  1. Big update. Once that's done you can download modules. I'm ticking along at 5.1Mb/sec here, which is respectable. I suspect the P47 and Channel will take some time once this is done, but I might get to wreck a brand new aircraft on virgin territory tonight. Then I can try landing my F-18 on grass. So far FOD isn't modeled, so I have high hopes.
  2. And once again BN spoils our senseless conjecture with actual data. :pilotfly::joystick:
  3. This is, after all, such a welcome and friendly place. Passionate. That's the marketing term they use to describe the environment.
  4. From what I've read it's not the harpoon, it's the ships. Maybe both. Then again, maybe we shouldn't have been so concerned when the Iranians fired those harpoons at us (they didn't, but we were blissfully unaware it was a drill, hence red and free with white birds on the rails).
  5. I use miter glue if that's at all helpful. Put layers of painter's tape on your base, lay the work piece upside down over that and put painter's tape on it so they line up. Put a line of the CYA part of the miter glue on the base layer, spray the activator on the work piece, then carefully lay the work piece in place. Won't move until you wedge it up.
  6. I used to think this was a good idea until the second or third time I landed in the hanger bay. What's the point of land practice when there's no penalty for failing ship practice? They use FCLP to make sure students are ready for the real thing without killing themselves or pranging an expensive aircraft or more expensive boat. They use small, light, cheap trainer aircraft to do it. We can practice until the end of time with the 'real' aircraft on the boat. If FCLP was available I'd just run missions on the boat anyway, because there's no reason to simulate the simulation.
  7. Watched the track. Seem to spend a long time upside down in the dirt. If I wait long enough is there a tower somewhere in my future?
  8. MDFs can be exported. If you want radar exported (when it's not on the MFD) that's a different problem. I'm going to use Ikarus to mirror EW and save the three MDFs (which are exported) for things like SA, weapons, and radar.
  9. Touch screens would probably be the hardest. You can use USB->video boxen (about $50 each) if you're out of hard monitor ports, but they get a little wonky on restarts and might require reconfiguration. Dedicated ports are always best. Easiest answer is small LCDs behind Cougar MFDs. Bad news, no matter what anyone hands to you, it has to be tweaked for your exact setup. No getting around it, because you're going to have to shift things around by pixels or ten at a time. We can get you started and tell you where to make the changes, but you're about to become an old guy who writes code. Sort of.
  10. Seriously! In a perfect world I got back from Portugal on Sunday, back to work today. The world isn't perfect, and I have to wait until next year to get back from Portugal. Still working. That's a plus. Now all we need is the U.S. Navy. I can't see why they would add that, though. It's only the third largest air force in the world.
  11. The Mk 2 SimPit. Working on Mk 3 (at least in the design stage) now.
  12. You can do the inbound calls if the aircraft is 12 or so NM out, then map something for ball call. [bC] is my second favorite (apparently) SC grade result, after EGIW. I keep forgetting to tell them I'm landing. I can smoke this mission right up to the grove, then the wings, so to speak, fall off. I hesitate to upload my version of Bankler's mission because...well...it's Bankler's, not mine. I'd hate for someone to blame him for mistakes I may have made editing it, or give me credit for work he did. It's a brilliant mission, and he gets all the kudos!
  13. Open mission editor - open mission - select carrier - change to one of the SCs, save - close - carry on. I got rid of most of the flights (and all the static aircraft), then moved my jet to 12 miles away, which gives me time to initiate the calls. Changed the script to set 2, 3, and 4 to five points, 1 wire is 0 points, changed the carrier to the Big Stick and altered the TCN freq. Never got around to changing the bit that auto-sets TCN for you, so when I start I check in with the SC, change the TCN to 71, turn on ICLS, do the see you at 10 thing, then run the mission normally. Mapped the ball-call to a controller. I get an SC score at the end followed by Bankler's. The SC is much harsher. Really looking forward to the SC version of the script, though. Great stuff here.
  14. I get EGIW pretty much every time I catch a wire (the alternative is a bolter) and most of my passes are *cough* average © or no-score. If anything the SC seems easier than the Stennis, just need to get the hang of it. I'm using Bankler's mission; I generally smoke it until the groove, then the wheels fall off.
  15. Or a track file would be even better. Trust me, you're not the worst at this, and I still have my .trk files from my first attempts (I keep most of them, but not all). Even today I the LSO just threw up the phone and quit because kones like me were allowed into his pattern.
  16. Nah. It won't take that long. It will be released while you're in the shop, moments after you make that one irreversible modification that eliminates the option to change it back. You'll finish for the day, proud of how well it turned out, and there will be a DCS update and an endless supply of adult beverages from a grateful community waiting...
  17. +1; the AI is a particular nuance. At least on MP you can (hopefully) coordinate on SRS. I suspect it has to be there if we're going to have directors send us to cats some day.
  18. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure I've seen every salute I've rendered. You can't miss your hand coming up, and depending on who's in front of you keeping the other three fingers out was excruciatingly difficult. ...and you can watch the track file.
  19. Took a few tries to figure out the secret of editing .lua files in missions, but I finally got it worked out. 2, 3, and 4 are worth 5 points, 1 is zero. That should fit with GB's comment that he's seen lots of OK 2 and 4 wires. Unfortunately that means I have to end my long, sordid relationship with the 1 wire. There are other things in this I want to clean up (as in clean up for my specific application, not that anything is broken) but this is awesome work. If you remember to contact the SC on the way in you get the SC score and Bankler's score at the same time. A quick pause and you can actually read them. Sooner or later (probably sooner) I'll set it up to work with the Big Stick. I had an opportunity to be a plank owner on that one.
  20. I think Calvin was my wingman. I shot him down and have had much better luck landing... 2020.05.20 Dangerous Wingman.trk
  21. I put one of these in a different thread. Might need a different track there... 2020.05.20 Check out CAT 1.trk 2020.05.20 CrashOnDeck!.trk
  22. I did discover you can update it for SC if you edit the mission and ONLY change the carrier type. Don't change the names of the units or get too squirrly. Then save it as Bankler's (it's his, after all) and note that you modified it somehow. I'll worry about the wires later. Right now the LSOs must all think I'm amazing because they keep telling me how powerful I am. Power. POWER. POWER, you farging moron! What part of POWER confuses you!? Did your mother have any children that lived?
  23. Yes indeed! This is a work of art. Kudos to everyone involved for a job magnificently done!
  24. Ran into this quite a few times where an E3 and an F-18 would conflict on start up. They'd park themselves almost touching, then eventually one would move for the loss of both most of the time. I set the aircraft to runway start and the second F-18 started on Cat 1 at the same time as the E3, resulting in the strangest looking biplane you've ever seen, but it has great radar and very dangerous missiles.
  25. I ran the built-in mission and my wingman cut me off in the groove. That was exciting! Got a WO on my first landing attempt... <edit> I should add I ran the downwind long and the wingman did not; he turned in and missed me by a few meters. Only then did the AI evade. </edit>
