I will for sure test it out tonight and keep you posted. Thanks tmansteve!

Yes I would really like this ... thanks tmansteve. I hate flying with wingman all over the place ...
-
For the F5, there are no "Close up formation" in the communication menu. The only thing there is rejoin formation. Are you saying that you need to plan in advance what type of formation you want (in the editor). I do not understand why we are not able to call this live "Close up formation" ...

Very good info Ironhand! I will certainly keep that in mind. Thanks!

Trigger condition: BOMB IN ZONE - does it work?
Frag replied to Gierasimov's topic in Mission Editor
If it does not work, maybe you could place a soldier beside your building, give it a name, and activate your trigger on "Units Dead" instead. I am pretty sure an MK-84 would ruined this guy day, so the trigger will work. -
Hi guys, when I use AI wingman, they always fly so far away from me in formation that I barely see them. I looked around searching for a command like "Close formation" or something like that, but found nothing. Is there a way to make them flying closer? I do not mean to have them follow you "airshow style", but at least something where you can actually see them clearly and know that they are there.

Ok it's probably not a bug then. I will still play around with it, but as long as I can pickup something at 20 miles I will be alright. If anyone else are able to pick something at 40 please let me know alright!
-
Hi Ramsay, I know you know your stuff, got few replies from you in other threads. In that case, would you say that even if the F-5 can scan at 40 miles, it would probably never pick up any contacts unless its a 747? ... or ... I need to let it scan for waaayyyy longer before giving up and the reason why I am not picking anything is because I am not giving enough time for the radar to scan (I usually try a setting, then stop after 15-20 seconds if I did not pick up anything.
-
Hi guys, just a quick radar question here. I am alright with using the radar at 10 and 20 miles ... no problem moving the antenna up/down and acquire target. But for the love of god, I cannot detect anything at 40 miles. I tried everything ... going higher than my target and scan lower ... going lower and scan higher ... being at the same altitude and scan up and down. Can't detect anything, and I am talking about huge plane here (like the Il-76). Are you guys able to get contact? Any hints?

Yeah the L-39 can be a bitch if you are not cautious in high G turn. But when you get use to it, it becomes quite an easy bird to fly. But I will agree with you that the Tiger is little easier to keep straight and is more predictable.

Actually this is not an issue with the plane itself, but with all planes in a simulated world. Even in real life pilots will rely on JTAC and the soldiers on the ground to identify their target. The problem is that in a sim, the communication is not as extensive and clear as it is in real life. So if I were you, I would not feel bad about turning on the labels, which indeed would represent what the troop would tell you. Example, in real life, an officer on the ground could be relayed to you and say: "That T80 is 100 feet south of that white chapel across the lake you are currently crossing. See it?" You won't have that level of communication details in a sim. But the red label could help you pinpoint it for you, representing what the soldiers would tell you.

I have to agree with the original poster here. I love DCS, I really do ... but indeed there are tons of bugs in the shadow. Also there are mostly no reply to any bugs posted in the support forum. So I agree that there is tons of work to be done, but a proper bug reporting/update system need to be put in place. Some people could be fine with buying modules that are really bugged, waiting for a fix that may come one day ... but if a buyer do not accept to work this way, they should indeed get reimbursed if they want to in the first few hours or usage. (let's say 4-5 hours of playtime or less). I am a team lead developer myself, and every bugs reported by customers are acknowledged by the dev team, open officially and are being updated.

Hi guys, I bought the F-5 Tiger II yesterday and wanted to take few seconds to share my thought about it. My first plane was a L-39 (which is a marvelous plane by the way, everything is mostly simple, well done and the flight model feels so perfect). Briefly, it was for me the perfect intro plane. After mostly a month (and a LOT of playing around), I started to outgrow it but it did its job perfectly, which was to throw me in the DCS world without the overwhelming technology pushed by most modern planes. I learned a LOT from it and at some point I felt ready to raise the bar a bit. The F-5 Tiger II was in my head as the next one to come (but I debated a loonnggg time between it or the Viggen). But the Viggen will probably come next. The F-5 Tiger II is still really easy to fly, but would climb up a notch over the L-39 in many areas. But the simple avionics and basic radar made me feel at home after the L-39, while feeling the obvious upgrade in engine power, weapon choice and roles on the battlefield. I was like NIIIIICCCCCE!!! I did not get lost at all, only a new smile grew on my face. It is a very comfortable transition, so I wanted to share here, in case that some newbies like me were debating it in their head. VERY smooth actually... Growing from simpler planes to the toughest one is a good way to go in my book. I would not have liked to jump in the latest F-18 on day one. It will come at some point, but I want to feel the transition and be 100% comfortable with a plane before making the jump to a next one. The Tiger II is an AWESOME and simple plane. I REALLY enjoy it.

TO my surprise, that guide answered mostly all my questions. I wish the flight manual that come with the plane was that clear! Good work chuck! Keep it rocking!

Problem solved! Thanks Bun! I owe you one. I dont know I felt the standard should have been left click for the digit and right click for the letters since they are both on the same knob. But its fine. Thanks again!

Hi guys, using the latest version of 2.5. When trying to set a TACAN channel ...let's say 67, I can change the tenth value of the channel wit the left rotary knob, but the write one only switches the letter (X or Y) and I cannot change the units. So I am stuck with either 60 or 70, but cannot got to let's say 67. I tried left clicking, right clicking ... no luck. I am missing something? Here is a screenshot attached, the red arrow show where I am trying to click. I found that you can change it with SHIFT-8 and CTRL-8, but no way from the cockpit?

I couldn't wait anymore. Mac user who bought a PC

GOGOjuice, buy it directly from DCS! They have their own client now and it works really well. I commonly read here people getting issues with the steam version. Go DCS download and don't look back. -

Holy hell I think you are ready to go!!!! But with a monster system like that, as constructive criticism, you should think about getting 32 gig. 16 gig can be short those days with Windows 10 and heavily modded games. I am a big player of Kerbal Space Program and I have that game eating 16 gig by itself with all the mods loaded. Everything else is monstrous ...you will ENJOY this! -
L-39C Mission: The International Bounce-off Water Event
Frag replied to Frag's topic in User Created Missions General
Ok I'll throw the first hard ball. This morning, out of lucky shot, I was able to pull 188.92 seconds ... putting me in second place. HOW unlucky I was since I got 2 idiots altitudes violations in the power line areas, adding 14 seconds to my time. Imagine without those! Someone can beat this?! -
I really really tried to love the Gazelle but I couldn't for few reasons. It's all about the feeling you know. The flight physic seems fake but I can't say why ... I can't make that thing auto hover without fighting with it for 10 minutes even though I am really stable. I always end up restarting a game and trying to land the Huey instead LOLL. I bought the chopper package of September so I have the MI8 as well, but I did not try it out yet. I would like to fully handle the Huey before doing so.
-
WO fully blind landing. Quite impressive! If I ever try this out, a local pub will end up with an L-39 planted in the roof as a decoration.

That demo is awesome Ramsay!!! Thank you very much to take the time to do this! Following your steps to A to Z made me realize that I was following and using the equipment correctly, but my technique was lacking. I initially thought that at some point, the equipment would lead me directly to the entrance of the glide path (like 20 km away) but it is not the case. I understood it while looking at your video when you decided to let pass the airfield at your 9 O'clock, to fly perpendicularly to it (almost) ... then followed the instrument to roll in at the good moment. The video resolved my issue. Thanks a LOT. Maybe one last question if I may ... did you notice that the elevation bar between the RMI and the SDU are rarely agreeing on the elevation to keep? I noticed that you followed the one from the SDU so I am ok with this ... but just in case that I am missing something.

Damn I wish I could land the Huey. I fly an fly and fly but 3 landings out of 4 end up in the ditch. Watched full of tutorials and read everything and I understand it, but cannot do it LOLLL Not blaming the Huey by the way, I am the dumb ass pilot here. I can land a K-50 on a trash can in proper balance on a single skid, but I cannot land the Huey is a 25 square kilometers empty parking lot. I am starting to think that only practice practice and muscle memory will fix this. I LOVE the feel of that chopper. I SO wish that they will do a solid Blackhawk ...

Hi guys, what are the exact conditions to get the auto hover to kick in? I am trying to like that chopper ... I really do. But the 10 minutes fight with the Q key to get it to get in auto hover really gets me. I am commonly REALLY stable and not able to engage the auto hover. To finally get it kickin in for no apparent reason. Briefly, what are the exact condition to get it hooked? Thanks

Hi guys, I am interested in night/bad weather navigation without cheating and there is something that I can't figure out. First here is how I set the RSBN, for example, at Krymsk (see attached picture), the navigation channel is 28 and the landing one is 26. - So I set RSBN to ON on the electrical panel - Set Channel 28 on RSBN for navigation channel - Set Channel 26 on RSBN for landing channel - Both light are turning green on the panel which is a good sign. - The distance on the gauge under the RMI seems good. If I follow the RSBN needle in the RMI, it always brings me directly to the center of the airport. I would be under the impression that it should bring me to the location at the entry on the "glide down path", where the channel 26 is. I watched few tutorial on youtube, but they did not give any details about the external channel and the internal one. I am missing something. Is there a full tutorial very well explained somewhere? Even though I select, NAV, GlidePath, or LANDING. That RMI always point right center of the airport, which lead me right over it, but not in the correct descend path. Also keep in mind that in my example I am coming fully perpendicular to the airfield at 90 degrees (at around 50 km)... with no clue where I am (full cloud and darkness). So if I follow the RMI, I am ending up crossing the runway at a 90 degrees angle.
