  1. Yeah, I was talking about 1v1 gun BFM. what you can always do that the hornet can't easily do is not get your speed low, fire at it with missiles and run with M1.5 (even with bags on) But I am not sure if that's what the F-16 was/is known for .. for running away.
  2. I can only speak for the Dogfights that I was a part of, and that hornet was extremely kind to me, as I said. No fancy maneuvers, more or less putting the lift vector on me and following me in a 2 Circle.
  3. As soon as you use radar either in your plane, or use a missile that uses radar. Or that you (want to) use EC©M or just fly straight through air without any jutter and motion whatsoever you know it's a game and not a sim. Some older era parts, especially the WWII parts might be closer to a sim, but I don't fly those, so no idea.
  4. Hey 000rick000, I am absolutely willing to admit that I am not a BFM expert. I was only one F-16 that day, and we had some with experience with a lot of BFM in that other sim. I have a cockpit video recording of my fights and a tacview and am up to learn something. I'll send you a PM about maybe having a look at them together. The matter of fact is that the hornet pilots were at the same skill level, some never having shown any BFM interest in before. And yet the overall picture was not as deciding as I had thought.

I find it incredibly sad that interviews like the one with Gero and this were done with and interviewer who is unprepared and wastes time on filling own gaps of knowledge that could have been researched with google beforehand or followed up on after the interview was over in the editing phase. Cap is an interviewer of a less than average quality. And I am sure that there are other youtubers, potentially even within GR that could do a much better job and honor the time given by those being interviewed better.

We had a training with 4 groups (each 1 hornet, 1 viper) this week for about an hour of good dogfighting. hornets had pylons on, vipers were clean. both planes had full internal fuel. fight ended at 2000lbs for vipers (at which point the hornets were at about 4500 lbs or so) the skill level was completely mixed, and even when the hornets went for HUD BFM and 2 circles, there was not a single time that the viper had anything on it. From the feeling would have also said that the engine is too weak at the moment (though I must say that I have most experience with block52 models). But hey, I'll try to collect the diagrams and see .. if you have anything you can share, I'd be happy about something to test against.

  10. So the A-10 gets a new Maverick amongst other things. And there are no senior enough coders left to give the Viper even one Maverick? I find that hard to communicate believably. But open for ideas. In any case: I'm glad for the A-10 guys and girls.
  11. Don't dogfight in the Viper. I mean it is surely modelled right in DCS and that has shown the world that it's good at shooting missiles high and from afar. But dogfighting isn't one of its strengths!

  14. Is it an option to bait them towards more of your own assets? sams? friendly? possibly falling into their flank? If that is not an option: Where do they turn when you turn away from them and put them on your radar gimbal limit? Have they seen you and turn in on you? Make it count, be aggressive Are they both flat out hot on you? If you can: Extend your missiles range by gaining speed and altitude, TWS launch on both to force them into defensive reaction Are they scissoring you? Try flanking so that you force one of them in trail and can deal with a bit more timewise separated. (they might simply go for a grinder and push on you if you're out cold. Are you faster than they are? How long are your legs?) Are they ignoring you? But you don't want to ignore them? Don't just go hot on them, come in from behind their 3/9 line and take out the trailing guy and make it a 1v1 fast. Deal with the remaining guy in a manner of your choice.

I would just like to tell you then, that since *NO* modern jet - aside of the M2000 - was "launched" by your definition then, we should state - by your definition - that this is a sim for the Mirage 2000, or vietnam-era or WWII era only You will see that buying EA isn't a choice in this game, but a must to even participate in anything newer than the era of F-5s.   16. We had a situation yesterday where a M2000 (AI) fired a S530D on a friendly F-16C. The M2000 was pressed defensively and had turned past 100° away from the friendly target, yet the S530D was still guiding and consequently about 5 seconds later hit the maneuvering friendly plane. Track file was 2h long and is sadly not working.
  17. Plane: F-16C Weapon: AIM120-C Video: Shooting cue jumps (at second 23/24 in the video) from wrong to right position only as WPN RELEASE was pressed. 2h mission, Trackfile is not working :-(
  18. Had the following situation today: 4 enemies at 30-40nm, flight lead close by. Went to TWS with 40nm set up and pressed right and cycled. First it went for my flight lead and bam .. auto scaled to 5nm and even when pressing TMS right to get the other guys, it would stay at 5nm.
  19. I cannot understand how a maximum force input on a real F-16 stick and a full deflection on an axis of a directX devices aren't interpreted the same in the game. Also: Is there any hardware product rated by ED that will work properly with this? Can't be a warthog by what NineLine said in the quote. What do I need to buy to get top performance out of my virtual airplane? (and how absurd is it that I have to ask that question?)
  20. As far as I understand it ED used NASA public FLCS code to build the FLCS. And the NASA version was obviously way tamer than what the military used.

  22. Maverick and HARM are both intelligent weapons that interface deeply with your airplanes systems, handing off target data, controlling the sensor, etc. That is the same in reallife. A hydra (or APKWS for that matter) however has no electrical or data connection to your airplane. Only the ignition signal is transfered to the missile to let it spread freedom. As was already said, a hydra has a dialed in Lasercode it will follow (the one we set in the kneeboard). And then it will go for any designated point with that code within seeker limitations painted by whatever source. That is very different from HARM and Maverick. A similar issue exists with laser guided bombs. They require no fancy datalink. They just drop and aim for the point. Your plane should know about the fact that they are GBUs for ballistics / trim / autolase reasons, but it's not a must. A F-5 in DCS can drop GBUs even though it can't paint the target or even spottrack the target. The same logic doesn't go for GPS/INS bombs though, as they require a handoff of data from the plane. (target coordinates, but also stuff like GPS keys, etc, yada yada.)
  23. What you need to make the APKWS II work: A missile launch system for Hydra rockets -> Gotcha Something that can paint a lasercode on a target -> Gotcha Done. To the SMS it looks like a normal hydra. And the TPOD doesn't care for what weapon it paints, as NATO laser pulse codes are standardised.

  25. they have short and long depress functionality. Functions are all not implemented yet and range from enabling/ disabling the datalink to sending out targets via datalink.
