  1. It's also the best NVG representation I've ever seen in a game, period. I always get really annoyed by game developers throwing in a green tint, upping the gamma and adding noise and calling it nightvision. I was really impressed by the Shark's NVG's; very immersive.
  2. That's not true, actually. Look at the Campaign Status before you start it next time. It shows your mission success rate, kills, etc for every mission you've ever played and replayed, not just the ones you move on from. If you look in players.lua, every mission attempt is catalogued. So, rank is based upon flight hours/kills and you climb the ladder by how much youre playing the game, not how far you've progressed in the campaign.
  3. I'm sure it's possible, and probably quite easy to do. However I have no idea how it should be done and I'm not willing to try it either. :) And for christs sake man, don't write topic titles in caps. That's a big forum-don't.
  4. Well said, sobek.
  5. Is it possible to choose your skin within the campaign, without editing loadout in the mission editor? And if not, does the campaign ever assign a paint job other than the default camo?
  6. Really? Error accumulation isn't modelled whatsoever? Seems odd they would cover it in such detail in the producer's notes without mentioning that...
  7. I'm interested in remodelling some of the civ traffic and buildings, but I have no idea how this game works in the modelling department. There's alot of information on skinning available, but modelling tutorials are hard to come by. Does anyone know of any information on what needs to be done or necessary tools/plugins to get a model into BS? Basically what I need is a viewer and exporter, preferrably for 3d studio max, but I can use Maya as well. Thanks in advance.
  8. Absolutely gorgeous. Rep incoming. I need this on my hard drive asap. You can't have your pudding until you finish the airbase! *cracks whip*
  9. Yeah, I figured rate of fire had something to do with it but that didn't seem like an end all answer. So lack of armor modelling makes alot more sense.
  10. Just wondering if this new toy of the Hog's will make it into the sim, as I'd love to try it out. Also, on a slightly unrelated note... The Ka-50's 30mm cannon seems relatively ineffective at neutralizing armored targets. However, the A-10's 30mm cannon is clearly quite capable of giving any tank commander a very bad day. Exhibit A: So what's the difference here?
  11. Yes, that's what I thought.
  12. Oh, those are very nice DragonRR... Can you offer any explanation of how you're supposed to taxi in to the parking area?
  13. Maybe it's the camera angle, but the leftmost monitor looks grossly misaligned. Am I the only one bothered by that?
  14. Flight Sim Specific: http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/forum33-tutorials/ - Includes skinning tutorials for LOMAC, which I'm almost certain is the same process as skinning for Black Shark. http://www.calclassic.com/repaint.htm General/Essentials: http://www.fpsbanana.com/tutcats/109 http://www.fpsbanana.com/tutcats/5 http://hosted.planetquake.gamespy.com/polycount/ There, that should keep you guys busy for awhile! Still, the internet is chock full of invaluable yet free information, so dig in! ;)
  15. Thank you for confirming that special effects were added. The AI was a bit of a stretch I suppose, especially since it was only a few seconds of video. The movement just seemed less automated and mechanical, or as I said, more "lively." But that could also be because I never look at tanks that close up when I'm firing upon them.
  16. Actually, I disagree. That kind of attitude has contributed more than anything else to the near death collapse of simulations. A statement like that reads to the casual gamer as "dorks and geeks only, stay out!" I'm a lover of the massively in depth mechanics as anyone else, but arcade mode is there for a reason, and it's not to turn our sim into the likes of Ace Combat or HAWX. It's there to draw in people who would otherwise be flat out overwhelmed and turned off by trying to pour into a 380 page manual to play a "game." But, nine times out of ten as they play on the lite version, they start to appreciate the level of detail they're missing out on and a desire develops to learn the nooks and crannys of the simulation. It's a way of reaching out and enlightening the masses, and I applaud ED for trying to do this.
  17. There's a view option called "Weapon to Target." I'm not sure what the keys are, but it's in there.
  18. I was referring to the vehicles taking evasive action when fired upon, instead of sitting like fish in a barrel... I'm getting the sense that people are going on the defensive about my comment. There's no reason for that, I'm not complaining about the game. Like I said, it's not a black and white difference, and I could be completely mistaken, I don't know.
  19. Here's mine: X52Pro_DCS_KA50.zip Everybody has their own preference though, so you might be better off making your own. Although, I suppose it's a good base to start with. Anyway, send me a rep if you like it. :)
  20. LOL, quit pouting dude. It's no "small favor" to completely reskin the shark, especially with the level of detail you're wanting. No one is born a texture artist, they get there from a desire to see something they like in a game, and they go out and make it happen. Just try it out, I can link you to some tutorials if youre interested. It's really not that difficult, all it takes is three things: 1: practice, 2: not being lazy and 3: practice.
  21. All you'd really have to do is remove the shark face from the Black Shark skin, but who would want to do that?
  22. That's hard for me to believe, seeing as how I have graphics maxed out and more than competent hardware. Maybe you're just not seeing the difference. It's not dramatically different in the video, but the effects are definately more lively and varied. Also, the AI seems to be alot more active than what I've seen and heard others comment on.
  23. Rep sent. :D
  24. Excellent, I'll read it right away. Glad to hear there's atleast one of our kind among your ranks! :) Review of the review: Overall it was a very fair review with good press for the flight sim genre, and you know as well as I that it needs all of that it can get! My only complaint was that you didn't mention the upcoming DCS modules! I think it would have drawn much more interest if the readers knew the much broader and brighter future of DCS. Oh, two complaints: it's only an AU review?! In any case, good work and thanks for getting the word out.
