Based on Wags little commentary on it...tempting. Just got my Rift last July, and other items come first, but I might start setting a little aside...

I find I mostly using it in high bank turns. Is it even possible to case 1 pattern without rudder input?

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

So excited about this. Been keeping the cash set aside for this in anticipation! The immersion looks fantastic compared to fighting with the mouse in VR...- 3421 replies

As a developer (Well, front end developer) I can sympathize. But glad it was discovered before you shipped! Darn semi-colons. ;)- 3421 replies

Woot! Looking forward to this! (This is actually taking priority over a new throttle, haha)- 3421 replies

I'm assuming early summer / late spring. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Vibration pad/chair make it easier to fly?
A2597 replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ya'll are convincing me to buy one this October. It's on the books now. Question, does this work in XPlane 11 too? My dad is primarily an XPlane VR Pilot. (And a RL pilot, sooo, immersion) -
Sounds like two things got assigned to throttle, and one is taking priority. Look through the settings and see if there's a second controller assigned (like an xbox controller)

Yep, I've had this issue, then noticed it's because I didn't switch to nav. I am curious, why does it work on the ground, but not on the air, without switching on NAV? Also, why does it effect the bubble style compass?

Vibration pad/chair make it easier to fly?

That much input? Making me ponder one now! -
...Well then... that's some speed. I think when I'm loitering over the target I'm just in full military thrust and around 350... So you go full burners in on the drop?
-
Something I constantly struggle with is getting the CCIP crosshair over my target from any decent altitude. I feel like I always have to wait until I'm almost directly over the target at 10,000ft, nose down to -30 (or -40) dive, then...wait...wait..wait... take a sip of coffee...keep waiting...ponder if I'll have time to pull up before the reticle is over the target, and now that I'm at about 1000ft, be able to drop bombs and pull up, praying the AAA doesn't hit me. In videos it always seems like people can get these bombs much further forward, from a much higher altitude, with less of a dive. What's the trick?

Equipment recommendation for noob
A2597 replied to Frapeforte's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Depends on price. Having used the HotasX on the F-18, I don't reccommend it. The T16000 stick and throttle will serve you much better, or a CH Fighterstick + TWCS. Then head tracking for sure, Either make a freetrack setup or buy TrackIR. And rudder pedals for immersion and toe breaks / ground steering. Way more immersive than twist stick. -
T1600M vs CH Fighterstick/Combatstick
A2597 replied to davidtsw's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The problem is, none of the things on the stick are "Not so important". Main hat: Trim, you will use this a lot Cursor Select (Which screen are you using) You will use this a lot AA Weapon Selection: (Gun, Aim120, Aim9, Aim7) All very useful to have at your fingertips. Since you have the CH throttle, you may get by just using a modifier key and the hat, I did that for the longest. As for price, I just watched Ebay and found a used fighterstick for 50$, End of day, I think you'll be pleased with either option. But I still vote CH. :) -
I dunno, the landmass doesn't look quite right.... Maybe the isles of the Seanchan?

That bit of delay is a matter of a couple hours as far as I've noticed BTW. I'm guessing it used to be longer given how often I see it mentioned.

T1600M vs CH Fighterstick/Combatstick
A2597 replied to davidtsw's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I know, I've flown with the HotasX, T.16000, and the CH Fighterstick. I would say I flew similarly on the T.16000 and CH Fighterstick, but the T.16000 has an absolutely abysmal button layout for use in a modern fighter. If paired with the TWCS throttle you get the hats you need, but he's already stated he has the CH Throttle. Being able to access the controls you need more than makes up the resolution differences, and if you keep the CH stick on it's base (and no extenders) the resolution is more than enough to fly with precision. Yes, if you use the base buttons you have the same number of buttons on each, I'm aware, that's why the CH mod onto the T.16000 works...but they don't make sense in flight. "Oh, I need to get my Sidewinder, let me see, that's the right most button on the top row of the base buttons" doesn't make nearly as much sense as "Weapon select hat right" Ditto for the sensor control switch. -
T1600M vs CH Fighterstick/Combatstick
A2597 replied to davidtsw's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Having used both, I say CH Fighterstick. I did get a used one off Ebay, but trust me, you will want the buttons and hats it has if you are flying a modern jet. And the lower precision? More than enough unless you are floor mounting it and extending the joystick shaft. Went from barely making carrier landings with a thrustmaster hotas x to nailing them with the ch fighterstick. Made a huge difference. -
I'll just tag into this thread... Is there ever a reason to tune the radio in single player? The Comms menu shows all the available frequencies (towers, JTACs, AWACS, etc) and just selecting them via the menu options I always get the response, no need to tune into the frequency... Is that intentional? Or just part of Early Access?

Something I've struggled with on the site, and a situation I've seen play out a few times is disagreements between forum users and subject matter experts (SME). It usually plays out something like SME says something, and a member of the forum disagrees because of their opinion or researched opinion, then learns that the opinion they disagreed with was from a SME, then they apologize, and we all move on. It would be really beneficial if there was some way to identify who is a SME, and who isn't. I don't think it would even be necessary to say what they are a SME of, as I've noted these users are in general very careful about what they say. It wouldn't provide them any additional privileges, but may prevent some unnecessary back and fourth "arguments". (I've been here 6 months and still have trouble knowing who is a SME/Former Pilot/Engineer/Etc). TLDR: Identify Subject Matter Experts in some manner so their input stands out from the "I read a thing on the internet" users.

Thanks for the input, I've never flown a plane IRL, so was curious!
-
Tower said 6 knots, unless ATC is borked.
-
So using a generated mission, I have a 6knot crosswind. As I gain speed, wheels still on ground I find myself having to steer my plane to counteract this crosswind quite a bit, enough that I would be in the dirt pretty quickly if I didn't, and actually had difficulty getting my "clean" takeoff straight down the runway. For landing, same issue. My velocity vector had me WAY off to the side on approach, a few hundred yards at a mile out if I were to estimate it, to touchdown on the runway. Is this right? I can see the landing (different wind speeds at different altitudes) but the takeoff really threw me, didn't think a light breeze would buffet a plane that much with wheels on ground!

New build, how is AMD Ryzen CPUs for DCS and VR?
A2597 replied to Strikeeagle345's topic in Virtual Reality
I'm using the Ryzen 5 1600 (non-x) overclocked to 3.5ghz, and it works pretty well. I run decent FPS (locked 45 in air usually, 30s on ground) with 1.5PD, and most things turned up pretty high. Pondering an upgrade at some point, but between it and a GTX1080 I'm pretty happy overall, and with a significant improvement in VR performance incoming I'm in a "Wait and see" for upgrade cycle.
