community. Gadroc has indicated that he has more in the works, so that would probably be worth keeping an eye open for. :)

Nice find! I see he solved it another way, but that could help some folks.

What's the Point of Moving Threads?
CyBerkut replied to ericinexile's topic in Forum and Site Issues
If people want to see the new posts on various subjects, they should be taking on the responsibility to go look in the appropriate areas, rather than expecting the posts to appear where they prefer to look. The forum organization is well laid out, and that system is reasonable and useful. I think from a human factors aspect, the biggest obstacle to people using the intended tool for checking new posts (ie. the "New Posts" button at the top of the page), is that it results in getting all of the new messages in all of the languages. That is fine for the multi-lingual folks who want to read all of the postings. However a lot of folks are fluent/functional in only a single language, and the new posts button is giving them a lot of postings to wade through that they don't want. I suspect that is leading to some people not using it, which would lead to them possibly missing new postings in the low traffic areas. It would be nice if the forum code for th new posts button could accomodate filtering the forums by language(s)... but that is not the case. Fortunately, there is a work around of sorts, which Alpha One Six was nice enough to posts some time ago: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=647780&postcount=8 Making a shortcut icon for one's desktop, as described, makes it easier to avoid missing out on new postings in all of the desired areas. -

Perfect stick for A-10C from Thrustmaster?
CyBerkut replied to some1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You may very well be right... but I hope not !! :( I don't know though... with the controller companies coming out with some serious products, one has to wonder if they have a little more to go on in *their* crystal balls. We had a long drought in the combat flight sim genre, but there appears to be a confluence of several factors that may keep things looking better for some time to come. - smarter companies that have the benefit of learning from other's mistakes in the past. - at least one company that has configured itself to leverage military/government contract work. - hardware that has outstripped the current programming utilization by a significant margin. (When the programmers start making fuller utilization of the multiple cores and GPU computing power, it's going to be a beautiful thing!) - an environment (the internet) and software tools that enable cooperative programming from disparate locations. You don't necessarily *have* to put all your programming aces in one office building anymore. Time will tell. Many things in business are cyclic, so that is to be expected. The overall trend remains to be seen. -

Please Help - Finding X52 Controller Software
CyBerkut replied to SlyBelle's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Along with firewalls, another thing that can bite you on accessing some URLs is your hosts file. On both my Win XP 32 bit and my Vista 64 bit machines, the hosts file is in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder It can be edited in notepad. Just remember to save the file as "hosts" (no quotes), not hosts.txt If you find an entry that looks like 127.0.0.1 ftp.saitek.com or 127.0.0.1 saitek.com Then I would suggest commenting that line out with the # sign # 127.0.0.1 ftp.saitek.com 127.0.0.1 is the universal address for your own machine, aka "home". When a URL in the hosts file is set to 127.0.0.1, it is effectively black holed. -

Either that, or if someone can make a set for the LEAVU 2 project (since it will have the MFDs, and can do gauges according to Yoda). -
Are you certain? :D
