  1. Just as well you've given up, I don't think anyone else has a clue what are you're talking about
  2. Where two players may have the same stick with limited buttons, one may have a throttle with more buttons than the other. This might force one person to use modifiers, where the other could use extra buttons on the throttle. You can't account for every scenario.
  3. It depends on the pitot design and failure mechanism. Some pitots have drains. If the front of the pitot blocks but the drain remains clear, you'll only have static pressure reading and the ASI will drop to 0. If there's no drain, or it blocks too, then yes you'll get the problem as you describe. Not sure which is true for the Hornet though.
  4. The Dunning-Kruger effect seems to be invoked here, from both ends of the spectrum. New-ish players think that it's possible to improve the training to encompass everything because they've picked up some of the basics - they've no idea how far they still have to go. The experienced players think it's easy to find the resources for everything - they've forgotten how far they've come. Unfortunate that the OP couldn't have been more diplomatic, otherwise it might have been possible to meet in the middle and come to a consensus on how things could be improved.
  5. Someone supports your view, and you still manage to come across as if you're disagreeing with them. Sums up your why you're failing to persuade people quite nicely I'd say.
  6. It could be. A shame that Vertigo72 has drowned out this valid point by arguing for 18 pages that 'better' means 'perfect' and 'getting started' means 'able to do everything'.
  7. It's your assertion that the training resources are inadequate for getting started, so the burden of proof is on you. Also, you say mastering now, when previously you said getting started. Anyway, I'm out. You've got nothing productive to say so as far as I'm concerned you're just trolling.
  8. The manuals and training missions combined are good enough for most new players to find out how to accomplish most tasks at a basic level. It may not cover everything, but you'll learn enough to ask the right questions if you need more information. Your argument that they're totally inadequate because there are some gaps is just ridiculous.
  9. The fact we've taken 12 pages to get somewhere suggests you weren't as clear as you think you were. A shame, as I think the lack of depth of training you've brought up is worthy of discussion, but undermined by you rubbing people up the wrong way.
  10. So the missions are fine, they just don't cover every topic you want to see covered? I'd say that's a valid point, but not what you asked for in the first place.
  11. I think your idea of what constitutes 'getting started' sounds much more like 'being proficient'. If you've gone through a training mission, whatever it might be, such as how to drop a bomb, and by the end of it you can do that, the mission did what it was supposed to. That's getting started. The training mission isn't there to answer absolutely any question that you might have, which is what you appear to be asking for.
  12. You are remembering where YOU struggled. Another player may struggle with something entirely different. New players will find DCS complex. Well actually it's x10 more complex than they realise. Trying to develop an interactive trainer that can anticipate even the majority of questions that might come up would be a monumental task, and I suspect just not within the means of ED to develop. If you want a productive discussion the best thing to do is accept what you're asking for won't happen; that'll allow the conversation to move on and allow for opportunities to think of practical alternatives.
  13. Beyond identifying DCS is hard for new players (true) and that it needs a virtual trainer (impractical) I'm really struggling to see what your point is.
  14. "...because I couldn't figure out how to bind a button" is one reason for giving up with DCS I've never heard before.
  15. I don't think they were trying to be condescending. There are plenty of resources for getting going in DCS, and these will work for most. But as draconus says, there's no way to account for the gaps in knowledge that every single new player is going to have. If you ask a general question like "how do I start this plane" you ARE likely to be told to RTFM. That's not because people are being rude/unhelpful, it's because that really is the fastest/easiest way to reference all the required steps. If you have something specific that you don't understand, that's the kind of question that can be asked on this forum, because someone can provide you with a specific answer.
  16. ADI has turn rate also; easier to reference than the standby indicator.
  17. It isn't an issue. NWS activates automatically on touchdown, it's not supposed to be turned off.
  18. It is functional (unless it's bugged out recently). It's just not immediately apparent it's doing anything until you've travelled some distance (either laterally or axially) from the point where you initially engaged it.
  19. To be fair, your argument read that those who were landing fine didn't know what they were taking about, where as those who couldn't were the experts. Which was no less condescending, but also makes no sense. Anyway, do you know if tracks of SC landings are reliable? Watching back in show mo could be useful.
  20. Why are you making things personal? If some people are having success and you're not, it isn't their fault. I'm not seeing a contraction in your scenario either. If you're low your approach will be more shallow than it should be, so it's going to be very easy to drift over the wires. Screenshots or descriptions aren't going to help here either. Can you provide a video showing the issue?
  21. Whether the LSO calls match the IFLOLS is a separate issue to whether the IFLOLS is accurate though.
  22. It will only follow the waypoints you give it so won't turn into wind. Maybe with later updates. No way to change the wind speed as far as I know. One way around that problem is just have wind set to 0 and have the carrier steam at 30kts, and that's the wind over deck requirement sorted in any direction.
  23. You have to be on the ground for the wind to make you yaw, so that's not it.
