Uuuuaaaah..! I have started building now..!
CyBerkut replied to Triggerhappy69's topic in Home Cockpits
100 Amps? Yowza! (that's 1.2 KW of power, by my calculation) Trigger, I think you can move up from hamsters to elephants (maybe even angry elephants) with that solenoid... :music_whistling: -
Ah, I see. Thanks for sharing the info. My new desktop has an 5870 Eyefinity 6 card, so I'm considering my options beyond the single touchscreen that I have now. Knowing about what you are running into is helpful.
-
It's just a long shot, but have you tried the eyefinity 3 screen display combined with the USB displays while plugging both of the twin USB leads in for each of them? Also, have you tried the eyefinity 3 screen with a single USB (using both of its USB leads)? If that still won't work for you, do you have a second PC (old laptop, or whaever) that you can hang the USB screens on? LEAVU works over a LAN, after all.

Well, considering that the Ka-50 is a single seater, easily supervised simulator training becomes a bit more valuable. When you only have a few of those airframes, and they are not easily replaced, the training value increases even more.

Very nice, Funkster! But we've got to get you some treatment... :music_whistling:

Hmmm... I think the racing wheels are FFB, but not their pedals. I haven't heard of any pedals on consumer grade FFB steering wheel controllers being FFB. As for getting FFB on rudder pedals... I was going to tie an old set of TM RCS pedals to a Saitek R660 FFB wheel to make FFB rudder pedals for trim on DCS:BS. I never got around to finishing it, after reading Triggerhappy's report on how DCS:BS would do either FFB based trim on the cyclic, or the rudder pedals, but not both simultaneously. TriggerHappy has switched to working on an electro-mechanical braking system to handle the force trim simulation, and I think he is on to a better approach with that. See also Loubial's thread on what he is doing. If you are seeking FFB for some other purpose in DCS, I don't know what it would do for you. DCS:BS doesn't give you special effects through FFB. It remains to be seen what DCS:A10C will or won't use FFB for.

Corrections to my post in #63. The gentleman's name is Waxer, and his threads on his 8 touchscreen cockpit are over on the TouchBuddy forum and on his squadron's forum: http://www.touch-buddy.com/forums/public-chat/1159-over-ambitious-8-screen-tb-project-underway.html http://www.72ndvfw.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5180 Definitely worth a look.

It looks like you are off to a good start! I like the paper tube prototyping.

Well Trigger, to start with, let's separate the concepts of solenoids and foreskin manipulation, in the interests of safety! ;) What you may wish to examine doing, is using 120 Volt solenoids, and using relays (triggered by your lower voltage) to operate them. Good luck, and be careful! -
I strongly suspect that such an arrangement, without an accompanying visual depiction of where your hand is in relation to the virtual panels, would not be truly practical for a flight sim such as DCS:Black Shark. Without the visual indexing, the reliance upon the haptics (glove palm bumping your palm, or whatever) would get wearisome, and probably would not be very efficient when you are trying to make things happen in a hurry under stress. As for flexible multiple use pits, I think the multiple touch screens using TouchBuddy / TouchPal type programs hold the most promise. Somebody made such an arrangement for one of the Falcon variants, and it is quite impressive. He had something like 6 or so of the small 7 inch USB touchscreen displays, an 18.x inch all-in-one touchscreen computer, and I think the main display was around a 22 inch touchscreen, IIRC. He has a thread on these forums that links to more info on it.

"Need" as in *required*? You don't. However, I'm sure the CH manager software will provide access to advanced programming functions that are not available within BlackShark's built-in controls menus. At some point, you may wish to avail yourself of those added capabilities.

making a server for yourself and a friend?
CyBerkut replied to kingneptune117's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Probably not. The full IP address (including those last three digits) should be the full IP address of the machine that is hosting the server. If you don't know what that machine's IP address is, get it to a command prompt (DOS window) and type IPCONFIG and then press enter. Use that IP address. -
The .pro extension is just the newer SST profile file naming convention. The older SST profiles ended in .dat, which has been obsolete for some time now. The .pro applies across the Saitek product line that utilizes SST software (Even the Cyborg Command Unit).

Hopefully that will work out for you. -

Jocman, which specific version of Win 7 64 bit do you have? I'm guessing it was Win 7 Home Premium that came installed on your laptop. If you were lucky, you'd have Win 7 Professional or higher. (Or you could consider doing the upgrade). The reason I mention it is that with Win 7 Professional, or higher, there is a "Windows XP Mode" available (It requires a download that Win 7 Professional and higher users are entitled to). I don't know if that is a good solution for you, but you might want to look at it. I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know all the details on it. Good luck! -
Amen! :smilewink:

Dual Graphics Card Performance
CyBerkut replied to TAIPAN_'s topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My understanding is that the above is the approach recommended over on the SoftTH forums for the *third* monitor (in the days before cards that had 3 or more outputs). I'd say, that if you are only trying to drive 2 monitors, and have 2 appropriate outputs on your card, just hang both monitors on that card. If you need to boost graphics performance, then look at getting an identical card and running SLI / Crossfire, with both monitors connected to the primary card. -
I don't get it. Where are the sandwiches? I want my $5 Footlong! :D

Well... let's back up a bit. What functions are you controlling with those button rings (The TM Cougar MFDs)? The TouchPal route could work nicely for you. Check this out for a design tool: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=866702&postcount=212 Even though TouchPal is primarily aimed at folks using a Touch Screen, you could use it since it keeps the button display/status updated with what is in the sim's display. You could use your button ring buttons as inputs, and the TouchPal displayed items would stay synchronized.

Just got an e-mail announcing a new add-on for X-Plane: http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/x-planestore/Detail?no=222 REX - Real Environment Xtreme. I just looked at it briefly. I didn't notice any indication about how it looks when you get up close, or into, the clouds.

No such animal for consumers this year. http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/showthread.php?7204-CH-products-2010 CH has a A-10C replica HOTAS for the military market... perhaps you saw or heard a reference to that.

They look spiffy! For myself, I would want to display other things inside of those button rings... But pay that no mind. You've done amazing stuff, and you should go as you see fit! *Very* cool!

I can't speak for the others, but for the last 11 months, I've been averaging 53. ;)
