  1. This is getting really frustrating. I hit the stadium, get confirmation of good hits. Orbit around waypoint 4. Get the message from overlord about the escapees in the vehicle. Come out of the orbit flying toward the stadium as I contact the JTAC. Get the 9 line, he asks if ready for further talk-on, right as I click to reply, I get told I haven't killed the vehicles. Well, no kidding.......and I failed the mission. WTH? Maybe I should have stayed in the orbit????????
  2. Thank you Ziptie, this is great info. Will be so much easier than using the mouse to operate the buttons next to the DDI.
  3. Yes, I tried the NVGs but the illumination flares over the stadium whited everything out. I didn't try them w/ the vehicles. I never saw the vehicles, just saw their lockon indicator on the MavE screen. I will keep trying this. Thanks for the help.
  4. Campaign = THE SERPENT'S HEAD (Nevada and Caucasus) Rev 07 SUPERCARRIER Mission = REMOVING THE SERPENTS HEAD. (Black Sea) Maybe they are escaping in trucks? Anyway they are escaping from the stadium after I bombed it and I am called to take them out by the JTAC. The JTAC lases them for me I have never used NVGs before so wasn't aware they need to be loaded before takeoff. Thank you for that. I will try again.
  5. I have been having a hard time passing mission 4. Unable to make NVGs work. Today I finally did a good bomb run, then went after the escaping cars w/ MavE. Thought I was on my way to a win but....nearly back to waypoint 3 I get told I had not taken out both cars. Well, h--l, if I had known that, I could have tried w/ gun. Too late now. Another mission fail.
  6. Thank you for this. I have had that hold needed or not variation for a long time. Never could figure out why. I thought maybe it was something that was set in various missions by the writer. Now I know.
  7. That is great info. Thank you.
  8. I have been flying a lot lately w/ laser Mavs and a JTAC. I set up all 4 Mavs w/ their codes early on and they stay until the Mav is fired. I don't have this down by weapon, but I have noticed that w/ some weapons there is a button on the weapon page for code, and there is always a button on the UFC for code. If there is a 'code' button on the weapon page push it and then also the 'code' button on the ufc. Also don't forget to push 'enter' right after you push the fourth number button. One other point, don't forget after entering code for the first weapon, go back to the weapon page and 'step' to the next weapon on the wing form diagram and repeat the process.
  9. This is the mission Sams Slam in the Supercarrier revision of Serpents Head (Nevada and Caucuses) Rev 07. I apologize for mixing this up w/ Serpents Head 2. My mistake.
  10. I guess I used AB too much. I did hang around and made several run-ins to take out the SAMs. I hit AB every time I avoided a SAM and noticed on one avoidance I was still in AB after several minutes flying a big loop to get lined up for another run.
  11. How did you get Kutaisi to refuel you. Where did you take the plane to? I taxied all over there yesterday. Stopped every place I saw fuel trucks and a few I didn't. Hit R key, removed the armament, set fuel to 60%, and couldn't get anything to happen.
  12. Glad you found the problem. Recently I wanted to add a bit of dead space to the pitch axis of my stick. Started scrolling through and found a bunch of bindings that looked like they would be for the stick and they were all completely empty. Stick is working fine, so at the time I said forget it, I am not messing w/ something that is working. Two days ago I was in the controls page again and it dawned on me- the stick stuff is in the axis section. What do you know, right there they are, all functions have assignments and it was easy to ad a dead zone. Some times these controls can be a little bit crazy can't they.
  13. I just learned about the FPAS page a month or so ago. When I am flying a mission and am starting to head to the carrier I set the tacan so I then have distance to carrier. Then I check FPAS which has a range #. Since I suck at tanking from a plane, I am always happy to see a range # larger than carrier distance.
  14. Padre I agree 100%. I have made a couple of very simple missions of my own to use for learning and I am in awe of anyone who can put together a realistic mission, let alone a campaign. I have only been flying campaigns for maybe 3-4 months now and I know I have come across many techniques that I was not up to speed on. I am getting better at hitting pause, researching something, and coming back to try to get through w/ my new knowledge. OTOH, reading through this forum about different campaigns I see I am not the only one who gets stuck on a certain mission. I think it may be time to have a button one can click to move to the next mission. Or maybe a max of 5 attempts and then move on whether one has passed or failed. I understand that this wouldn't be realistic but at some point we need to be able to choose between realism and moving on. After all I have been killed many times in a mission and L Shift-R lets me fly it again. There are 2(?) more missions in OitW campaign that I'd love to fly but.....
  15. You can use any button for the TIR F12 function. I use a button on my joystick. I have F1, F2, F10, F6, and F12 on a row of buttons across the base. I have a Brother label maker that makes nice white on black labels.
  16. I tried deleting just mission 13. That kills the entire campaign so not an option.
  17. I am still stuck on Mission 13. Flew it 8 times now and getting frustrated. Of four 82LGs I usually only get 2 hits. Some are my fault because I forget to re-arm the LTDR. But I don't understand how these are supposed to work. We know that the laser only fires for the last 10-15 seconds of the bomb's fall so it seems there is a limit as to how much correction could be applied. Other than that last bit of laser firing these should act just like a dumb bomb right? So w/o the laser maybe it misses the launcher but dang, I should see it blow up something in the near vicinity right? On several drops just to try to see what is going on, I zoom out so I can see the entire area of the facility. The bomb doesn't hit the launcher but it doesn't hit anywhere else either. Yesterday my first bomb didn't hit the launcher (laser has been armed for the last 30 miles so I don't forget it again), so I fly on about 10 miles, do a 180 turn, re arm the laser and fly back onto the same bomb fall line for the same launcher, push and hold the button as soon as I see the release cue dropping down the fall line. This one hits just fine. So maybe it is me, maybe it's DCS, I don't know. I am really enjoying this campaign but flying the same mission 8+ times at 30 minutes each is getting really boring. The edit the logbook stuff isn't any more reliable for me than the bombs are. I would like to see campaigns include a manual button to move on to the next mission.
  18. OK, I will try again later today.
  19. Ok, so I downloaded it, extracted it to the same folder the campaign is in now. And now, in DCS, I have two Oil in the Water campaigns to choose from. If I click the new one it takes me to the Prologue which I believe is the first mission. Should I delete the old one?
  20. I have a 7-8 degree deadzone in both directions in all three axis.
  21. You will be fine w/ just the Stennis carrier. Fly and get used to it and then upgrade to the Supercarrier. An additional recommendation for the carrier. Just do straight-in approaches until you are really good at them and flying at onspeed AOA is natural. Then start doing the actual pattern traps. They are an entire next level of skill. When you are ready for pattern landings download Banklers Case 1 training mission.
  22. Thanks Bunny. I never would have thought about a UI feature. I was thinking about getting the latest version. If I do that will I lose all my progress so far?
  23. A curiosity in Mission 13. So I haven't won this one but still working on it. Early on I thought maybe I wasn't actually flying close enough to Bullseye and that is why I never was told which target to hit by Wizard. That has been solved by waiting so I am last or next to last to launch from the carrier. But I watch my progress sometimes on the HSI page, (but I think it is the same on the SA page) so I can easily set the new heading if I want to, and here is the weirdness. I have the AP set flying me up to bullseye and plan to fly through it and then start an orbit. Just before the plane symbol touches the bullseye, the bullseye moves sideways and then down, and then back under the plane. You can see this bullseye movement by watching it vs the dotted sequence track lines. It's as if it gets out of the way of the plane, and then as the plane passes it, it moves back. Anyone else notice this?
