Yes, found it - funnily I had already mapped the slave Magic button, but I had somehow in my head that it is the button that releases the heat seeker to do its own searching, like in AV8B. Unlock was a bit hidden under the HOTAS controls, now I got it thank, chained it together with radar unlock button, not sure what happens with the other functions INS update and NAV update once chained, but I practically never use these... The first part leads me to a further question though - is there a possibility in fact to release the missile heat seeker to do its own scan like in Harrier?

Is there a way to release the lock and return the seeker to boresight. If I have a lock and hit someone, the seeker stays locked until the enemy is destroyed. Also if I get a wrong one locked - how can I cancel the lock and return the seeked to boresight? Also the heat seeker with radar locking seems to be shooting wherever...

Frustrating mouse problem in VR / order of starting VR- Odyssey+
Jyge replied to DutchCoolHand's topic in Virtual Reality
For me this happens only once in awhile, particularly if something crashed. Then I need to shutdown Steam VR, Windows VR and I unplug O+. Then I plug it in again. Normally I do not start Steam VR, I use skatezilla's updater, start DCS and the steam will come up by itself. If I need to look at desktop while in VR, I take off the headset, alt+tab and go for the stuff I need, then I click on DCS window somewhere to activate it and put on the headset. No need for Win+Y, does no good for me and this way the mouse works after putting on the headset as well... -
I had Rift for couple of months and I went for Odyssey+, the resolution just was not enough for me. Now I am better off I feel. There was lately a discount for 299 EUR, I do not know if it is still on. For that price it is unbeatable -I only sit and play DCS, if I did something else sticking with Oculus might be better. For me the switch was worth it. -There was the bug with cross-eyed view with O+, but from what I gathered there is a fix for it? I luckily do not have the "problem" -Odyssey+ is more uncomfortable, but I pimped mine with a "top" from go pro flexible straps and now it sits like a helmet and is actually cooler to put on take of as Rift -if you go for a 5K you might be out for a longer wait and I can not say about the benefit, particularly with price from O+ to 5K or Vive Pro, from clarity probably no gain and FOV, well you need to have the horsepower for it, and it does not seem to be out yet on PC hardware and on DCS. So you can do as I did, get O+, if it's ok for you keep it and put the Rift in ebay - should sweeten the deal a lot (particularly with O+ for 299 you get your own back). If you find it sucks send it back, give it enough time tweaking the quality though...

When I mark my position few times the map starts being pretty shoddy. Is there a way to wipe it clean :)?

Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?
Jyge replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
Well there is also amazon with salty 399 EUR and shipping to Europe as well. Really pity, the headset is excellent, if you do not consider the comfort aspects - pretty stupid from Samsung IMO https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Wireless-Controllers-XE800ZBA-HC1US/dp/B07HS7R1RT/ref=sr_1_7?crid=82Y7ADX94OKT&keywords=samsung+odyssey+plus&qid=1550516035&s=gateway&sprefix=samsung+odyss%2Caps%2C343&sr=8-7 -
I was wondering whether there was ever any effort to implement ricochets. I was doing some strafing runs with Huey and Mi-8 and something felt missing - I realized that it could be lack of ricochets. Usually there are quite a bit of those. Here for example, @ about 0:32 : Well just another eye candy dream...

I have the same problem too. Mi-28 even speaks in the radio about attacking the armoured targets or infantry and then simply skedaddles to base. Anyway, I loaded myself up with some guns and destroyed the convoy myself, mission accomplished. Nothing gets done if you one does not do it himself.

Hi can you perhaps post an amazon link so that I can get a better idea. Searching it in amazon myself got a battery of solutions for my foot fungus and 6th toe or what not even something to fill my bras with but I got no wiser for the actual dilemma. I also heard that someone got some double sided velcro straps hat offsetted the original foam some. Meanwhile I ordered myself already this https://vrcover.com/product/samsung-odyssey-plus-replacement/ No idea if it is better in any ways - I do not mind the original foam, just the way the whole thing interacts with my nose, so I could use some more thickness and something nice for my beak...

I made a following mod myself: Couple of elastic straps and then couple of non-elastic straps. Got most of the material by ordering a GoPro headstraps from amazon ~8 EUR and taking it apart. Pretty comfy, do not need to screw the hoop from hell past the headache level anymore. However, I am still not perfectly happy with the face foampads. The material is nice and all that but it could be slightly thicker and moreover the nosecover is chafing my nose and I do not necessarily need light coming in from that opening. I read from somewhere somebody using some velcro spacers or so to elevate the foam - or can someone recommend some facepad kit that would do with Odyssey+ and possibly cover the nose as well?

Try these settings for clear (not blurry) VR! Nvidia users
Jyge replied to Nascar's topic in Virtual Reality
Ok, I tried this and I get a very good clarity on Odyssey+ and I also get very decent stable frames. I had a slight lag with tracking I think, it is much smoother now. Also the milky windows on Mi-8 are significantly less milky. -
Look at the vertical value 1440<1600 and 200° FOV means also less horizontal pixels for the 110° area in relation...

Most of the movement platforms do not seem to reproduce the accelerations of an aircraft correctly. What pilot sees is not really related to the attitude. In a 60° clean bank you have 2 g straight down in the cockpit nothing lateral - it is dead wrong to tilt the seat sideways (hint: look at the ball in the bank indicator). In fact if you roll rapidly you should have an initial tilt to the opposite side of the roll to simulate initiation of the roll and then center the seat to upright as you reach a constant roll rate. Pilots hate negative g, for this reason you often see them go inverted before pulling the nose down instead of pushing the nose down directly for a steep dive. By performing half a barrel roll and pull and roll upright again you experience positive g throughout the manouver. Only time you have sideways acceleration in the cockpit is when you side-slip and fly ball off-center, so normally you should not see the platform tilted sideways for any prolonged period... Tilting up and down is a bit different story. Beyound that I see no real benefit from adding 3rd DOF, it seems to be fully out-of-scope. You can tilt the platform/seat to align the real gravity vector to the inertial acceleration vector in the cockpit and you can add positive negative g feeling by tilting the seat back and forth for fooling the senses - this you can achieve with 2 DOF already. Here couple of ideas: https://youtu.be/9M47PngEr3s

I would be interested in comparisons to Vive Pro or Odyssey+ as they actually put out more pixels per inch as 5K...
-
I am pretty sure it is beneficial with 110° FOV as the sharp focus of an eye is only couple of degrees. However, I am not sure it is going to bring any real benefit as the resolution of the Vive's lenses can not provide any more boost for that couple of degrees. So in the end you might get performance boost due lower rendering costs, but gain nothing in terms of quality as you do not put any more pixels into 2° cone and need to load up the system with eye tracking. I would be exited about vari-focal on top of that but thanks to Zuckerberg we might not see it coming too soon...

Which VR do you use? -
That's more or less what I was implying, they surely got the ball rolling, but now Oculus is worryingly absent in the latest technological advancements.

I already noticed this when flying Huey campaign that it is difficult to fly formation with AI. Today I was playing with Mi-8 and started looking at the AI's flying a little bit more carefully. I came to the conclusion that for terrain following and changing the height the AI, IMO uses too much pitch like an aircraft. I myself tend to use more collective and change the pitch attitude less, this simply to maintain airspeed and preserve the translational lift. The jerky climb that AI does seems very unreal when going over the hill they loose almost all forward speed as they pull up the nose so much...

Unfortunately, as the article said - they aim to milk the professional market and it's probably going to go with an uninteresting price tag for a private person. I find that they react correctly putting the pixels to the clarity instead of FOV. Let's see where that brings us. Agree on facebook-free solution and I am really sad how Oculus seems to have completely dropped out the picture, Zuckerberg probably gralloched the goose laying golden eggs.

Thx, that has actually good tips for setting up the map page. I am still wondering - even in this video they had on the default page the arrow on the deviation window. Is it something that I just can not see in VR? Also the question, what is the quickest way to switch between waypoints in the flight plan?
-
I have the module already for awhile, now I tried it really for the first time. I switched it on in Mi-8 could not figure it out and had to do the unthinkable - read the manual and watch the tutorials. I was appalled by this outrage, I normally do not have to sink so deep. Anyway, after awhile enduring the monotonous tutorials, I tried it again and was not much more enlightened. At least, it seems to get the flight plan from the mission so one does not need to type it all in. I still keep on wondering on couple of things. The map view is pretty much useless and the default window is cluttered with plenty of crappola. I wonder what is the purpose of the "deviation window" - it shows absolutely no needle to steer towards. The closest I get for some advice how to get to the next waypoint is by trying to match the TRK and DTK figures. It's a little bit unpractical as the the TRK is a derived value and as such always with some lag. Then the second thing is - I can apparently switch of the automatic WP-change, which is supposedly such an important function that it needs an own button, but there seems to be no simple way of manually just skip the current WP and go towards the next waypoint. The problem is that the automatic switch requires you to get pretty close to the WP before switching. I do not know if this is really based on a real Garmin or so, but the interface is destined to steer you straight on a mountain. I would really appreciate a similar mod, featuring a simple pilot's private iPad and google maps. I tried to search the Youtube, but nobody has really bothered making one simple tutorial that shows the essential and the benefit of the whole thing.

I was trying to edit dedicated On and Off mapping for the cockpit switches, but apparently it does not work that easily. For example, on the right panel //Missile Heat On/Off - R_SHIFT+'B' //IR-SAR Missiles Master - R_SHIFT+'N' //Pylon 1-2 Power On/Off - R_SHIFT+'M' //Pylon 3-4 Power On/Off - R_SHIFT+',' //GSH-23 Gun Power Switch - R_SHIFT + '.' All work On and Off with repeated clicks. Also in the cockpit never mind right or left click always On and then Off. I would like to have separate On and Separate Off so that I can program it all in joystick to switch everything on or everything off (like a Master Arm On or Off script). I have done similar things already in Mirage or so, but Mig-21 seems to be persistent of following different logic.

I am currently flying the Viggen Red Flag campaing and there are some waypoints where one should perform manual alignment of NAV system. Well the stuff is not really visible in ground radar so one should fly over the point and hit F1 and then TV Fix. I have this problem that I guess that when doing this let's say for WP B3 the system already switched over to B4 and when I am watching the scenery and trying to align, I accidently align the whole route so that B4 will land to where B3 was supposed to be. Can I somehow reset this? I tried "Rensa" but it did not seem to do anything. Then a second question, I had a mission where I was supposed to bomb something in the night and I chose to do the level bombing. So I input 221 and 253 on the computer. Well after screwing up my NAV alignment I considered going back to CCIP - fat change (I should have probably taken out the manual and search for another code while speeding mach 0.84 over the target area) - so I spend longer time trying to realign the target waypoint to ground targets. I think it can not be that difficult/unlogical? EDIT: Apparently I had low drag bombs and therefore no CCIP (nothing to do with the codes I tipped) - I should have probably switch to DYK mode on Weapon Selector and go to Dive Mode. Anyway the problem with the screwed NAV alignment remains

Neither nor rings a bell, have never tried without screen, though. Have you tried closing down everything WMR and SteamVR, unplugging the USB from the headset and then replugging it again. Can not really believe the restart would be necessary.
