  1. IIRC, TriggerHappy experimented with having both a FFB Cyclic and FFB rudder pedals connected simultaneously for DCS: BS (version 1) and it did not work properly for trim (ie. holding both the stick and pedals in the trimmed position). He eventually went to a solenoid-based position locking solution, which really would be the way to go. I had started moving toward making some FFB pedals (was going to cable link a Saitek FFB sterring wheel to my old TM RCS pedal mechanism), but abandoned the project once I saw what Triggerhappy had run into. Anyways, the take-away from that is multiple FFB controllers (for different axis control) is not really feasible. Further support for that can be found in PeterP's observations during his dual Sidewinder FFB cyclic project. He found that with two Sidewinder FFB sticks connected, one tracked the other. He was able to capitalize upon that for his specific project, but it is unlikely that one could exploit that for separate axis (ie Cyclic - Rudder - Collective) controls. While FFB controls would make these projects more accessible to us if they could work,... technically speaking the use of FFB for the purpose is not really efficient. Having constantly energized motors for the purpose of holding a control in a new "centered" position is not as efficient as having a solenoid system (which could be normally off to clamp the control, and energized to allow the control to move) for the Cyclic and Rudder pedals, and a mechanical system for the Collective brake.
  2. The other possibility on increasing monitor count with DisplayPort 1.2 is if you have DisplayPort 1.2 monitors that accomodate daisy chaining. A single DisplayPort 1.2 connection from the card can feed up to three DisplayPort 1.2 monitors daisy chained off of it. But yes, we really need to see some MST DisplayPort 1.2 hubs get on to the market, as it has been quite awhile now since the standard emerged.
  3. A man of many talents. :) Well done!
  4. Well, for anyone interested in getting "wireless" with their Track Clip Pro... Here's a thread on how somebody made the clip wireless on their Logitech G930 (wireless) headset. http://www.sdsquad.com/index.php?topic=2403.0 That appears to have been inspired by what Teej had posted in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=67081&page=6 This post over on SimHQ also has a modified Track Clip Pro / G930 combo: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3389109/Update_on_Obutto_Pit.html
  5. Army rolls out new Apache Block III aircraft http://www.army.mil/article/69144/
  6. I'm not a midi kinda guy, but you made me curious enough to do a little googling. Check out this discussion thread: http://216.157.25.179/forum/showthread.php?t=14620 A number of possible approaches in there, it appears.
  7. Consider buying two of the ThrustMaster T.6000M... set one up for your left hand to be the throttle. Cobble up some sticks or plates to limit the left hand stick to just moving on the Y Axis (for throttle control), with some friction. [Might want to remove the centering spring(s).] That would get you a hall effect throttle, plus some extra buttons, etc. too. A "poor man's HOTAS".

  9. -Ice, if you are not commited to using Bodnar boards, you might want to look at Byrdling's project: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1304711&postcount=1
  10. Old electric drum kit... Hmmm... That's a pretty good idea!
  11. That is one of the best candidates that I've seen for being likely to pass the spouse acceptance test. Nicely done!
  12. Perhaps GG made an honest error / misremembered? It does indeed appear to be an HF/DF. http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/systems/classic_bullseye.htm
  13. I don't know, without re-reading his thread. Would that conversion preclude use of analog (ie. joystick axis) inputs? As I recall, his project still has joystick axis inputs, etc.
  14. Pitbull, it appears you would rather avoid extra complication (can't blame you there!), but just in case this is enough to overcome that for you, or anyone else here... you might want to check out jimbop's matrixing of a BU0836X card. End result: A boatload of inputs from a single card that is seen as a controller. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3343731/More_inputs_by_matrixing_BU038.html
  15. Tulsa, it sounds like you did your part. Once you've bent to a certain point, you have to draw the line and say, "No further". I dunno. Maybe you need to push back a bit more to get her to realize how good she has/had it. Perhaps fly 2 nights a week again for awhile, until she figures out she should put a sock in it. I guess I got lucky, and did a few things right back at the beginning with my wife. It sounds like your 'untrainability' is very similar to how I dealt with certain things she tried. Once she discovered that crap wasn't going to work, we settled into a pretty good relationship. I feel for ya'. Good luck with it...
  16. Well, you see now she's working after all... she's just not doing it off premises and bringing home a check. If you are not already regularly portraying an understanding and appreciation of that, I'd suggest you start ASAP. Keep in mind, that while you deal with numerous people at work during your day, she may be dealing mostly with one immature person at her 'work'. Both of those situations can take a toll on a person... just in different ways. She may be unwittingly seeking to get you to fill the gap (of adult conversation, etc.) that was created by her switching to staying home. If you think that may be the case, you may find it beneficial to help her see it. By the way, the better way to get there is by asking thoughtful questions, listening carefully to the answers, and working through it with kindness. If you just jump to a conclusion and then proceed to tell her what you think her problem is, it probably will not be well received, (and you might even be wrong). It does sound like she is being too demanding in regards to your day off, but it also sounds like you may be pushing back too hard (which is a pretty normal reaction). Perhaps you can find a way to negotiate some middle ground where you offer to go do something for part of the day, but that the other part of the day is your time to retire to your man-cave. [seek to have that conversation at a time when neither one of you is aggravated with the other one]. Regarding somebody's earlier idea of suggesting that she go to the gymnasium... That could be a landmine that you don't want to step on! :music_whistling: And if you do manage to do the washing machine ride... DO NOT under any circumstances hold your arms out and make airplane noises :pilotfly: [At least not until the end, any ways...] Lastly, you are entitled to have some time to yourself if that is what you need. Conversely, it behooves you to figure out what she needs (which is not necessarily what she says that she wants) and help ensure that she gets it. Look for the win-win.
  17. Well, couches make lousy sim seats, so you shouldn't need to be using the couch at that time... So where's the problem, exactly? :D
  18. Congo, I don't really know what to tell you, on that. I don't have DCS: BS installed on my desktop machine (and don't have DCS: A10C), so I'm not in a position to test it out at this time. My *suspicion* (having seen the eyefinity issue with being stretched across multiple Acer Touchscreens) is that the separate viewports approach that Shu77 mentions is probably your best bet. However, you should probably give SoftTH a shot, as it may be a sufficiently different approach that it works. At the moment, I have no immediate plans to get into flight simm'ing on the desktop. I have a "Maybe some day I will..." plan in the back of my mind that I have been working towards (Partially what led to the purchase of the three Acer T230H touchscreens), where I would use Helios (or something like it) on the touchscreens and use a TV for the outside view. I'll be interested to see what you find works best for you!
  19. I can't say it with absolute certainty, but I do not think you will get the desired results for the center screen of your eyefinity group. Until such time as Acer comes out with Eyefinity-aware drivers for the T230H's, I think we are out of luck.
  20. A potential issue to be aware of with using multiple Acer 23" touchscreens... The last time I checked, you still couldn't really do an Eyefinity multi-monitor setup with them and have the touchscreen functions work properly. I have three of the Acer 23" touchscreens (using Win 7). The touchscreen calibrations are fine when setup as an extended desktop. [i play three simultaneous instances of Eve Online, one per screen]. Putting the screens into an Eyefinity group doesn't allow for proper touchscreen alignment. I have not seen a fix/work-around for this. Of course, if you're doing Helios instead of relying upon the built-in clickable cockpit, then an Eyefinity group wouldn't be used for the touchscreens, which would avoid the problem.
  21. Foxnews.com has a nice slideshow of 54 military pics up today: http://www.foxnews.com/slideshow/scitech/2011/07/26/military-tech-in-action#slide=1
  22. Actually, Masterpilot Programmer is the name of the hardware for programming the cartridge. Dr. Hallows program is called Fox Three. You can read about it and obtain it at: http://www.flyfoxy.com/fox3.html Note that the page was last updated in 2002.
  23. You can find plenty of discussion on this in other threads, but I would say the salient points are... Export deals with more than just the switches and lights in your cockpit. For instance, export deals with: - status of switches, lights, etc. - user's position data - detected target position data It is the last two items that step into the controversial realm... in that in the minds of many, that information being available in a data link (when it isn't handled that way in the modeled aircraft) constitutes an unfair advantage. Since the export file has that data available, it can be transferred by external means (i.e LEAVU) and/or displayed in manner that is not available in the modeled aircraft.
  24. Ayup. That's like the idiots that hand a loaded shotgun, or other high-powered firearm to somebody without proper instruction on how to shoot... just so they can watch somebody fall on their a$$ while laughing at them. Nothing quite like alienating people to our activities...
  25. Hi GG, I don't know if they are working on getting a dynamic element into the campaign system, or not. I am admittedly not up to date on the latest ME developments. In truth, a dynamic campaign isn't a really big deal to *me*, but I have seen where a segment of the community has hammered E.D. over it repeatedly. I don't presume to know what is best for E.D., but I do want to see them continue to prosper. Kicking ideas / concepts around is a "good thing". I agree Falcon's DC isn't realistic. But then, I wasn't talking about adding Falcon's DC, but rather it's programmer... and imagining what could be done with the much better processing power that is available now. And yes, I understand that the military likes to setup their own war games. However, financially, times are getting tough all over, even where the big eagle writes the checks... so even the military looks for ways to save money. My reference to "an economical war gaming option built into TBS" wasn't so much aimed at entirely replacing the big production war games so much as it was aimed at giving the military a lower cost means (ie. fewer people needed) to have supplementary sessions. They may be sessions that are more limited in scope (almost certainly so), but that can still have value. If that can help them somehow, and E.D. can sell them the means, so much the better. :) E.D. will do whatever is best. I don't second guess them.
