I will check through bindings later today and let you know what I find. Thanks.

To skip all the quick moves needed in a traditional pattern trap, to try to diagnose, I approach at about 3000ft at 10 miles out. Chop to idle and drop gear and hook just under 250. At just under 190 go to full flaps and adjusting trim to get on AOA. So I get centered in the E bracket and fly the ICLS cross. I keep needing to add more up trim. I get the screen up to watch the trim # and as I drop lower in the E I see trim dropping, 16deg,15, 13, 12. When I do a quick hit on the trim button, I see the # climb along w/ the VV in the E. But this is constant and has been for at least a month. Used to be each adjustment had a huge wild effect, almost uncontrollable. The last couple of days it has calmed down but the constant trim loss is still there. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas for diagnosis technique?

I went looking for sounds and found this tutorial video. The warning sound I was asking about starts at about 5:05. And now I realize I should probably have looked around for a tutorial before posting a question. I do see why I was missing some info. It is obvious watching the video when the symbol changes shape and moves to the inner ring. That is not so obvious when I am looking elsewhere, maybe setting up a bomb and/or looking at a flir display, and I have many more symbols than the 3-4 in this tutorial. Also I thought the symbol would move inside the ring but it just moves to the ring. I expect I will find several more tutorials when I look in the next couple of days. Thanks a lot to all of you for your help and question which has put me on the right track.

dorianR666, that is what I am not understanding. There may be 8 SAMs, planes etc arrayed around the EW display. I fly along and suddenly deedle, deedle. But I see nothing different on the EW. One of them went from searching(?) to tracking (?) me but I see nothing to indicate which. Brass2-1, I will look at that next flight. I have the SA page up but in whatever it's standard mode is. Looks like I need to learn how to select what shows there. Thanks everyone for the help.

Slowly but surely I am learning and using more FA-18 features but I don't know how to tell who or what is tracking me. Example; I am on a mission primarily to bomb a target. I have 'radar attack' on the right screen, EW on the left, and SA on the lower screen. I have DL and RWR on. I start getting the deedle, deedle, deedle in my ear so I know that I am being tracked. But who or what is doing the tracking? It seems to me this would be good to know but I don't know how to get that info. Is there another system I should have operating? Or is there a different display I should look at? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Left Main Gear Doors Missing After Departure
CBStu replied to hrnet940's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I have lost the nose gears doors twice. I 'think' I didn't get them up in time so was over the 250. I am not sure of that because of course I didn't know there was a problem until way to late. -
That is pretty much what I have been doing- using other methods. But I happened to try a mission where the standard loadout would not allow room for Atflir pod so had to try CCIP. Since reading here that many of the setup routines we need to go through would, in RL, be done on the ground and a cartridge inserted into the jet, lately I have been using the F10 map, or mission planning map, to get coords to set up an extra waypoint. Then I can set that and use waypoint designate for targeting.
-
The last day or two I have been flying a mission requiring long flights so an extra tank under each wing. There are multiple targets so 2 dumb bombs under the fuselage and some MavF under the wings. I hate CCIP (and now I know why) so have been trying alternate armaments but have yet to be successful. This really pi$$e$ me off. The absolute simplest type of bombing is bugged and has been for years??? They have had time apparently to design and build not just one, but two Flir pods, ground radar, a new carrier, a FLOLs cartoon, etc, etc, etc. ED fix this crap!
-
Jeez, so now CCIP is down too. Great. I wonder how many hours the OP wasted trying and trying just to find out it isn't him screwing up. As I said in another thread, I'd like to see ED fix all the bugs before they spend time putting out a new 'feature'.
-
I'd like to see all the little bugs fixed. I'd much rather that everything we now have works properly than we are given new goodies.

raven one, success on wrong mission.
CBStu replied to nighteyes2017's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I don't know. I like the idea of the new campaign mission listing but there seem to be some glitches. There have been a couple of times where I wanted to refly a mission but the only option was 'skip'. There seems to be different ways you can stop a mission also which cause different things to happen depending which you chose. I have gotten a popup that says something about losing all my campaign progress if I do X. I haven't a clue how all this works but I know that campaign writers can set up how you progress from one mission to the next different ways. I wonder if maybe the DCS process reacts differently when applied to different campaigns. -
Using fuel flow readings as an airspeed indicator
CBStu replied to A A ron's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I probably use the F10 map more than I should. If the map on the screen in the plane was better, maybe that would be reduced but it sucks. And it is on the least readable of the three screens. I have tried several times to use the map on the screen, even hitting pause and flipping back and forth between it and F10. To me it is worthless. In several campaigns I have flown there is a note about finding a tanker. Something about it won't be visible on Tacan until XYZ. I think some of this can be controlled by the campaign 'writer'. I notice that in most all of the missions supplied w/ DCS, my plane shows on the F10 map and it is white. On a lot of campaigns I don't show on the F10. On some my wingman shows but I don't. Lately I have been trying to learn more about the SA and EW pages which have a lot of info. But often the EW page has so many overlapping symbols that they are not readable. And of course that is one page that doesn't have a declutter button. I have printed two pages of EW symbols and their meaning and there are still things showing up that I can't figure out. For now, as long as it isn't colored red, I don't worry about it. -
If you can rearm before takeoff, dump the 7s and replace them w/ 9x.

The throttles work fine but since the top grip portion is offset from the lever pivot the levers twist a little when they are moved. This is an annoyance but not a functional problem. Never the less, the unit is about 2 yrs old and they are looser than they used to be. A few months ago I removed the bottom plate to get a look at the lever pivots. I was hoping there might be a nut to tighten or a place to insert some shims but didn't see anything for either. Have any of you found a solution or do you just ignore the slop?

What extras should I bind in the F/A-18?
CBStu replied to CrashAlot's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I would look for an extra slew controller. I use the little nub on the Warthog throttle for slewing the radar screen and it works fine. I have another slew control on my stick which I use for most all other slewing. One thing I would caution you is your thought that you set display brightness once and done. I change the HUD brightness a lot to account for time of day overall light level changes and also to dim it down on carrier approaches so I can see the carrier through the ICLS cross. I also change the DDIs some due to them getting almost blanked out by sun shining on them from coming in from over my shoulder vs them being in a shadow. I would set a pair of switches for the 3 position FLIR switch and the FLIR Arm (I forget it's official name) switch. The arm switch should be super easily visible so you are reminded to turn the dang thing again. That's all I can think of for now but would ask you to post some pics of your setup when you get it worked out. -
Thanks guys. A funny aside. The very next thread I clicked on (What is S mode?) has a pic where I can just see the AOA knob.
-
Flying at night I dim the MFDs, the HUD, the backround illumination, etc. But the donut is full bright and really annoying. The engine and fuel level panel is similar. Although there is an adjustment knob for it, the knob does little to nothing.

Hulk I will keep that 8NM in mind. That is something I have not thought about. ShaunX I like that technique. When I don't get things done in time I usually fly straight till about 8 NM beyond the target and then do a 180. During the 180 I get about 10NM away. The 8NM and the 180 take quite a while to do so, if nothing else, your offset approach and 90deg turn will be a lot quicker. I agree locking onto movers is a real crapshoot. Getting the timing right is hard to do as the delay from scs push to the type of track changing is a bit of a guess.
-
I am flying a campaign that uses this combination frequently and it is driving me crazy. I find I need to be at least 10 miles away to have time to find the target and get the ATFLIR aimed and locked. And then move the little diamond to the MavF screen and uncage the Mav seeker and finally fire it. Sometimes it just won't fire and I fly over the target doing nothing. One part of this that I notice is the diamond is a light color and if the Mav screen is similar color I can't see if the diamond actually moved. Is there a way to change color of one or the other? I have a self created mission that I use to practice several types of bombs and missiles. Of course 8 Mavs worked just fine there yesterday. Looking for pointers so I don't have to cheat and use active pause so often. Is there a preferred altitude for this? A preferred air speed? Any other pointers?

I follow the track in the SA page for WP4 260ish degrees. Another question. If I didn't get all the bandits why do I get told to go to WP4? Is that radio message set for X minutes after Y occurs. Just seems somewhat unfair to tell me I screwed up when it is way too late to do anything about it. And, as already stated, I didn't land at Khasab because I hadn't been given instruction to do so, so I am not sure how that is a failure. I will try to email the track to you.
-
Same as before. I realize just now that I forgot to turn the D/L on. If that itself causes a failure then I messed up. But I get very close to Khasab following the tower's instructions and bam 'I Failed' pops up. Says I didn't kill all the bandits and I didn't land. Well no kidding, I didn't land since I wasn't yet told to, although wingman was. Not sure on the bandits. My EW page didn't show any remaining Migs but the resolution of the labels is so poor, with many overlapping, that I could have missed them. I am pretty sure I saw two splashes though. My track file is 28,150kb so I can't attach it.
-
Badger633 I will fly it again to double check if I made a mistake which is probable. The '420?' just indicated that, as I was typing, I wasn't sure if the wingman's # was 420. I 'think' the wingman was 410 in earlier missions. Anyway, I am having a blast flying this campaign and learning new things. You mention using 'SA page and data link' reminds me that I need to study up on data link. I don't remember actually knowing where he was but I did hear the radio calls telling him to head to Khasab and what runway to land on.

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium layout
CBStu replied to Juicebag85's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Mine is a little different from yours. Prior to the NXT, they offered a way to attach the Kosmosima grip to the original Gladiator II base which is what I now have. Hopefully it may be helpful.
