  1. I was in the same position as yourself and here in Europe the 1080ti was more or less the same or even more expensive than the 2080 ~840 euro. Considering this, it was a no brainer to go for the 2080 and I bought the Zotac 2080 amp. Overclocked it hits 2100mhz on the core, settling around 2040/55 at ~60c and quiet. The memory overclocks by 1200mhz at 8200mhz, giving it a good deal more legs than the 11gb memory on the 1080ti. All this makes it a superior card for similar money. Factor in the the future proof nature of the RTX and it`s new features, it`s the only choice. Only if a new 1080ti was near 200 euro cheaper would I opt for it over the 2080.
  2. To update my previous thoughts. On getting my 2080 I have been doing some overclocking ending up with 2025-2050mhz on the core and a massive 1225mhz OC on the memoery >8200mhz memory, which I think a just a crazy OC. On VRMark Blue Room, my 2080 scored 3906. Where in recent benchmarks in the media the 1080ti and Titan Xp are putting out 3025 and 3257 respectively, with the 2080ti at 4586. Looks like the 2080 beats the 1080ti and Titan Xp hands down in the VR results. https://hothardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-rtx-performance-and-overclocking?page=4 On those numbers the 2080 was the better buy before even thinking of future proofing.
  3. I was in the same position as you with the 1080ti or rtx 2080. I went with the 2080 due to the 1080ti being the same price give or take, or even more expensive here in Europe. Plus the option of future proofing re DLSS for VR (hopefully). Ray tracing while interesting is not a big factor as I`m mostly a sim VR gamer. But if you can get a new 1080ti for a good deal cheaper, than it makes it a more viable option against the 2080. Mind you the 2080 seems to have a good lead on the 1080ti in newer games.
  4. I have the same 4790k OC to 4.6ghz @1.25v. My cpu usage in DCS is just over 20% while playing in VR with a 1070 OC. The 4790K can handle the 2080ti w/o breaking a sweat, it could handle two in sli if needed running at 4k. The issue is the software and optimisation. I`m looking to upgrade but may go for the 1080ti over the 2080 due to the 11 v 8 gb of vram and higher cuda core count. I notice DCS using all of the 8gb vram on my 1070. If you run out of vram it more or less kills performance dead regardless of the GPU power. 12gb vram should have been the standard for the 2080 and 2080ti at today's prices.
  5. VR is demanding no doubt, but it puts 2d gaming in the shade. IL2 Box is really just epic in VR and runs well enough, looks great with a fantastic damage model. To fly thru a bomber formation with bits of debris and aircraft flying by your canopy is a true gaming experience. DCS seems to have more difficulty running in VR and needs more TLC on the VR front, but surpasses the 2D version by a country mile. I just cannot play either on a flat screen, it`s the difference between a good wine and a bottle of vinegar. Make no mistake, for flight and race sims VR is a massive game changer and well worth the effort as is.
  6. Try this shader mod, https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215373. I have the 1070 and can run the PD at 1.3 to 1.4, big jump in performance. Just adjust the mask size as required, you can also adjust the central area size re MSAA.
  7. That`s not encouraging news. I think we are stuck until the next 30 series gpu`s arrive along with the new CV2 etc. likely another 2yrs wait. I think I`ll look for a good deal on a 1080ti as an upgrade to my 1070. The 1070 really was an outstanding gpu for the money.
  8. Do you fly IL2 BOS, I`d be interested to see the performance figures from same. BOS in my view is better optimised for VR than DCS and is an exceptional experience in VR, even with the 1070. I am looking at the 1080ti or 2080 as an upgrade but leaning towards the 1080ti due to it`s 11gb vram and cuda core count. It looks like a CV2 could be two years away at which point the 2080ti will be superseded by the next gen gpu`s so I am limiting my gpu investment until we see what the new HMD`s bring to the party. A deal on a 1080ti (new or 2nd hand) will keep me near the top in performance for a limited spend. The 2080ti is just too much money imo for what it can do and the HMD`s we have atm, but best of luck and enjoy yours.
  9. The 4790k is still one of the fastest cpu`s out there and will have no problem running two RTX 2080ti`s if needed at high resolution. It`s the software utilization that is the main issue. You should be able to run the 4790k at 4.6 ghz w/o issue. I have mine running at 4.6ghz @ 1.26v, max temps would be 68-71c @100% testing load or 48-50c with DCS running (approx 15-20% load- rift & Gtx 1070)). That`s with an AIO cooler. It`s a great CPU that will last many more years until it`s anywhere near maxed.
  10. The 4790k is today still one of the fastest cpu`s around. A 2080ti is not going to bottleneck it bar you are running games at 1080p, where an 8700k would also be in the same position. Not to mention you`d want to be put out to pasture if you were using a 2080ti for 1080 gaming. The i7 4790k is more than adequate for the job. Utilization of resources is the problem.
  11. I find Mustang`s terrain mod also seems to help a fair bit with the fps in VR, especially when flying nap of the earth. It doesn`t seem to clash with the shader mod. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=207541
  12. Installs with JSCME and better fps in VR. Also seems to work fine with the shader VR mod. Nice one OP, thanks.
  13. Just edit as described. It's in the top few lines where I think the default is .525. Change as required, I have mine set to .615 on the rift and it's good for me. Adjust for your personal choice, but it definitely works.
  14. RECOMMENDED VR SYSTEMS REQUIREMENTS (VR GRAPHICS SETTINGS): OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+ at 3+ GHz; RAM: 32GB; Hard disk space: 60 GB on Solid State Drive (SSD); Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 / ATI RX480 DirectX11 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation. The VR recommended specs are 32GB`s of ram, with the non VR version recommending the same 32 gigs of ram for multiplayer RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (HIGH GRAPHICS SETTINGS): OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+ at 3+ GHz; RAM: 16GB (32 GB for multiplayer); Hard disk space: 60 GB on Solid State Drive (SSD); Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 / ATI R9 Fury DirectX11 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation. I have 24 gigs of vengeance pro ram, but can experience an occasional freeze in VR (rift) running a 1070, i7 4790K and EVO SSD. Ram usage usually sits around the 16 gig mark. In the process of picking up an extra 8 GB on ebay... and likely a used 1080ti at some stage, then sell the 1070 (Zotac amp extreme).
  15. The 770 is an old card now and game engines evolve for the better as demanded. You can buy 2nd hand 970`s for less than a 100 euro on ebay which would solve your problem. As for your CPU, I have the same i7 4790k which is one of the best gaming CPU`s around today. My one is paired with a 1070, but I`m using a rift and would be wasting my time with anything less than that for VR purposes.
  16. It`s a trade off, increasing causes loss of FOV. I`m happy around the .61 mark. The scuba view of the rift is restrictive enough w/o reducing FOV any further.
  17. I have the fish eye view with the oculus where the difference in shaders to the edge of my vision is a bit distracting as I move my head around the cockpit. Not as noticeable on external views. I wonder can this be rectified, as it`s a nice improvement in performance. Edit. Sorted, edited the MaskSize as advised. Thanks for your efforts OP, much appreciated. I wonder would a similar approach give good results in IL2 BOS, or is it even a possibility. Thanks again.
  18. For VR I find DCS it not that optimised. I find my 1070 is around the 60-70% usage with fps skittish around 45, along with 20% cpu on the i7. I jumped back into IL2 BOS and it's far superior in VR, more prettier on the eye with a lot more clarity on the models, cockpit and terrain especially in Kuban, while making full use of the GPU. DCS has a good bit of catching up to Il2 on their engine performance. I wouldn't expect miracles with the 1080ti. OP try out BOS if you can, you'll get it cheap on sale. As a WW2 sim nothing comes near and it's glorious in VR.
