Ditto, back to the shader mod. We`d be shagged without it, and that`s on a i7 & 2080.

Getting very poor image quality in Rift with 2.5.4
Zoomer replied to FragBum's topic in Virtual Reality
I use the shader mod, and dump the metacache as per instructions, from the terrains, what`s the story with the FXO. I found VR performance no better on the rift with this beta and as usual went back to the shader mod. (Running a RTX 2080) -
Sometimes you just want to jump in and blast away without the setup of the modern wizardly. That`s where the MiG-15 and F-86 come in. The performance and thrill of the jet engine, but up close and personal knife fighting and mud shifting.
-
Depends what you have already. If you have the F/A-18 then I`d go with the Viggen, as the Hornet can do all that the Mirage can, and more. But if you are like me then you just go on a spending spree during these sales. The Viggen is it`s own unique experience and very high quality, the MiG 21 is another great HB module and well worth the $25, but is a different vintage and lacks the versatility of the other two. I have the Ka-50 but haven`t used it yet much, but again a very different animal that has a lot going on.

It`s not the finished article, but it has great versatility in A2G in it`s current state. Can lase targets for itself or others for GBU`s/AGM`s etc. and SEAD, plus the usual ground pounding & A2A stuff. Add VTOL & carrier ops, I think it`s one of the best modules even as is,and well worth the sale price.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
Zoomer replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Can confirm it works again, thank you. -
VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
Zoomer replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Ditto, but performance is not as good as when the shader mod is implemented imo. -
On hearing of the imminent beta release, I bought the C-101 along with the L-39. I then thought to hell with it and bought the only aircraft that I was missing from my collection, the Yak-52. The L-39 is a very nice module, but the C-101 seems have a few more options in relation to the ordnance load, looking forward to it.

Like you I bought the previous one, but on the autumn sale for $5 and I haven`t played it yet. For that money its peanuts. You can always wait to pick up 3.0 when it comes on sale in due course. You can hardly expect the man to revamp it for nothing. Maybe Baltic should have been cuter and just named it something else, then people wouldn`t have known any better, possibly a lesson for the next one.

The Harrier, not fully finished I know, but it`s extremely versatile in A2G role and of course has VTOL. The Viggen is great, but a totally different animal and produced to a very high standard by HB. Both are worth it (especially on sale) and should be in your collection at some point. Oh, I also like the M2000C, but I need to put some time into it. The F/A-18 is proving such a great aircraft, it`s taking much of my attention.

Pixel density vs MSAA vs supersampling: mid-level GPU
Zoomer replied to DeltaMike's topic in Virtual Reality
If you look at the shader mod I referenced earlier, you can edit the hmd text file.. Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Bazar\shaders, as below, "#define ENABLE_MASK 1 #define MASKSIZE 0.600f // change this to adjust the size of the mask, 0.525f seems to be ok for the Vive #define MSAA_MASKSIZE 0.25f // Mask size used for MSAA - area outside this circle will not have MSAA applied on it" You can edit the MSAA MASKSIZE, making the region where the MSAA is implemented larger or smaller. Not exactly the same, but it does give some measure of control over same. -
Pixel density vs MSAA vs supersampling: mid-level GPU
Zoomer replied to DeltaMike's topic in Virtual Reality
The shader mod gives a bit of a boost to the GPU for increased PD. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215373 I run 1.4 PD on high settings (bar shadows-flat) with 4x MSAA on a OCèd RTX 2080 & i7 4790k 4.6ghz, 24 gigs ram. The main issue is cpu optimization is poor and chokes the GPU when the map is busy. Again anything from 45-90fps. Usually 90fps when at altitude 1000ft+. Treetops 45-50fps. Nevada map can hover around the 90fps close to the ground. -
I`m using the shader mod. I have a i7 4790k @ 4.6ghz, 24 gigs of ram, RTX 2080 OC`ed and rift. I have a PD of 1.4 with the same as above but with high-water, and 16x anistropic filtering. I also have a lot of the nvidia panel maxed as well. On the Nevada map I have a least 45fps, and ~75fps probably a few hundred feet altitude, above that it settles at the 90fps. The Normandy map is the worst for performance. At airports it`s cpu bound due to poor optimization, hovering around 40fps. The game engine needs a big revamp to use multicore, the gpu is choked to about 35% load,

Do you use Radios+SRS+VAICOM+Teamspeak/Discord together? How??
Zoomer replied to Snacko's topic in DCS Modding
Purchased Vaicom the other day, I had voiceAttack from it`s use with Elite Dangerous. I have`t started to dig into it yet and set it up. I`ll have to consult some youtube guides. -
Christ ED, will you sort out the VR zoom issue once and for all, and allow the paddle axis on the front of the throttle be used for same. It`s an almighty pain in the ass to be fluting around with a button press on an already crowded hotas (T1600M), when the bloody axis is there waiting for the job. It works perfectly well in IL2 BoX w/o issue. Someone responsible just take 10 mins and sort it for the sake of us VR nuts sanity, if you would, thanks.

** UPDATE: Ground Radar 2.0 & Multiplayer Flight Planning **
Zoomer replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Excellent work, the Viggen was a new benchmark and it`s good to see HeatBlur being the ones to continue to push the boundaries, well done. As a Viggen owner and HeatBlur fan, the F-14 is a definite purchase. -
Why is VR FPS so poor in comparison to monitor?
Zoomer replied to imacken's topic in Virtual Reality
On the second mission of the red flag campaign, while stuck on the airfield for startup etc. with all the traffic and aircraft about, the fps in VR tanks to the mid 20`s/30`s. All while my 2080 gpu is running at ~35% usuage/load. My CPU is a i7 4790K OCed to 4.6ghz and it`s just bottlenecking due to the game engine`s single core limitation and poor optimization for use with modern multicore CPU`s. Regardless of what monster pc anyone builds, until the engine is overhauled then it`s like eating soup with a fork. Unfortunately most sim games are in the same boat, bring on Vulcan, VRS & DLSS to let the hardware do it`s job. Obviously the AI in heavy populated examples eats into the performance of the hamstrung CPU which in turn limits it`s bandwidth to service the GPU leading to it`s complete underutilization. -
What offence, if you are happy with 1080ti you shouldn`t feel the need or pressure to upgrade, it`s a perfectly good card. As I said, in your position I wouldn`t upgrade and you shouldn`t feel the need to be on the bleeding edge tech wise. You are not that far behind the 2080 in performance unless DLSS and other VR tech increases that gap on implementation. I agree the 2080ti would not be good upgrade for you on a cost/performance ratio and the 1080ti seems to serve your needs as it stands. I`m sure Nvidia will keep trading in the meantime and you can upgrade to the more modern tech with the next gen.
-
Well I agree that a much cheaper new 1080ti (~200 euro) would be a no brainer over the 2080 as stated. For the same price I`d have to stick with the newer, more advanced tech and by and large better performance of the 2080 over the 1080ti. I wouldn`t be dogmatic about such things and tend to look at the pros and cons in a logical manner in such decisions. If amd had a better gpu on a price /performance scale I`d opt for them over Nvidia just like I`d opt for a cheaper 1080ti, just not for the same price.
-
Who mentioned a 2nd 1080ti, the OP was clear in his line of discussion as I was in my question. Would you buy a 1080ti over a 2080 for the same price as a gpu for a pc? As for the 980, I never had one. "I just think if you could get a 1080ti for 250 less, THAT would be a great deal" as I had already stated as the obvious, and you seem in agreement with.
-
Who`s talking about the 2080ti, the question was regarding the 2080. Are you saying that you would buy the 1080ti over the 2080 for the same price?
-
Plenty of benchmarks show the 2080 ~10% or more ahead of the 1080ti with some newer games showing bigger gains. As I said, if both were of similar price the 2080 would be the no brainer pick due to its potential and performance. If the 1080ti was a chunk cheaper than it`s a good bargain and the one to pick. Who would pay the same price for a 2yr old model when you can get the new model with new tech at the same price. It would be nonsensical to do otherwise. If you have had the 1080ti for the last year or two than it would be a no brainer to keep your powder dry and wait for the 30 series when it arrives, but that wasn`t the option being discussed.
-
Vram is inclined to be filled by textures if it`s available, nature abhors a vacuum. Performance wise the 1080ti would still fall behind the 2080. Just look at the benchmarks for the most recent games, it`s a non issue and the 2080 is ahead. As I said for similar money it`s a no brainer to future proof your build with the potential for further performances increases. The 1080ti is at it`s limit and has no more legs on that front. If you can get a new 1080ti for a good deal cheaper, then it`s a good bargain. At the same price it`s not.
-
I`d be confident that the 2080 is faster than the 1080ti in DCS regardless of the extra 3 gigs of slower vram. It`s just a non issue for DCS and 4k gaming. 8k will likely need more than whats available in time to come. I play on VR where the 2080 has proven superior to the 1080ti and with Turing`s VR tech it`s a no brainer to favour the 2080 over the 1080ti at similar prices. When DLSS comes on stream the gap will only widen. https://www.roadtovr.com/nvidias-geforce-rtx-cards-bring-new-vr-rendering-features-and-enhancements/

I was in the same position as yourself and here in Europe the 1080ti was more or less the same or even more expensive than the 2080 ~840 euro. Considering this, it was a no brainer to go for the 2080 and I bought the Zotac 2080 amp. Overclocked it hits 2100mhz on the core, settling around 2040/55 at ~60c and quiet. The memory overclocks by 1200mhz at 8200mhz, giving it a good deal more legs than the 11gb memory on the 1080ti. All this makes it a superior card for similar money. Factor in the the future proof nature of the RTX and it`s new features, it`s the only choice. Only if a new 1080ti was near 200 euro cheaper would I opt for it over the 2080.
